"y/n? y/n? earth to y/n?"
wonyoung's voice cut through the haze of y/n's thoughts, jolting them back to reality. they blinked a few times, their gaze refocusing as they met wonyoung's amused eyes. the campus cafe buzzed around them, students chatting, forks clinking against plates, and the aroma of brewed coffee filling the air.
"oh, sorry," y/n stammered, feeling a flush rise to their cheeks. "i guess i zoned out for a moment."
wonyoung grinned, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "you're always getting lost in your thoughts, aren't you?"
y/n nodded, offering a sheepish smile. "guilty as charged. you have that effect on me, you know?"
wonyoung's laughter was like music, filling the air around them. "well, i'm flattered," she said, her smile turning into a warm, genuine one. "so, what were you thinking about?"
with a soft chuckle, y/n leaned in slightly, their tone conspiratorial. "alright, alright. i was pondering the mysteries of the universe. you know, the usual."
wonyoung's laughter tinkled through the air again, and y/n found themselves mesmerized by the genuine warmth in her expression. "well, as long as you're not plotting world domination in there," she teased.
"world domination is so last century," y/n quipped, finally fully engaged in the conversation. "i'm thinking more along the lines of solving the eternal debate: cats or dogs?"
wonyoung's laughter died down, and she regarded y/n with a soft smile. "you're something else, you know that?"
as they continued bantering, y/n's heart raced. it was still hard to believe they were actually dating someone like wonyoung. the laughter, the teasing—it all felt so surreal.
just as y/n was about to take another bite of their sandwich, they suddenly remembered the hidden treasure in their bag. their eyes widened, and they glanced at wonyoung with an almost comical mix of excitement and apprehension.
"wonyoung," y/n began, their voice a tad nervous, "i... i have something for you."
wonyoung's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "oh? what's the occasion?"
wonyoung's eyes widened with surprise as she accepted the gift. "y/n, what's this?"
y/n's cheeks turned a shade of pink that rivaled a sunset. "i... i wanted to get you something special." they cleared their throat, trying to sound casual but failing miserably. "i may have, um, spent this month's allowance on it."
wonyoung carefully unwrapped the gift, revealing an exquisite piece of jewelry, something that would catch anyone's eye. she gasped softly, her fingers tracing the intricate design. "y/n, this is... this is stunning."
y/n grinned, their heart doing somersaults. "i'm glad you like it."
wonyoung's gaze shifted between y/n and the box, a soft smile tugging at her lips. "well, aren't you full of surprises today?"
y/n's cheeks flushed a deeper shade of pink. "i just... i saw this and thought of you. i know it's a bit extravagant, but i really wanted to get it for you."
wonyoung's laughter tinkled like wind chimes. reaching across the table, she brushed her fingers against y/n's hand, her eyes twinkling with affection. "... i must admit, spending a month's worth of allowance on a gift isn't exactly the wisest financial move, but i truly appreciate this."
y/n couldn't resist the gleam in wonyoung's eyes. with a mischievous grin, they leaned in closer, their voice lowering to a conspiratorial whisper. "you know, wonyoung, they say that people who receive extravagant gifts are obligated to give the giver a kiss."
wonyoung raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk tugging at her lips. "is that so? and who are these 'they' you speak of?"
y/n shrugged, their smile growing wider. "oh, you know, the wise sages of campus lore. they're quite adamant about it."
wonyoung chuckled softly, her gaze locked onto y/n's. "well, who am i to go against the wisdom of campus lore?" as she spoke, she carefully placed the necklace back in its box, sliding it away slightly.
y/n's cheeks were tinted with a rosy hue as they looked away, and wonyoung wore a smile that could outshine the sun. "well," wonyoung said, her voice a playful purr, "i suppose it's only fair that i follow tradition."
before y/n could react, wonyoung's lips pressed against theirs in a gentle, sweet kiss. it was as if time stood still, the world around them fading into a distant background as they savored the moment.
when they finally broke apart, y/n was left breathless and dizzy, their heart pounding in their chest. "wow," was all they managed to say, their voice a soft whisper.
wonyoung giggled, her eyes twinkling with affection. "you're such a dork, y/n."
y/n grinned unabashedly. "well, yeah. but hey, who can resist when they're in the presence of someone as amazing as you?"
wonyoung rolled her eyes in mock exasperation, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush. "you really know how to lay on the charm, don't you?"
y/n leaned back in their chair, a mischievous glint in their eyes. "well, i believe it's my duty to keep the amazing people around me entertained."
wonyoung chuckled softly, her fingers tracing the rim of her coffee cup. "you certainly have a unique way of doing that."
"oh, you haven't seen the half of it," y/n replied with a grin, their fingers drumming playfully on the table. "i've been practicing my pickup lines, you know."
wonyoung raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "oh really? do share."
y/n feigned a thoughtful expression, rubbing their chin dramatically. "hmm, let's see... are you a campfire? because you're hot and i want s'more."
wonyoung burst into laughter, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "that's... something, alright." she leaned back slightly, still chuckling.
"i have plenty more where that came from," y/n teased, their smile growing wider. "but i'll save them for special occasions."
wonyoung shook her head with an affectionate smile, her laughter fading into a delighted grin. "you say the worst pickup lines, ever."
y/n's expression turned softer, their eyes locking onto wonyoung's. "only because you bring out the best—or worst—in me."
wonyoung's smile was warm, her gaze locked onto y/n's. "well, your worst lines are still pretty endearing." she leaned in a little closer.
y/n leaned in as well, a playful glint in their eyes. "oh, just wait until you hear my best ones." their lips curled into a mischievous smile.
wonyoung's laughter blended seamlessly with the café's ambiance, and she shook her head in mock disbelief. "i can't believe i'm dating someone who actually uses pickup lines."
y/n's tone turned mock-innocent. "what can i say? i'm just a person of many talents."
wonyoung's eyes twinkled mischievously. "and do these talents include making me smile?"
y/n nodded dramatically, their hand resting over their heart. "absolutely. making you smile is my top priority, followed closely by making terrible puns."
wonyoung's laughter filled the air, a delightful melody that never failed to make y/n's heart skip a beat. she leaned back in her chair, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "well, you've certainly succeeded in making me smile today."
y/n couldn't help but grin, their gaze locked onto wonyoung's. "that's all i ever want to do."
as they basked in the warmth of each other's presence, y/n noticed wonyoung eyeing the unwrapped necklace on the table. with a gentle smile, y/n picked it up and held it out to her. "would you like to try it on?"
wonyoung's eyes widened with surprise, her fingers hovering over the exquisite piece of jewelry. "you're really okay with me trying it on?"
y/n nodded, their voice soft. "of course, it's meant for you, after all."
wonyoung carefully took the necklace, her fingers tracing the delicate chain and the shimmering pendant. she turned her attention back to y/n, her expression a mix of gratitude and wonder. "i can't believe you spent a month's worth of allowance on this, y/n."
y/n reached out, their fingers brushing against wonyoung's cheek. "you're worth every penny, wonyoung. that necklace is too small compared to how much you mean to me."
wonyoung's eyes glistened with emotion, and she leaned in to press a soft kiss to y/n's lips. it was a sweet, tender kiss that spoke volumes, a silent affirmation of their love.
when they finally pulled away, y/n whispered, "i'd spend a lifetime's worth of allowance just to see you smile."
wonyoung's smile was radiant, her fingers gently threading through y/n's hair. "so cheesy of you, y/n."
with the necklace draped around her neck, wonyoung looked even more stunning, if that was even possible. she leaned in to whisper in y/n's ear, "you know, i think you've officially spoiled me."
