Reasons Why Fans of Color Leave/Don’t Interact with Fandom

Casual racism that is brushed off as “an innocent mistake” or “they didn’t mean it” and then everyone pretending like it didn’t happen and moving on with their day (repeat)

Speaking over fans of color about issues that pertain to them specifically

When fans of color speak out about something that makes them uncomfortable or why that don’t interact with it (usually because of the racial/ethnic bias) they are accused of being anti’s or pro-censorship

Characters of color being used as scapegoats/bashed/plot devices 

Characters of color never getting happy endings/real development

Backlash against characters of color if they do anything other than be a white character’s side kick/best friend

Actors of characters of color being harassed for something their character did or didn’t do

White characters/actors getting all the attention/credit despite the fact that they are a side character to a POC or on the same level as the POC

Fanfic authors patting themselves on the back for writing a “realistic” character of color and it’s just a bunch of stereotypes

Being told that they should be happy they were even included when they call out the above people

White fans crying about persecution/exclusion because their fav character/trope/kink/ship isn’t loved by all 

Fan artists re-imaging characters of color as white/lightening skin tone

Everyone rushing to a white fans defense after a well deserved call out while the fan of color receives hate

Never having a safe fandom space and always having to be on guard with new people/fandoms/chats etc because they’ve been burned before

i’m left heartbroken and disgusted by the events that take place in this world. it leaves me questioning the existence of beings. what hurts me more is seeing how quiet this community is on the issue. you have platforms with a 1,000+ followers and willingly choose to stay silent.

please educate yourselves and take a look at what’s happening in palestine. i have friends with families who are fighting for their lives right now. these people have been fighting oppression for decades. use your privilege for something. use your platform for something. please i’m begging you. just because it isn’t directly affecting you doesn’t give you the excuse of staying silent.

a reminder that if you choose to stay silent in the face of oppression, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.

A/N: hey besties, i forgot to post this on here- but anyway have this kinda short fic. im buttering y’all up for a ✨surprise✨ 👀 hope you enjoy. PS. posting on tumblr mobile (derogatory) so sorry there’s no read more link-

“Babe, hurry up! It’s about to start!” you called out from you and Hange’s shared living room, snickering slightly when you see Hange pacing over to where you were with a bowl of popcorn in hand.

“Sorry, sorry! I’m here now” they said, placing the bowl on the coffee table before taking their place beside you on the couch as you went through movie selections.

“What do you wanna watch?” you turned to them and they shrugged their arms and the two of you decided to just play a random movie that you both thought was interesting enough.

Minutes into the movie, the two of you were both invested in the scene that was currently playing out. The comfortable silence between you two filling the air as you continued watching with full attention until you felt movement beside you, you turned to where Hange sat beside you and noticed them involuntarily snuggling closer to you, their attention still focused on the movie which was something that made you smile as you leaned into them as well.

Sometimes you would hear Hange giving out commentary on certain scenes, certain people, and even certain scenes that would probably happen and much to their accurate precision, their guesses were right and you questioned if this was really their first time watching the movie. Though you thought it was quite fitting since they were a scientist after all.

You found you liked when Hange would give their input on what they’d do or how they think the movie would end, and you would smile lightly whenever you’d hear Hange screaming at the character’s stupidity or screaming to tell them what to do.

“No! Don’t trust him, he’s the suspect! Turn away before you- OH MY GOD. WHY DID-? Great. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, wait till he comes and kills you then. Stupid..” Hange exclaimed and you laughed but ultimately thought it was cute of them to do something like that. Somehow the act of doing so just seemed like such a Hange thing to do, and you loved them for it.

You began to feel tired as you yawned before resting your head on their shoulder, trying to keep yourself awake and focus on the movie, but Hange picked up on it and smiled softly.

“Is my Y/N getting sleepy already? We can continue watching tomorrow” they spoke softly before pausing the movie, as they placed their arm around your shoulders bringing you closer to lean into them more.

“No, no,” you yawned, “I..I can still watch more, it’s alright” you sighed to which Hange smiled and grabbed the remote to hit the play button as you both continued watching.

Then at some point you found your eyes droopy and now half-lidded, eventually succumbing to slumber’s grasp and snored lightly.

Hange noticed and smiled as they stopped the movie and turned the TV off, lightly nudging your shoulder while softly calling out your name in an attempt to wake you up, to which you didn’t respond and shifted your position on the couch.

“You’re so cute, what am I going to do with you now?” Hange spoke before cautiously getting up so as to not wake you up from your rest as they looked around for a spare blanket but found none. “Hm, guess I’m gonna have to carry you to bed then” they said softly, moving back to where you were sleeping and carried you back to your shared room bridal style.

“There you go” they whispered to themself and made sure you were comfortable in your position and took the blanket which sat at the edge of the bed and pulled it to cover you gently.

Hange moved over to your side of the bed and smiled lightly before leaning in to give you a kiss on your forehead, your nose, and a quick kiss on your lips before dressing down and laying in bed next to you.

Turning over to face you they smiled once more and thought about how you always make them so happy, how you seem to effortlessly make their day, and how much you make them smile and just want to hug and kiss you until the sun falls down and comes up again.

“How did I end up with someone as smart and beautiful and kind as you?” Hange sighed before fixing their position in bed as they wrapped their arms around your waist and let sleep take over their system as you two fell asleep without a care in the world.
