Thunderstorms [Jaeyoon]

in which you just really don’t like storms

You’d never liked the rain.

From the moment you were a baby and sat through your first storm, you had hated them. Your own mother even told you that you had cried in her arms on several occasions, even during a light rain. Of course, as you grew up, this wasn’t the case. Now you just sat through rain comfortably, well, unless it was heavy.

And boy, was this rain heavy.

The news that morning had stated that the entire day was supposed to be bright and full of clear skies with the night being equally as calm and clear. But if that was the case then why were you suddenly sitting through one of the worst storms you had ever been through?

You tried to hide your shaking as your boyfriend, Jaeyoon, was asleep beside you and you didn’t want to wake him up because of something as silly as this. Especially not after he had just finished a day full of training and looked so peaceful when he was asleep.

You forced yourself to turn around so that you weren’t facing him as another bolt of lightening hit the ground outside followed by a deep rumble and crackling sound. Biting your bottom lip, you held in your whimper of fear and pulled the sheets higher up on your body. If Jaeyoon woke up, you would just tell him that you were cold.

Bolt after bolt hit the ground and you found yourself shutting your eyes as much as you possibly could, praying that the rain would take the hint and leave. But it didn’t, and you were stuck shaking in your own bed with tears forming in your eyes.

Just as you let a sniffle escape your mouth, you felt an arm wrap itself around your waist and pull you into a warm chest.

“Babe,” Jaeyoon’s tired voice spoke into your hair. You felt him move it out of his way and onto your shoulder and press a kiss to the skin on your neck. He pulled you closer to his chest and hummed. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, don’t worry,” you swallowed and nodded your head, ignoring your voice crack and hoping he did as well.

“You’re scared right? Of the rain? Don’t be,” he smiled against your neck and pressed another kiss to it. “I’m here to protect you. Tough guy Jaeyoon. I’ll punch the thunder for you.” You let out a puff of air and he tickled your waist, turning you around to face him. Even in the darkness, his smile seemed to be the brightest thing you had ever laid your eyes on. Jaeyoon gently pet your hair and twirled a lock around his finger.

“Sorry I’m so lame,” you told him. Jaeyoon tsked and squished your face, kissing you quickly.

“I don’t mind,” Jaeyoon smiled at you and yawned. He opened his arms dramatically and let you settle yourself into his chest. You let your eyes flutter shut as his scent engulfed you. “Let’s sleep now, please. I’m here to protect you, always.”

“I love you,” you whispered as you began to drift off.

“I love you the most,” the rain gently faded into the background as you focused on his breathing and his hands around you. 

You had never felt more at peace.