y/n's heart swelled at wonyoung's words, their fingers gently brushing against wonyoung's cheek. "and you've spoiled me too, in the best possible way."
as they gazed into each other's eyes, the air around them seemed to crackle with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. y/n's heart raced, and they found themselves leaning in, their lips meeting wonyoung's in a soft, delicate kiss. it was a kiss filled with the unspoken emotions that had been building between them, a sweet exchange of feelings that left them both breathless.
when they pulled away, their eyes locked onto each other's, their expressions a mix of surprise and wonder. y/n's voice was soft as they whispered, "i couldn't resist any longer."
wonyoung's smile was a mixture of delight and affection. "i've been waiting for that."
y/n's fingers played with a strand of wonyoung's hair, a playful glint in their eyes. "well, i had to catch up to all those times you stole kisses from me."
wonyoung chuckled softly, her fingers tracing patterns on the table. "i couldn't help myself. you're just too irresistible."
y/n's grin grew wider. "i'm glad you think so."
the café bustled around them, students coming and going, the aroma of coffee filling the air. but in that little bubble they had created, it was just y/n and wonyoung, two souls intertwined in a love that was as real as it was captivating.
y/n's fingers absentmindedly traced the rim of their coffee cup, their gaze never leaving wonyoung's. "you know, i've never been one to believe in fate, but meeting you has made me question that."
wonyoung's smile held a touch of playfulness, her gaze locking onto y/n's with a glimmer of curiosity. "wait a minute, is that one of those pickup lines you've been practicing?"
y/n's eyes widened in mock surprise, their hand placed dramatically over their heart. "i am deeply offended that you'd accuse me of such a thing! my words are as sincere as my undying love for... coffee."
wonyoung laughed, the sound tinkling like a melody. "oh, really? coffee, huh? that's quite the declaration."
y/n's lips curved into a mischievous grin. "well, you know, it's a classic. coffee has always been there for me, unlike certain tall and charismatic individuals."
wonyoung's playful expression turned into a mock pout. "are you saying i'm not dependable?"
y/n's gaze softened, their fingers brushing gently against wonyoung's knuckles. "on the contrary, you're the most dependable thing in my life. and the most extraordinary."
wonyoung's pout transformed into a warm smile, her thumb brushing over y/n's hand. "you really have a way with words, don't you?"
y/n shrugged, their expression bashful. "i guess they just come naturally when i'm around you."
wonyoung took another sip of her coffee, her gaze focused on the table for a moment as if lost in thought. y/n, ever the observer, watched her with a soft smile, taking in the way her features seemed to light up in the warm glow of the café's lighting. finally, unable to contain their admiration, they spoke.
"you're so pretty," y/n said softly, their voice a gentle affirmation of the thoughts running through their mind.
wonyoung looked up, her eyes meeting y/n's, and her cheeks took on a faint rosy hue. "stop it, you're making me blush."
y/n chuckled, their heart swelling with affection. "i can't help it. i'm just stating the facts."
wonyoung's laughter filled the air once again, a sound that never failed to bring a smile to y/n's face. "well, i have to say, your compliments are almost as charming as your terrible pickup lines."
y/n feigned offense, placing a hand over their chest dramatically. "how dare you insult my impeccable taste in pickup lines? they're an art form!"
wonyoung laughed even harder, her fingers wiping away a tear of mirth from the corner of her eye. "oh, believe me, they're a form of something, alright."
y/n grinned, their heart dancing with joy at the sight of wonyoung's laughter. and in that moment, as wonyoung's laughter echoed through the café, something welled up inside y/n—a feeling they had been carrying for a while, a truth they couldn't contain any longer.
"i've got to admit something," y/n's voice wavered slightly, their gaze never leaving wonyoung's.
wonyoung's curiosity was piqued, her eyes attentive as she leaned in a bit closer. "oh? what is it?"
a moment of vulnerability hung in the air, and y/n took a deep breath before continuing. "i think about you... a lot. like, i'm completely and utterly infatuated."
wonyoung's expression softened, her fingers finding their way to y/n's hand. "you're not alone in that, you know."
a playful grin played on y/n's lips. "really? you're infatuated with yourself too?"
wonyoung's pout transformed into a warm smile, her thumb brushing over y/n's hand. "you really have a way with words, don't you?"
y/n shrugged, their expression bashful. "i guess they just come naturally when i'm around you."
wonyoung's fingers found their way to y/n's, their touch sending shivers down y/n's spine. "you have a way of making my heart race too, you know? and i don't mind it one bit."
y/n's breath caught in their throat, their heart pounding like a drum in their chest. with wonyoung's fingers interlaced with theirs, the connection felt electric, a current of emotion flowing between them.
the air around them seemed to shimmer with an unspoken understanding, a shared sentiment that transcended words. and in that moment, the weight of their feelings hung in the space between them.
wonyoung's eyes held a mixture of affection and vulnerability as she whispered, "y/n, there's something i want to tell you."
y/n's heart skipped a beat, their anticipation growing as they waited for wonyoung's next words. "what is it?"
wonyoung took a deep breath, her voice steady but filled with emotion.
"i love you, y/n."
the world seemed to stand still for a moment, and y/n's breath caught in their throat. did they hear her right? was this real? for a split second, doubt crept in, freezing y/n in place.
wonyoung's gaze held a hint of playfulness, her smile warm. "cat got your tongue?"
y/n's eyes widened, and they quickly shook their head, the words tumbling out in a rush. "no, no! i mean... i love you too! i really, really do!"
wonyoung's laughter was like a gentle breeze, her eyes dancing with mirth. "oh, how the tables have turned."
y/n's cheeks flushed, and they tried to regain their composure. "i didn't mean to... i mean, i did, but..."
wonyoung leaned in, her lips brushing against y/n's ear as she whispered, "it's okay, you know. i don't mind being the first one to say it."
y/n's heart swelled, their embarrassment melting away in the warmth of wonyoung's reassurance. "well, now i've said it too. and i mean it."
wonyoung leaned back, her expression soft and affectionate. "i know you do. and i'm so glad you do."
y/n couldn't help but smile, their heart full to the brim with affection for the girl sitting across from them. "you know, i never thought i'd be lucky enough to experience something like this."
wonyoung's fingers danced along the rim of her coffee cup, her gaze never leaving y/n's. "and what's that?"
"being utterly and completely in love with you," y/n confessed, their voice a gentle whisper.
wonyoung's smile was a reflection of the stars that had aligned to bring them together. "well, get used to it, because i have a feeling that's not going to change anytime soon."
the corner of y/n's lips quirked up mischievously. "is that a promise?"
wonyoung's laughter, like the tinkling of wind chimes, filled the air around them. "absolutely. i'm not going anywhere."
the world continued to move around them—the café's patrons came and went, the lunchtime rush in full swing—but none of that mattered. in this cozy corner they had carved out for themselves, it was just the two of them, lost in the cadence of their conversation and the unspoken promises that hung in the air.
"y/n?"
wonyoung's voice pulled y/n from their thoughts, their focus narrowing solely on the person who held their heart.
"yeah?"
wonyoung's smile was as bright as the midday sun. "i love you."
y/n's heart swelled, their voice a gentle echo of the emotion that had taken root within them. "i love you too."
wonyoung's laughter danced through the air, a delightful melody that wrapped around them like a warm embrace. "well, you didn't seem as nervous this time," she teased, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
y/n playfully nudged her shoulder. "hey now, cut me some slack. it's not every day that someone as amazing as you confesses their love to me."
wonyoung's laughter continued, a joyful chorus that painted the air with happiness. "point taken," she managed to say through her giggles.
