We are so excited to announce that round 1 of beta testing is officially live. It's taken months of hard work - from all-night developing to all-day drawing and more - to get to this point. Halcyon is a massive TTRPG being developed by Chasm Games Co (that's us!), which is made up of a small team of indie writers, devs, and artists. The game takes place in the far future where humanity has taken to the stars and brought our hubris with us. A massive war has just ended and the galaxy sits in tentative peace with trouble still clear on the horizon.

You play a pilot of a huge combat frame fitted with unique weapons that connects directly to your brain. Not only will you experience thrilling mech-on-mech combat, but your pilot will be experiencing the side effects of having said war machine attached to their literal brainstem.

Mechs Are Dangerous In More Than One Way...

Hello, Mr. Knight,

I have reached out to your HR and Research divisions several times with concerns about Bleed, and have received half-hearted assurances with no data to back them up that this technology has just the same side effects as other mechs.

Just the same? I thought your psychomatic tech was "cutting edge." I thought your claims that this was tested were backed by actual testing, but I have found none of that in my own searching and received none by the branches of your company that should have access to that data.

I accepted this grant with the promise that my athletes would be safe. I've had four of them report severe separation anxiety when apart from their mech, and one just lost his girlfriend of three years because he's starting to treat his mech with more care and attention than her. These may sound like small examples to you, but they are a sampling of how my students' lives are beginning to be adversely affected by this technology that I assured them, based on your promises, would have minimal Bleed.

I am going to contact our professors of psychology and neurotechnology about this matter. If you are willing to investigate, I can share our findings with you. If you have any data to contribute, that would save our school a lot of time and effort. I hope to hear from you soon.

Mechs Aren't Only Used For Fighting.

The Political Landscape is Shifting.

- This is a galactic broadcast from Albert Nazari and the Republic of Sworn Planets -

Our galaxy has endured nearly a decade of war and there is more to come before we’ll have peace. Our enemies are the jealous remnants of Kell’s brutal regime and desperate terrorists who hate peace. I believe cooperation between different planets is worth fighting for and that we are responsible for making the galaxy a place where our children can live without a tyrant’s boot on their necks. 

This is a fight we share whether you’re from the frontier or the core, if you’re rich or poor, if you’ve lived in peace while your neighbor lost everything to the war, or not.

You can help finish this fight no matter who you are. We need engineers, digital-operators, pilots, soldiers to defend our people and to fly our cruisers; any skill can be sworn to this cause and at the end of this—remembered or forgotten—you will have stood against oppression. 

All the ways you can help this young Republic and its mission are dangerous, but I must now ask some of you to consider the most dangerous task of all. I ask those few with uncommon strength of will to pilot mech-frames. Your enemy will be Bishop and they will learn to fear your names.

Guns Aren't the Only Weapons...

REACTOR TEMPERATURE CRITICAL.

Slip behind a boulder and vent heat. Hissing and a tingle in my shoulders – no, the frame’s – as heat sinks touch freezing air. Indicator bars drop back into safe zones. Spin back out and find the thing that hit me – spindly legs and weapon barrels poking over a ridge. At least two targets. Flicker my eyes on a display and range calculations appear in my head. 

Shift a finger I can’t feel to open comms. “Aurora, mortar fire on your two. Distance five-five-three, incendiary shells.”

“Copy, Thresher.” 

Three thumps from my left, three fireballs blooming on the ridge. Three more reactors on sensors, all at the edge of mortar range. Two of them moving closer. 

“Eclipse, Claymore, push for the ridge. Aurora, keep their heads down. 

“Copy, Thresher.” 

Cracking of rocks from my right. Eclipse’s frame lumbering forward with Claymore’s leaping ahead. Impulses from my brain go straight to my frame and I’m moving too. The moving targets are in visual now – blacked-out plating and weapons. No database match, and I can’t find the third. Mortar shells are landing but they’re moving too fast. Bullets splattering off shields and splitting stone. Screaming of missile locks fighting digital blockades.

Aurora’s voice. “Thresher, I think I found -” 

Static. Nothing. 

Flip to rear lenses. Aurora’s frame collapsing with a two-meter silver spike in its chest – sensors tag it as D-38. No sound at all. 

“Find cover!” 

I’m in the open. Air shimmers atop the ridge, and I see the third target. Black plating and a white thing on its shoulder. Dead, bone-white with a blue light like an eye at the end. The light’s brighter now, and it blinks. 

Flip to my real eyes. A silver rod through my stomach. I can’t remember when it got there.
