How to eat out vegan with non-vegans
I feel like half of the losing weight that comes from being vegan is from going out with friends and only being able to order a salad with an oil based dressing. Hopefully, these tips can help you to get out of that boring meal option.
1. Customize your order.
I understand how scary it is to order at a restaurant, and feel stupid asking if something can be made vegan. There's a lot of stigma around being vegan and, if you are like me and feel like everyone is judging you constantly, some people may roll their eyes at a request like that. There are ways around asking something to be vegan; you could ask for the dish without the cheese, or ask if there is dairy or meat in one of the meals without explicitly saying "vegan". That being said don't be ashamed of being vegan.
2. Don't be embarrassed of being vegan
Let the people you are eating out with know you are vegan. When you are picking restaurants, ask that your group be mindful of choosing a place that has at least one thing you can eat- possibly after customizing. For instance, don't go to a burger place that you know doesn't have a veggie burger. But also letting your server know your dietary restrictions could prompt a suggestion or two from them.
3. Be aware of the V labels on a menu
The meaning sometimes changes. You want to make sure that something is labeled as vegan before you order it. On the counter side, if it’s labeled as vegetarian you now know you can customize it easier than some of the other meals.
4. Remember that sides are always an option
For example, if they won’t let you customize your salad, but they have a side salad, that side salad won’t come with any cheese, so you can order a side salad instead. Or if you feel like you won’t be full you can bulk up your meal with a side of avocado (or- let’s be real- fries).
5. Always have snacks in your bag.
Unless you were really excited about going to a restaurant- which, in that case, would probably mean there was vegan food- then going out is really about being social. So, as a last resort, you can eat before you go out and/or take snacks in your bag. Personally, I always have snacks in my bag, because I like to eat when I'm hungry and not during the set times made for eating.

This is my salad from when I went out with my family. I was really craving some greens, or I probably would have ordered something that wasn’t a salad. However, I used my tips to get this salad. Firstly, my family knows I am vegan so we found a restaurant where I could customize my order. Secondly, although the restaurant did not use V labels, I found the salad with “add chicken +$2.00″ on it, which clued me in to there being no meat on the salad. I then CUSTOMIZED my order by asking for no parmesan, and I added a SIDE of avocado.  I also brought an energy bar and 2 servings of almonds for if I got hungry while we were walking around afterward. However, I didn’t get hungry after because of the avocado I added to my dish.

DIY Coffee Scrub
Simple, vegan, and cheap. This three ingredient coffee scrub is one of my favorite facial scrubs to make at home.
Tumblr media
All you need are:
1/2 cup of used coffee grounds
1/2 cup of melted coconut oil
1/2 cup of any kind of sugar
Instructions:
Pour all of the ingredients into a container
Tumblr media
Then mix them all together until everything is mixed completely and your scrub it a black silky consistency
Cover your container and put with the rest of your showering or face washing items.
Tumblr media
How to use:
Get your face wet
Re-mix/shake up you scrub
Use on your face (and really anywhere else) and let sit as long as you feel necessary
Wash off
Feel your luscious face
Helpful hints:
Let the used coffee grounds dry before mixing the ingredients
Combine the sugar and coffee first then slowly stir in the coconut oil
You can refrigerate you scrub to make it thicker, but it may separate and be harder to mix. That being said, you can always let it sit for a couple minutes, and you will be able to mix it up again, and it will still be thicker.

Actually, in literary archetypes, most monsters are representative of the dark side of society or, in other words, sin. Most works are about the struggle to fight the pull of the dark side and how we succumb to it. So fucking vampires is a metaphor for falling out of grace.
I really am curious as to when we, as a culture, decided we weren’t afraid of werwolves, vampires, dragons, demons and other monsters and decided we would instead like to fuck them?

I feel this so much as someone who was abused as a kid and never really got to find out who I am without that traumatic experience in my past. And it’s hard to know if I’ve even been effective by this but it hurts so bad to know that I will never not be the person who was scared of their home.
i think sometimes trauma survivors fall into this place where it’s very hard to believe that anything that happened to you was that bad. and the only proof you have that it was that bad is that you’re suffering. and so healing can be really scary and difficult because it means giving up the only tangible evidence you have that you were traumatized in the first place