"shut up," y/n muttered, though their lips curved into a fond smile.
wonyoung's laughter lingered in the air one last time, a joyful serenade that resonated with the happiness in y/n's heart. with a gentle nudge, she leaned in to place a sweet kiss on y/n's cheek. "you're adorable," she said with an affectionate grin.
y/n's cheeks flushed, their heart dancing with joy. "and you're insufferable," they replied, their tone playful.
wonyoung raised an eyebrow, a mischievous spark in her eyes. "insufferable, huh? is that why you can't seem to get enough of me?"
y/n rolled their eyes with a mock exasperated sigh, a smile playing on their lips. "you caught me," they admitted, raising their arms in surrender.
as they shared a laugh, y/n found themselves enveloped in a sense of contentment that was as comforting as a warm embrace. in wonyoung's presence, everything felt right, and every worry seemed to melt away.

y/n trudged wearily through the front door of their cozy apartment, the weight of the day's work clinging to every step. the apartment was dimly lit, the soft glow of lamps casting warm, inviting pockets of light. the scent of something delicious wafted through the air, a familiar comfort that made the exhaustion in y/n's bones ebb away just a bit.
"hey, you're back!" sana's voice, tinged with excitement, reached y/n's ears even before she came into view. y/n turned towards the living room, a tired smile forming on their lips as they saw sana standing there, her eyes bright and a grin that could light up the whole room.
sana's arms opened wide, and without hesitation, y/n found themselves enveloped in a warm, tight hug. the embrace felt like a soothing balm to y/n's weary soul, a reminder that they were home, truly home. y/n wrapped their arms around sana in return, burying their face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her familiar scent.
"missed you," sana murmured, her voice a gentle whisper that sent shivers down y/n's spine.
"missed you too," y/n mumbled back, their voice muffled against sana's skin. it was a simple exchange, but it held a depth of emotion that words alone couldn't convey.
sana's grip on y/n loosened, but her touch remained, her fingers lightly tracing patterns on y/n's back. then, with a soft chuckle, she pulled back slightly, her gaze meeting y/n's with unspoken affection.
"rough day?" sana asked, her brows furrowing with concern.
y/n let out a tired sigh, a mixture of frustration and relief escaping with the breath. "yeah, you could say that."
sana's fingers brushed a strand of hair away from y/n's forehead, her touch gentle and soothing. "well, good news is, i've got something that might help."
y/n raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "oh, really? and what might that be?"
with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes, sana leaned in, her lips brushing against y/n's ear. "a magic remedy called 'sana's hug and kiss therapy.'"
y/n couldn't help but chuckle, the heaviness of the day slowly dissipating as sana's playful spirit worked its charm. "oh, is that a new medical breakthrough?"
sana grinned, her expression infectious. "absolutely. doctor's orders."
before y/n could react, sana's lips found theirs in a soft, lingering kiss. it was a kiss that held the promise of comfort, of home, and of shared moments that could chase away even the darkest of days. y/n's eyes fluttered closed, their arms instinctively winding around sana's waist, pulling her closer.
when the kiss finally broke, y/n's lips curved into a genuine smile. "i think i'm already feeling better."
sana's laughter was a melody that filled the room. "see? miracle cure."
y/n pressed their forehead against sana's, their eyes meeting in an unspoken exchange that spoke volumes. "you have no idea how much i needed this."
sana's fingers threaded through y/n's hair, her touch tender and full of love. "well, lucky for you, i'm here to provide all the hugs and kisses you need."
with a soft chuckle, y/n nuzzled their nose against sana's, a playful glint in their eyes. "do you offer a money-back guarantee?"
sana's response was a gentle peck on y/n's lips, her smile soft and full of adoration. "no refunds necessary. just a lifetime supply of love."
y/n's fingers brushed a strand of hair away from sana's face, their touch feather-light. "well, then i'm definitely getting the better end of this deal."
sana's laughter was a melodic sound that filled the room, her eyes sparkling with mirth. "you're always trying to find loopholes, aren't you?"
"hey, it's my job as the 'skeptical one' in this relationship," y/n teased, their tone affectionate.
sana's fingers trailed down y/n's arm in a slow, soothing caress. "and i'm the 'hopeless romantic' who's here to prove you wrong."
y/n's lips curved into a soft smile, their gaze locked onto sana's. "you're doing a pretty good job so far."
sana's grin was tender, her voice a gentle whisper. "well, there's a lot more where that came from."
as their eyes met in a lingering exchange, the unspoken words hung in the air like a promise—one that needed no formal declaration to hold its weight.
a contented sigh escaped y/n's lips, the earlier weariness now replaced by a sense of calm and belonging. "you know, i'm starting to think that 'sana's hug and kiss therapy' might just be the best remedy in the world."
sana's fingers intertwined with y/n's, their touch warm and reassuring. "it's a patented treatment, only available to a select few."
y/n leaned in, their lips brushing against sana's ear. "lucky me, then?"
sana's laughter was a soft, joyful sound, and she pressed a gentle kiss to y/n's temple. "lucky you."
after a few more moments wrapped in each other's arms, sana reluctantly pulled away, a playful pout forming on her lips. "as much as i'd love to keep you here forever, i have a special surprise for you."
y/n raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "a surprise? now you've got me curious."
sana's grin held a touch of mischief as she took y/n's hand, leading them towards the balcony. "it's nothing big, just something to make our evening even better."
the balcony was bathed in the soft, ethereal glow of twilight. sana's touch was a gentle reassurance as she guided y/n to the railing, their eyes drawn to the canvas of colors that stretched across the sky.
"wow," y/n breathed, their voice a mere whisper. the sky was painted with shades of pink, orange, and lavender—a breathtaking masterpiece that seemed to stretch on forever.
sana's voice was soft, filled with wonder. "two years of staring at this view, and it still takes my breath away."
y/n's gaze shifted from the sky to sana, their heart swelling with affection. "you know, the view might be beautiful, but i think i prefer staring at your face."
sana's cheeks flushed with a mixture of surprise and delight, her fingers gently brushing against y/n's. "oh, shut up."
y/n chuckled softly, the sound a warm melody that danced in the air. "hey, i'm just stating the truth."
sana rolled her eyes playfully, a fond smile tugging at her lips. "you're such a charmer."
"only when i'm with you," y/n quipped, their voice tinged with sincerity.
sana's laughter was soft and melodious, a harmonious blend with the evening breeze that rustled through the balcony plants. "alright, alright. enough with the flattery, you smooth talker."
y/n feigned offense, a hand placed over their heart in mock hurt. "smooth talker? i'll have you know that every word i say is backed by irrefutable evidence."
sana shook her head, her laughter bubbling over. "evidence? is that what we're calling it now?"
y/n's grin was infectious, their fingers intertwining with sana's once more. "you're just jealous because you're not the smooth talker in this relationship."
sana leaned in, her lips brushing against y/n's ear. "oh, really? want me to prove you wrong?"
y/n's playful smile turned into a mischievous smirk. "i'd love to see you try."
sana winked, her tone teasing. "later, perhaps. right now, i've got a surprise for you."
y/n raised an eyebrow, intrigue sparking in their eyes. "a surprise, huh? you've definitely piqued my curiosity."
sana grinned, her fingers giving y/n's hand a gentle squeeze before she turned and disappeared into the apartment. y/n leaned against the balcony railing, a soft smile still playing on their lips as they waited for sana's return.
it wasn't long before sana reappeared, carrying a tray with two steaming cups of chamomile tea and a plate of freshly baked bread. the fragrant aroma of the tea filled the air, mingling with the warm scent of the bread.
sana's eyes sparkled with anticipation as she approached y/n, setting the tray down on a small table by the balcony. "ta-da! chamomile tea and bread—your stress-relief combo."
y/n's expression softened as they took in the sight. "you remembered."
sana's smile was tender as she poured the tea, the liquid cascading gently into the cups. "of course i did. i know how exhausting work has been for you lately."
y/n reached out, their fingers brushing against sana's wrist as she handed them a cup. "thank you, baby." y/n's fingers brushed against sana's as they reached for a cup, their touch lingering for a moment. "you really do take care of me."
sana's smile was soft, her gaze unwavering as she met y/n's eyes. "it's my favorite job."
as they settled into the chairs, y/n cradled the warm cup of chamomile tea in their hands, the fragrant steam rising and mingling with the evening breeze. sana took a sip from her own cup, her expression one of pure contentment.
