Some changes

So I know there’s not really many people following this blog, but still making note of this. Since didn’t do much with this and been awhile, going to use this for Monster Hunter stuff (most likely) also. I may still use this for Dragon age stuff, especially if I pick it back up, but mainly going to be a MH dump. I made Inquisitor Allison (Nickname “Serault”), so why not integrate it to here.

So many posts about Alistair and Cullen as bb Templars together.

And yet.

None of them about them being bitter rivals. 

Alistair hating Cullen for giving up the idyllic childhood that he always wanted, in favor of a career path which he hates!  Simmering in resentment of this over-serious snot who never gets in trouble with the Sisters and is way too good at everything!

Cullen hating Alistair for looking down on his decision to join the Templars, when he had to work hard to be accepted as a mere farmer’s son! Simmering in annoyance of the jumped-up royal clown who feels entitled to disrupt everyone’s studies with his screaming and tantrums and bad jokes!

They beat the shit out of each other at the sparring grounds on a regular basis.

Years later diplomatic meetings involving the General of Skyhold and the King of Ferelden dissolve into this weird passive-aggressive sniping about petty bullshit and Josie is like, what the fuck.  Leliana gets popcorn.

Vallaslin Ceremonies

How I figure they work.

The rite of adulthood taken by all Dalish, usually between the ages of 15 - 20, though younger or older cases have been known, especially in the case of city elves who have joined the clan.

Requirements for the ceremony are as follows: 1) the elf must have at least begun going through puberty. 2) They must have passed their apprenticeship, thus gaining their teacher’s blessing and proving they can provide for their clan. 3) They must have the approval of the clan elders. 

The policy on city elves taking the vallaslin differs from clan to clan. Some clans will accept them living amongst them but refuse to allow them the ceremony as they are not truly Dalish in the clan’s eyes and the significance would be considered lost on them. Some (likely few) clans may not consider a vallaslin necessary to accept a city elf as one of their own (i.e. a true member of the Dalish), accepting that odd as they are, they are sill one of the Elvhen. Others will view it as the final step of a city elf joining their clan as one of the Dalish and their family (though some may expect the city elf to completely renounce any part of the human culture or religion they were part of beforehand).

Until they have received their vallaslin Dalish elves are not permitted to bond, visit human settlements (in the case of clans who deal with outsiders), make decisions regarding the running of the clan or attend informal clan gatherings.

it’s a ceremony celebrating one of the family coming of age, the gods and the Dalish people and all that they are. The ceremony technically lasts two days. As the ritual involves permanent tattooing and ends immediately at the slightest show of pain, young elves often experiment with tattooing beforehand (it’d be rather embarrassing walking around with a half tattooed face, after all). As it is also the end of childhood, and the first step of embracing the duties and trials of adulthood the ceremony is not undertaken lightly, the ceremony will only be approved if the elders are completely certain that the elf in question is ready. The elf undergoing the rite will be asked three times over the course of the ceremony if they wish to stop the proceedings. It is not considered a source of shame or weakness to fail the ceremony, or turn it down.

While the ceremony honours all of the Creators, it particularly calls upon the parental deities Mythal and Elgar'nan, as the ceremony deals with “children” coming of age.
