Paul The Apostle (Redux)
Update of an old illustration I did of Paul from 2022
love never fails. but where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
Saint Paul, First Corinthians 13:8

POV: It's your first day working at The Holmwood Foundation and this video starts playing.
As a massive thank you for all the love you've given us for Holmwood so far, please find attached BONUS AUDIO. We'll be releasing these on our Patreon, but we felt that this one in particular was a good one to share for all.
The transcript of the audio is below under the cut:
Music by SigmaBayArt Narrated by Andrew Biss
Dear Employee, Welcome to The Holmwood Foundation. After a lengthy vetting process, and what I am sure has felt like an excessive number of contracts, I am honoured to have you join our cause. Every employee of this Foundation has been recommended or scouted by our most trusted members, chosen for your discretion and expertise in your field - whether this is as a historian, a security officer, or as a scientist. We welcome you. There will be much to learn in the coming weeks, and much I am sure you are eager to ask, but I wish to take a minute to address the heart of The Holmwood Foundation—our core value. Ever since Dame Harker and Lord Godalming created us, we have pursued a singular purpose: to prevent the reanimation of Count Dracula, and to study the lasting effects of vampirism on the human body. In your time here, everything you do will support this cause. You will find your employee handbook and the rest of your onboarding plan in your welcome packet. I encourage you to contact your new team members and manager with any questions you may have. As I am sure you are aware, any attempts to spread even the most tentative company information beyond the walls of your central facility, or indeed beyond your personal team, will be met with the highest punitive measure this company can afford. I ask you to contemplate why you may not have heard of your department prior to employment, to remember that we have been active for a long, long time, and to remind yourself that you are but a small, easily-expensed cog in a much larger, well-funded machine.
Best wishes, and best of luck, Jonathan Harker, CEO

i've had a long time to think about biopunk
Corporations owning patents to genetically modified organisms could be a problem addressed in a biopunk story, but the foundations of the Biopunk dystopia begin far before: a world where the symbiotic relationships between humans and other organisms are broken. A world where gardening is illegal, where soils and wild plants are poisoned or polluted so no one can eat from them, where only the rich have access to nature.
One faction is trying to "restore" wilderness, but to them this means excluding humans, removing people from their homes.
Rich people claim to have developed or engineered animals that replace the ones that supposedly went extinct, but actually the animals were stolen from their habitats where people were already restoring them
Genetic engineering for the sake of vanity, life extension technologies and other forms of enhancement are available to the rich, while the poor don't have healthcare...
false ideas of genetic superiority, where the outcomes of people are blamed on their genes and not on systemic factors. The son or daughter of a rich person is successful, it must be because of the genes they selected for intelligence.
poor people end up in prison more often? it must be because their genes predispose them to commit crime...
Genetic tests determine you are only fit for manual labor, so schools won't give you scholarships for education
poor people having to subsist on the most basic diet because they cant afford the royalties for propagating most fruit and vegetables
organized crime but it's gardening. plant mafia
massive crime syndicate that gives people health care and medicines they need
people selling the rights to their body after death so The Corporation can reanimate their corpse with something similar to cordyceps fungus to use them as laborer that doesn't have to be paid
plantarchists busting into the highly secure corporate greenhouses and seed vaults and releasing all the patented species into the wild
illegal genetic engineering labs in an abandoned warehouse where clever farmers, enraged at the paid subscription to horses, are making goats large enough to ride

power chords were invented by indigenous (shawnee) musician link wray, who also made history when his song "rumble" became the first and only instrumental single banned from the radio in the us (way back in 1958!!!!!) "rumble" would go on to appear on shows like the sopranos and spongebob squarepants and films like pulp fiction

JAWS 大白鯊
Roy Scheider got slapped 17 times to get this shot. Bruce has gotten a lot of the glory over the years, so I wanted, for a change, to celebrate the incredible characters and their small town New England drama that make this movie what it is.
It’s the 50th Anniversary of JAWS. In 1975 JAWS was the highest grossing movie of all time, and was released overseas in dozens of countries. But you won’t typically find Taiwan on that list, because in 1975 Taiwan was no longer recognized internationally.
But it was released in theaters there in 1975, known in Taiwan as 大白鯊. My Mom personally watched it during its release, and even remembers billboards of it. But because of the complicated history of Taiwan, it’s not well documented.
I wanted to fix that and give Taiwan the flowers it deserves, so I made a retro Taiwanese JAWS poster. All text is in Traditional Chinese, which is distinct to Taiwan, HK, and Macau. My mom is always asking, ‘How come you make all these posters in Japanese? Can’t you do a Chinese one for once?’ So this one is for my Mom.
I want to give a big shout out to Rob Jones for art directing this. Thank you to my Mom for helping me translate and format everything Taiwan-accurate. And of course, thanks to CODA for having me in their official JAWS 50th Anniversary art show.
The exhibit opens at Art Alliance of Monmouth County in Red Bank, NJ with a reception on June 28 and will be on view through July 13.