"can't believe how lucky i am," y/n murmured, more to themselves than to sana.
sana raised an eyebrow, her voice gentle. "what was that?"
y/n's cheeks tinged with a soft blush, but they met sana's gaze with sincerity. "i said i can't believe how lucky i am."
sana's fingers reached across the table to brush against y/n's, a tender smile curving her lips. "i'm so lucky to have you too,"
they shared a moment of silent connection, their fingers entwined on the table—a touch that conveyed more than words ever could. and then, y/n broke the silence with a soft chuckle.
"you know, i think i'm going to request 'sana's surprise tea time' as a regular thing."
sana's laughter was like a melody, the sound carrying a promise of warmth and comfort. "you don't have to request it. it's already in the contract."
y/n feigned surprise, a hand over their heart. "oh, i must have missed that clause."
sana playfully rolled her eyes, her gaze dancing with affection. "it's in the fine print, right next to 'y/n's endless hugs and kisses.'"
y/n's grin was unabashed, their voice tinged with playful mock. "well, it's a good thing we're both committed to upholding our contractual obligations."
sana lifted her teacup in a playful manner, a soft smile gracing her lips. "here's to us, two and more years of marriage."
as their cups clinked together, the warmth of their affection enveloped them. and as they sipped on chamomile tea and savored the simple pleasure of each other's company, y/n and sana found themselves exactly where they belonged—in each other's arms, under the canvas of calico skies.

"dad, i really need to go to yunjin's birthday party tonight!"
in the dimly lit living room, a single lamp cast elongated, eerie shadows that seemed to encroach upon them. y/n felt the intensity of her father's anger emanating from him, making the room feel even more oppressive.
summoning her courage, she took a deep breath and persisted, "i understand your concerns, but yunjin is my best friend. this party means the world to her, and i can't imagine not being there."
her father's response was stern and unyielding, his voice laced with frustration. "i've already said no, y/n! you're staying home tonight, and you'll be studying."
downstairs, her father's voice roared like an impending storm, an avalanche of anger and disappointment crashing upon her. y/n's pulse quickened with every word, each syllable a verbal assault on her resolve. his rage clawed at the edges of her sanctuary, a relentless force determined to breach the haven she had painstakingly built.
"dad, please, just listen—" y/n implored, her voice a trembling mix of desperation and hope.
but her father's anger remained unyielding, a relentless tempest that refused to be tamed. "you're not leaving this house tonight, y/n! you hear me?"
tears welled up in y/n's eyes as the crushing weight of her dreams clashed with the unrelenting aggression of her father. with a heavy heart, she turned away, ascending the creaking wooden staircase. each step felt like a reluctant retreat, a painful acknowledgment of the battle she faced, yet her spirit remained unbroken, determined to find a way to break free.
minutes stretched like hours, and just as y/n felt her world closing in, she knew she needed a breath of fresh air. she wiped her tears, her resolve steadying as she walked upstairs to her room. each step was heavy with a mix of frustration and determination.
the memory of her father's voice still lingered as she entered her room, the remnants of his anger casting a shadow over her. the evening sun had now completely disappeared, and the room was enveloped in the soft, cool glow of the moonlight. she sat on the edge of her bed, her heart still racing, her mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions.
battling the sting of tears, she squeezed her eyes shut, her heart hammering in her chest in sync with the storm that raged outside her room. the silence that followed was deafening, an eerie hush that hung in the air like an unspoken verdict after the tempestuous trial that had just taken place.
as the echoes of her father's rage slowly faded, a muffled tap on her windowpane sliced through the heavy silence, making her jump. her heart raced, the fear of facing another confrontation gripping her. with hesitant steps, y/n approached the window, her breath held in a mixture of trepidation and intrigue.
hesitatingly, she pulled back the curtain, her eyes widening in surprise. "... yunjin?" she breathed, her voice a fragile mix of astonishment and relief as she opened the window.
outside, yunjin's presence was a burst of energy against the encroaching night, her hazel-brown hair adorned with leaves and twigs, an unexpected consequence of her journey to reach y/n. despite the makeshift forest crown, her grin was wide, bordering on awkward, as if she had been caught in the act of some secret adventure.
"hey there," yunjin greeted, her voice carrying a blend of mischief. she swiped at a stray leaf clinging to her hair, her eyes shining with anticipation as she climbed up to the room.
y/n's surprise melted into a mixture of confusion and amusement. "you're... you're at my window?" she stammered, disbelief coloring her words.
yunjin's grin widened, unabashed. "who needs doors when you've got windows, right?" she quipped, her eyes sparkling with a playful glint.
y/n laughed, the tension from earlier melting away with each chuckle. "you're something else, yunjin," she teased, her heart warming at the sight of her friend as she closed the window.
"how else would i make a grand entrance?" yunjin joked, her tone light.
the absurdity of the situation broke the tension that had enveloped the room, a laughter-inducing rupture in the gravity of the moment. y/n found herself chuckling despite herself, a warm sense of familiarity settling in.
"but seriously, how did you even get up here?" y/n asked, her curiosity piqued by the daring feat.
yunjin shrugged, her grin now tinged with a touch of sheepishness. "let's just say i navigated a few trees, a couple of branches, and maybe stumbled a bit. but here i am, unscathed." she brushed a few lingering leaves from her hair, a playful glint in her eyes.
"you're unbelievable, you know that?" y/n sighed, her voice laced with affection. she watched as yunjin patted off the small leaves on her clothes.
yunjin feigned offense, placing a hand over her heart dramatically. "unbelievably charming? i know."
y/n's laughter subsided, her gaze meeting yunjin's in a moment of unspoken connection. "maybe," she replied, a mixture of earnestness and fondness coloring her words.
the room seemed to hold its breath after their laughter subsided, an electric current of emotion buzzing between y/n and yunjin. yunjin's eyes, warm and perceptive, noticed the redness and puffiness of y/n's eyes, the traces of a struggle that was all too familiar.
"hey," yunjin began, her voice gentle, "are you okay? what happened?"
y/n swallowed hard, struggling to find the right words. she hadn't meant for yunjin to see her like this, to witness the cracks in the facade she so often wore. "it's just... family stuff," she mumbled, avoiding yunjin's gaze.
yunjin's expression transformed from concern to something more complex, a mix of emotions that flickered across her face like shadows. "y/n, you can't keep brushing things off like this. if something's wrong, you can talk to me."
y/n's heart ached at the sincerity in yunjin's words. she wished she could share everything, but the weight of her struggles felt too heavy to burden her friend with.
"i know, yunjin," y/n replied softly, her voice tinged with gratitude. "i'm just... dealing with things."
yunjin's eyes bore into y/n's, a silent plea for honesty. "is it because of your dad?"
y/n looked away, her throat tightening. "yeah," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
a sudden fire ignited in yunjin's eyes, her fists clenching in a mixture of anger and protectiveness. "y/n, no one should make you feel like this. if he's hurting you, i swear i'll—"
y/n's heart swelled at yunjin's fierce loyalty, but she couldn't let her friend bear the burden of her battles. "no, yunjin, it's not like that. i promise."
yunjin's anger faded, replaced by a soft determination. "well, you don't have to go through this alone."
y/n managed a small smile through the tears. "you really care about me, huh?"
yunjin's grin was bittersweet, as if happiness and sadness were warring for dominance on her face. "of course i do, y/n. you mean everything to me."
y/n's heart skipped a beat at yunjin's heartfelt words. there was an intensity in her friend's gaze, a depth of emotion that y/n couldn't quite put her finger on. she felt a rush of warmth, a sense of being cherished that went beyond their usual friendship. but y/n quickly brushed aside the thought, unsure if she was just reading too much into things. after all, yunjin was her best friend, and their connection had always been strong.
"yeah, you're pretty amazing too," y/n replied, a genuine smile tugging at her lips.
yunjin's gaze held a thousand unspoken words as she pulled y/n into a tight embrace. y/n felt the warmth of yunjin's body, the comfort of her presence, and for a moment, everything else faded away. it was as if the world had stopped spinning just for them.
"i'm lucky to have you as my best friend," y/n said, her voice muffled against yunjin's shoulder.
yunjin held her even tighter, her embrace a mixture of happiness and aching sadness that y/n couldn't quite decipher. in that moment, y/n felt the depth of their connection, the way yunjin had been a constant in her life, a source of unwavering strength and comfort.
but as they clung to each other, yunjin's heart carried an unspoken burden. she couldn't help but wonder if y/n would ever truly understand the depth of her feelings, the silent longing she had harbored for so long. in that embrace, yunjin found both solace and a bittersweet ache, a love that remained unvoiced, an unfulfilled wish that danced in the shadow of their friendship.
though, y/n suddenly realized that something important was happening today— it was yunjin's birthday. a mixture of guilt and excitement surged within her, and she gently pulled away from their hug, a small smile playing on her lips.
"wait, yunjin," y/n said softly, her eyes lighting up with realization. she reached under her bed and retrieved a carefully wrapped package, her fingers trembling with a blend of nervousness and anticipation. "...i have something for you."
yunjin's eyes widened with surprise, a delighted curiosity dancing in her gaze. "for me?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine surprise.
y/n nodded, a shy smile gracing her lips as she extended the gift toward yunjin. "yeah. happy birthday, yunjin."
yunjin accepted the gift with a mixture of excitement and gratitude, her fingers carefully unwrapping the paper to reveal a small box beneath. her heart fluttered with a sense of anticipation, and she looked up at y/n with an affectionate smile. "you didn't have to get me anything, you know."
y/n's smile widened, but a hint of mischief danced in her eyes. "oh, but i did. you see, i spent my allowance for the month at that festival we went to last week." she chuckled, her tone light and playful.
yunjin's eyes lit up with understanding and fondness. "ah, so that's why you were so eager to try all those different foods and play all those games."
y/n's cheeks flushed with a sheepish grin. "yeah, guilty as charged. but i wanted to make your birthday special."
with a gentle laugh, yunjin opened the small box to find a delicate crochet pattern inside. her eyes widened in surprise, and she looked at y/n in awe. "is this...?"
y/n nodded, her heart racing with a blend of nervous anticipation and hope. "it's a.... i don't know, crochet guitar keychain. i mean, you love to play guitar and if i had more money i would have bought you a real one but uh... i put it together myself, though it's not flawless, but..."
yunjin's eyes brightened with a mixture of surprise and amusement. "a crochet guitar pattern? that's so uniquely thoughtful, y/n." she chuckled softly, a playful glint in her eyes. "and here i was thinking you were giving me a crash course in musical instruments."
y/n's cheeks flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and amusement. "oh gosh, no. i know you're the one with the guitar skills. i can barely strum a chord."
yunjin's laughter was warm and genuine, a melody that resonated in the room. "well, i appreciate the sentiment, really. i promise i won't hold it against you if my guitar sounds a bit... thread-like."
y/n chuckled and rolled her eyes at the pun, the tension from earlier melting away in the comfort of their easy banter. "i'm just glad you like it. i wanted to give you something meaningful."
yunjin's gaze held a soft intensity as she met y/n's eyes. "you always know how to make things meaningful, y/n. that's one of the things i admire about you."
a flush of warmth spread across y/n's cheeks, her heart fluttering at yunjin's words. "you're making me blush, yunjin."
yunjin's grin was infectious as she reached out to playfully nudge y/n's shoulder. "well, get used to it, because i'll keep saying it if i have to."
y/n rolled her eyes in mock exasperation, though her heart danced with happiness. "you're impossible."
yunjin's laughter filled the room once more, a sound that felt like a soothing melody in the midst of the night. "and you're amazing."
as their laughter subsided, a comfortable silence settled between them, punctuated by the soft rustling of leaves outside the window. y/n glanced at the crochet pattern in yunjin's hands, yunjin's fingers tracing the delicate lines.
"it's not much, yunjin," y/n said, her voice tinged with a mixture of humility and hope. "but i really hoped you'd like it."
yunjin's gaze softened as she looked at y/n. "you have no idea how much this means to me, y/n. it's not about what it is, but about the thought and effort you put into it."
y/n's smile was genuine, a reflection of the warmth she felt inside. "well, then i'm glad i put in the effort."
without warning, yunjin enveloped y/n in a tight hug, a gesture that spoke volumes about her gratitude and affection. "you're the best, you know that?"
y/n's arms instinctively wrapped around yunjin, a rush of contentment flooding her senses. "i'm just happy to see you happy, yunjin."
yunjin's heart swelled with affection as she looked at y/n, her best friend who always managed to surprise her with her thoughtfulness. "it's more than special, y/n. it's perfect."
y/n's cheeks flushed with a mixture of happiness and relief. "you really think so?"
yunjin's response was immediate and sincere. "absolutely. and you know what? i don't need anything else. this is the best birthday gift i've ever received." before y/n could say anything more, yunjin enveloped her in a tight, heartfelt hug. "thank you, y/n. i really, truly love it."
y/n's arms wrapped around yunjin, and she felt a sense of contentment settle within her. "i'm so glad you like it, yunjin."
as the moon's glow continued to weave a tapestry of light and shadows in y/n's room, yunjin's eyes sparkled with a mix of fondness and mischief. "you know, i wish i could stay over, but my parents would probably have a search party out for me by morning."
y/n laughed, the sound a melody that filled the air with a sense of ease. "yeah, you disappearing would probably cause quite a commotion."
yunjin's grin widened. "oh, definitely. i can already imagine the headlines: 'local teen vanishes, blame falls on sneaky friend.'"
y/n playfully rolled her eyes. "and who's the sneaky friend in that scenario?"
yunjin winked. "obviously, it's you. you're the one luring innocent teens into your little lair."
they shared a laugh, the familiarity of their banter a comforting embrace in itself. "well, i promise i won't keep you hostage in my lair," y/n teased. "but before you go, you better promise to bring me some of the amazing food from your birthday party tomorrow."
yunjin's expression turned thoughtful for a moment before she grinned mischievously. "deal. i'll be the delivery girl, and we can have a mini feast at lunch."
y/n's eyes lit up at the idea. "perfect. you know the way to my heart is through food."
yunjin chuckled. "noted. food it is."
y/n's smile turned soft, a mixture of warmth and affection as she looked at her friend. "yunjin, thank you for coming tonight. you made a not-so-great day so much better."
yunjin's eyes gleamed with a warmth that matched y/n's. "and thanks for best birthday gift, seriously."
their smiles held a shared understanding, a testament to the support they offered each other through life's ups and downs. "have a good night, yunjin," y/n said, her voice gentle. y/n's eyes glimmered as she met yunjin's gaze, a touch of sentiment in her smile. "and a final happy birthday, yunjin."
yunjin's heart swelled with gratitude, her emotions bubbling to the surface. "good night, y/n. and remember, if your dad is acting up again..."
yunjin's brow furrowed in concern, but before she could finish her sentence, y/n leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on her cheek. yunjin froze, her eyes widening in surprise, her cheeks turning a shade of pink that was illuminated by the moonlight filtering through the window.
y/n pulled back with a playful grin, her heart racing but her expression casual. "well, you'll know what to do."
yunjin's lips parted as if she wanted to say something, but no words came out. y/n's grin only widened, and she winked before turning to open back te window again, allowing the night breeze to flow into the room.
yunjin's voice was a mixture of flustered and amused as she finally found her words. "you... you're something else, y/n."
y/n laughed softly, her heart dancing with both nerves and satisfaction. "i'll take that as a compliment."
yunjin's gaze held a mix of emotions – surprise, happiness, and a touch of something more. "thank you for tonight, y/n. and for the unexpected second birthday gift."
as y/n watched yunjin prepare to leave through the window, she felt a sense of contentment settle within her. "anytime, yunjin. have a great night, and remember, i'll be eagerly waiting for the food tomorrow."
yunjin's smile was a luminous beam in the moonlight. "you got it. and, y/n..."
y/n raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "yes?"
yunjin hesitated for a brief moment before her smile returned, brighter than ever. "this little keychain might just be the best birthday gift i've received in my whole life."
y/n's heart skipped a beat at yunjin's words, her mind racing with a mixture of excitement and curiosity. "i'm glad you liked it," she replied, her voice soft.
yunjin's expression held a touch of playfulness as she leaned against the window frame. "oh, trust me, i loved it. though you might have caught me a bit off-guard with that kiss."
a flush of embarrassment warmed y/n's cheeks, but her grin was unapologetic. "consider it a spontaneous bonus."
yunjin's laughter was a music that danced through the night air, and her eyes held a mixture of amusement and affection as she met y/n's gaze. "you're really weird, you know that?"
y/n's grin became a bit mischievous as she gazed at yunjin. "you know, sometimes a bit of spur-of-the-moment action adds some excitement, doesn't it?"
yunjin's smile softened, her gaze holding a lingering warmth. "definitely not."
as they stood by the window, a comfortable silence settled between them, the moonlight casting a gentle glow over their faces. yunjin's mind, though still a bit flustered from the unexpected kiss, was filled with a newfound sense of determination. she couldn't ignore the fluttering feeling in her chest, the way her heart raced in y/n's presence.
she promised herself that in the near future, she would make her own move. she had cherished their friendship for so long, and now, with the added realization of her deeper feelings, yunjin knew it was time to be brave. she would let y/n know, in her own way, that the bond they shared meant more.
as their quiet moment lingered, yunjin finally spoke, her voice a blend of sincerity and anticipation. "y/n, have a wonderful night. and just so you know, if your dad gives you any trouble, don't hesitate to call me."
y/n's gaze held a soft appreciation, her heart warmed by yunjin's unwavering support. "thank you, yunjin. you're the coolest but also the weirdest friend."
before either of them could say more, y/n leaned in and planted a gentle kiss on yunjin's cheek once more. this time, yunjin didn't freeze – she felt a warmth spread from the point of contact, a sensation that lingered even after y/n pulled away.
y/n's grin was playful, her eyes dancing with mischief. "just returning the favor."
yunjin's lips parted as if she wanted to say something, but instead, she found herself lost in the moment, a blend of emotions swirling within her. she finally managed to regain her composure, her voice soft but genuine. "good night, y/n. and thank you, again, for everything."
y/n's smile was a final farewell, a promise of another day to come. "sleep well, yunjin. and happy birthday, once more."
as yunjin disappeared from the windowpane, her heart was a whirlwind of emotions – flustered from the unexpectedness of the evening, but also filled with a hopeful anticipation of what the future might hold. the small, spontaneous kiss might have been an unplanned gift, but it had ignited a spark within her.
with a contented sigh, yunjin carried the memory of that night with her, knowing that her feelings for y/n were something to be cherished and explored, even if it meant stepping into uncharted territory. and as she made her way home, the stars overhead seemed to twinkle with their own sense of excitement, as if the universe itself was rooting for them.
as yunjin walked away from y/n's house, her heart was all over the place. she couldn't help but replay the whole evening in her head like a movie – the surprise kiss, y/n's eyes, and their silly banter. it was like a rom-com but with her and y/n as the lead character.
"i mean, seriously," she mumbled to herself, "who would've thought a little cheek kiss could send my heart into overdrive like this?"
she kicked a pebble along the path, trying to sort out her jumbled thoughts. her feelings for y/n were a mess, like a puzzle missing a few pieces. okay, maybe a lot of pieces. and she had no clue how to put them together.
"love? seriously, yunjin?" she shook her head, feeling a mixture of excitement and anxiety. "you're like the cheesy protagonist in one of those teen dramas, pining after your best friend. classic."
staring up at the stars, yunjin couldn't help but chuckle. "and now i'm having a heart-to-heart with the universe. great, just great."
but as the stars twinkled above, a strange sense of comfort washed over her. it was like they were in on the secret, like they knew something she didn't. or maybe she was just imagining things. who knew?
with a determined grin, she straightened her posture. "well, universe, i guess i'm ready for this mess. whatever it is."
walking home, she couldn't shake the dorky smile that tugged at her lips. she might not have all the answers, but she was ready to figure them out – even if it meant stumbling through a few more awkward moments and heartfelt confessions. after all, that was the messy beauty of falling in love, right?

the three times danielle wondered about the collision of your lips against hers, and that one time she made it real.
✩ warnings. non!idol au, high school!au, established relationship, heavy fluff, mentions of food, tad bit of jealous danielle
✩ word count. ~4.5k words
✩ playing. kiss goodnight [i don't know how but they found me]

as the school's annual cherry blossom festival embraced the campus in a tender embrace of pink petals, y/n and danielle strolled hand in hand through the enchanting scene. laughter, music, and the sweet scent of blossoms drifted through the air, setting the stage for a day of joy and connection.
y/n's laughter was a melody that resonated in the air, and danielle found herself captivated by the way y/n's eyes lit up like stars on a clear night. their fingers intertwined, the world around them seemed to fade, leaving only the warmth of each other's presence. the soft petals rained down, brushing against their skin like the gentlest caress.
y/n's eyes lit up with the kind of excitement that could rival a child's on christmas morning. with a gentle nudge, they pointed out another stall adorned with an assortment of colorful trinkets. "oh, look at that one! they have those adorable handmade keychains i told you about."
danielle's laughter bubbled forth, a symphony of joy that painted the air with warmth. "you and your keychains," she remarked, her voice a comforting embrace. "is there any festival you've attended where you haven't scoured every nook and cranny for them?"
y/n's grin stretched from ear to ear, a radiant display of their uncontainable delight. "nope," they admitted, their eyes twinkling with mirth. "not a single one. keychains are my ultimate weakness; i can't resist their charm."
a sea of vibrant keychains lay before them, each one capturing a different shade of their shared day. as their fingers brushed against one another, an electric warmth sparked between them, leaving a lingering sensation that buzzed like a whispered secret.
with each new keychain, y/n's excitement was palpable, their joy like a magnet that drew danielle closer. "hey, look at this one!" they exclaimed, their voice laced with an enthusiasm that was positively contagious. in their hand dangled a keychain shaped like a delicate cherry blossom, a nod to the very festival that surrounded them. "it's like a souvenir from today."
danielle leaned in, her shoulder grazing y/n's as they examined the tiny trinket. "it's cute, just like you," she whispered, her words carrying a warmth that transcended the playful banter.
a hint of pink tinged y/n's cheeks, like the blush of dawn spreading across the horizon. their eyes shimmered with unfiltered delight, a telltale sign of the happiness that danced just beneath the surface. "are you trying to make me blush?" they teased, their voice light as a feather.
danielle's laughter was a soft echo of the love that filled her heart. "maybe. but it's the truth." with a tender smile, she allowed herself to bask in the moment, her heart swelling with the simplicity of their connection. in these exchanges, in the brush of their fingers and the laughter they shared, she found a world where they could just be—where they could create memories as delicate and cherished as the blossoms that surrounded them.
y/n's eyes widened as they spotted a stall adorned with a colorful array of mouthwatering treats. "oh, look over there!" they exclaimed, pointing while grinning at danielle. "they've got an amazing selection of food. i've heard their caramel-glazed pastries are to die for."
danielle's curiosity was piqued, and a smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "caramel, huh? well, we definitely can't miss out on that."
they weaved their way through the crowd, finally reaching the stall that promised a taste of heaven. the intoxicating aroma of various dishes filled the air, mingling with the delicate smell of cherry blossoms. danielle's eyes scanned the choices, her mouth watering at the thought of savoring something sweet.
after a brief discussion, they settled on a platter of the much-anticipated caramel-glazed pastries. as danielle handed over the coins and received the plate in return, she couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement in her chest as y/n pulls her by the wrist to a bench.
sitting at a nearby bench, they shared the platter between them, their fingers brushing as they passed it back and forth. as y/n took a bite, a small glint of mischief danced in danielle's eyes. she watched with careful observation, the corner of her lips twitching into a knowing smile.
the delicate caramel glaze clung to y/n's lips, glistening like liquid gold under the sunlight. the sight transfixed danielle, her eyes tracing the curve of y/n's mouth, a tiny detail that melted danielle's heart the way the caramel pastry melted on y/n's tongue.
unseen by anyone but herself, danielle froze in place, her very being tethered to the image before her. her mind spun like a whirlwind, thoughts colliding in a delightful chaos. it was a sight so simple yet utterly captivating—a single moment that held the potential to change everything.
the idea bloomed within her mind like a flower in spring, a thought so vivid and captivating that it took her breath away. she imagined what it would be like to lean in, to bridge the space between them, and let their lips meet in a tender, stolen kiss—a kiss that would taste like the sweetness of the festival itself.
in an instant, the world around her blurred as her thoughts were consumed by a single, captivating idea—kissing y/n right there, under the blossoms, amidst the beauty of the festival. the image played out like a vivid dream, their lips meeting in a tender, stolen kiss that held all the unspoken affection between them.
with a deep breath, she inched closer, her heart urging her to seize the moment, to let her feelings be known. but just as she leaned in, her courage faltered. the vision of kissing y/n was electrifying, but it was also daunting, a step into the unknown.
in a sudden burst of nervous energy, she reached out, her fingers brushing against y/n's lips as she gently wiped away the lingering glaze. it was a fleeting touch, but it spoke volumes—a gesture that held a truth she wasn't yet ready to vocalize.
y/n blinked, the moment catching them off guard, confusion briefly clouding their eyes. "did i get something on my lips?" they asked, a touch of innocence in their voice.
danielle's heart raced, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush. she managed a small, awkward smile, her words coming out in a gentle stumble. "uh, yeah, just a little glaze. don't want you walking around with caramel lips."
y/n's brow furrowed in confusion, their eyes widening when danielle's thumb brushed against the corner of their mouth, sweeping away the lingering glaze. as danielle leaned back, she couldn't help but admire the way y/n's lips glistened, like a promise waiting to be fulfilled.
"thanks," y/n said, their voice soft as their gaze met danielle's. there was a certain tenderness in their expression, a silent connection that seemed to bridge the gap between them.
the spell of the moment was broken, but danielle's heart still raced with the truth that lingered in the air. she had come so close to bridging that gap, to making her feelings known, but the words had escaped her.
but as swiftly as the idea had taken root, reality snapped back into place. y/n's voice, like a gentle breeze, carried through the air, their excitement contagious. "hey, have you seen that stall over there? let's go check it out!"
danielle blinked, the spell of her thoughts broken by the smile that appeared on y/n's lips. she managed to summon a smile, her heart a tumultuous sea of emotions. "sure thing," she replied, her voice carrying a touch of warmth that was reserved just for y/n.
as they wandered between the stalls, y/n remained oblivious to the whirlwind of thoughts in danielle's mind, the tender excitement that hung in the air like a shared secret. amidst the fluttering cherry blossoms, danielle found herself wondering if, perhaps, those petals might someday hold the memory of the first kiss she had dreamt of—a kiss that would mark the start of their beautiful journey, wrapped in the gentle embrace of the blossoms that had witnessed it all.

in the cozy home economics classroom, y/n and minji, a fellow classmate, found themselves in tandem, embarking on a baking adventure. together at a table adorned with ingredients, their movements seemed to synchronize effortlessly. across from them, danielle had been paired with another student, but her eyes involuntarily wandered to y/n and minji now and then.
from her seat at the neighboring table, danielle couldn't resist stealing glances in their direction, a gentle tinge of envy brushing her heart. however, she didn't allow this emotion to disrupt her own partnership. she shared smiles with her partner and made sure they stayed on track with their own batch of cookies.
as the inviting scent of baked treats filled the air, minji's methodical approach stood out. her actions flowed like a practiced dance, each move purposeful and precise. "y/n, could you grab the chocolate chips?" minji's request held an unwavering focus, as if she was conducting a culinary orchestra.
y/n, always eager to contribute, swiftly rose from their chair and headed to the designated cupboard. however, a moment of confusion befell them as they discovered the cupboard was surprisingly bare. a flicker of concern crossed their face as they turned back to minji, a hint of uncertainty shadowing their expression.
unbeknownst to y/n, danielle caught the fleeting worry in their eyes. with a subtle gesture, she reached into her own stash, retrieving a small container of chocolate chips, and subtly slid it towards y/n, all while pretending to adjust her apron.
minji glanced up, a hint of bemusement playing on her features. "what's taking so long, y/n?"
y/n's voice trembled slightly as they managed a sheepish grin. "looks like we're out of chocolate chips, minji."
minji's eyebrows arched, a mix of surprise and consideration evident. she was just about to suggest an alternative when y/n's face lit up with realization. they turned back to the cupboard, spotting the small container of chocolate chips that danielle had cleverly provided.
regaining their confidence, y/n retrieved the chocolate chips and returned to their spot, a renewed sense of assurance in their demeanor. "found them!"
a half-smile tugged at the corner of minji's lips, a blend of amusement and intrigue gleaming in her eyes. "resourceful move, y/n. nice save."
"maybe i need glasses, huh?" the playful jest was their way of brushing off any embarrassment, fostering a sense of togetherness that seemed woven into the very essence of the room.
back to danielle, she found herself chuckling as she overheard a particularly amusing remark from y/n and minji's lively conversation. their banter was a melody that filled the room, and danielle couldn't help but be captivated by the way y/n's laughter danced in the air.
continuing to work on their own batch of cookies, danielle and her partner shared a bond of their own, but her attention kept drifting to y/n, like a magnet drawn to their energy. her eyes followed y/n's every move, her heart warming at the sight of y/n's enthusiasm.
but then, as if on cue, y/n performed a seemingly ordinary action that ignited an extraordinary reaction within danielle. the sight of y/n delicately licking a bit of frosting off their finger had an unexpectedly profound impact on her. it was a gesture that held a tenderness and vulnerability that resonated deeply within danielle's heart. as she watched, time seemed to slow, and the world around her dimmed in comparison to the ethereal image before her.
in that fleeting moment, danielle's mind embarked on a journey of its own. memories intertwined with dreams, and she found herself vividly recalling the day they had spent together amidst the cherry blossoms. the memory of y/n's laughter, the soft breeze that carried the delicate scent of petals, and the way y/n's eyes had shimmered with an iridescent warmth—all of it rushed back to her like a cherished melody.
during that date, as y/n had bitten into a delectable dessert, leaving a delicate glaze on their lips, danielle had experienced a similar sensation. the sight had kindled a fire of curiosity and desire within her, and her thoughts had wandered to the taste of those lips—the lips that now bore a trace of frosting.
caught between the present and the past, danielle felt the warmth of y/n's presence wrap around her like a cozy blanket. it was a feeling she couldn't quite put into words, a sensation that whispered of the beginnings of something extraordinary.
in the midst of her reverie, danielle's fingers slipped, and a bit more sugar than intended found its way into the mix. the sound of her partner's amused chuckle snapped her back to reality, and she offered an apologetic smile. "guess my mind wandered a bit," she confessed, laughter dancing in her eyes.
as she continued to work on their cookies, danielle couldn't help but steal glances at y/n every now and then. she had a feeling that this day would be etched in her memory, just like the cherry blossom festival had been—a series of moments that pushes her to have the courage to maybe, just maybe— feel your lips against hers.

in the serene ambiance of the school library, y/n and danielle found themselves immersed in a world of hushed conversations and the soft rustling of pages. y/n's animated voice danced through the air as they shared the latest gossip, their words a tapestry of intrigue and amusement.
"and you won't believe what happened next," y/n exclaimed, leaning in close to danielle, their faces just inches apart. "hyejin actually confronted him about the rumor, right there in the cafeteria!"
danielle's lips curved into a smile as she leaned in slightly, captivated by the story unfolding before her. "no way! what did jiwon say?"
y/n's eyes sparkled with mischief, their voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "well, he turned all shades of red, stuttered for a bit, and then finally admitted that the rumor was true!"
danielle's laughter mingled with y/n's, the shared amusement creating an unspoken connection between them. "oh my gosh, that's insane!"
y/n's voice was a captivating melody, each word crafting an image of the gossip they were sharing. however, as their tale swirled through the air, the resonance of their voice faded for danielle, her gaze gravitating toward the delicate curve of y/n's lips. thoughts of her own little thoughts flickered to life, painting her lips with a shy, unspoken smile that only she could understand.
while the gossip y/n recounted held its own allure, it became background noise to the symphony of emotions coursing through danielle's mind. the flutter of her heart, the warmth that seemed to emanate from within—it all centered around the idea of y/n's lips meeting her own in a soft, stolen kiss.
"can you believe that?" y/n's voice brought danielle back to the present, the story now complete. "and i thought it was just a stupid rumor!"
danielle found herself caught in a tender reverie as she watched y/n laugh to herself. she imagined what it would be like to bridge the small gap between them, to let her fingers brush against y/n's cheek before their lips met in a delicate, stolen kiss. it was a dream she had indulged in more times than she could count, a fantasy that warmed her heart whenever it resurfaced.
with a self-deprecating chuckle, y/n confessed, "well, that's probably more interesting than the history notes i'm supposed to be reading."
danielle's laughter joined y/n's, a warm resonance that carried a shared understanding. "i'd say that's a good break from studying. but you still have time to refocus, don't worry."
y/n nodded, determination shining in their eyes, accompanied by a hint of blush. "you're right. i need to get back to actually studying. thanks for being my break, though."
between y/n's nod of determination and their admission of being sidetracked by the story, danielle felt her heart flutter in the most delightful way. it was the effect of being so close to y/n, their shared laughter and intimate conversation weaving an invisible thread that tugged at her emotions.
reality gradually seeped back in as y/n's laughter fades to a face of realization. with a rueful smile, y/n admitted, "i got so caught up in that story that i haven't done any actual studying."
danielle chuckled softly, her gaze meeting y/n's with an understanding twinkle. "seriously? well, you should study now."
y/n nodded, their expression a mix of determination and mild embarrassment. "definitely. i should get back to studying before the next period starts."
as y/n returned to their books and notes, danielle felt a quiet sense of resolve settle within her. she watched y/n's profile, their concentration etched on their features, and made a promise to herself. the next time her mind wandered to the thought of kissing y/n, she wouldn't let it slip away. the courage she had been gathering would be put to good use, she determined, letting the anticipation of that next stolen moment fill her heart.

in the ambiance of danielle's room, the soft lamplight cast a gentle, golden glow that illuminated the space around them. amidst scattered textbooks and notes, the calmness of the moment was interrupted by the undeniable presence of y/n's sweet smile as they doodle on their notes. it was as if their smile was a ray of sunshine, capable of dispelling any shadows that lingered in the corners of the room. danielle couldn't help but feel drawn to that radiant warmth, her gaze involuntarily fixated on the curve of y/n's lips.
y/n's concern broke through the quietude, their voice a soft melody that seemed attuned to danielle's heart. "hey, everything okay?" they inquired, their brows furrowed with genuine worry. the question hung in the air like a delicate thread, tethering the two of them in a shared moment of concern.
she found herself reflexively denying any trouble, her words slipping out like an automatic response. "oh, it's nothing, really. just a bit... spaced out, i guess." danielle attempted a reassuring smile, but there was no masking the distant look that had clouded her eyes.
y/n's gaze held a mixture of skepticism and care, their perceptive eyes seeming to unravel the layers she tried to hide. "spaced out?" they echoed, their voice a gentle prompt for her to elaborate.
with a faint chuckle, danielle shook her head, her tone a blend of bemusement and honesty. "yeah, i know, it sounds strange. i just can't seem to focus, even though i'm here to study."
a playful glint danced in y/n's eyes, a hint of mischief accompanied by a genuine smile. "i've got an idea," they announced, their voice carrying the suggestion like a gentle breeze that swayed the air around them. their gaze held a sense of playful challenge, as if they were extending an invitation into a world of shared secrets.
intrigued, danielle couldn't help but offer a quirk of her eyebrow. "oh? what kind of idea?"
y/n's smile widened, their tone a mixture of playfulness and excitement. "how about this: if you can manage to focus on studying for the next thirty minutes, there's a reward waiting for you."
'the proposal hung in the air like a secret shared between conspirators, igniting a spark of curiosity within danielle. the simplicity of the challenge stirred a sense of anticipation within her, a fluttering of excitement that settled in the pit of her stomach. could the reward be something more than what it seemed? the idea danced at the edge of her thoughts, teasing her with its possibility.
their shared laughter seemed to intertwine with the very air around them, forming an unspoken agreement that bound them in their shared endeavor. "you're on," danielle responded, her voice carrying a touch of determination, her mind already starting to race with anticipation.
y/n's eyes sparkled with approval, their gaze a reflection of their unwavering belief in her abilities. "i knew you'd be up for it." their words seemed to hold an additional layer of meaning, as if they were acknowledging the unspoken challenge that had been set between them. danielle's heart skipped a beat, wondering if the reward she hoped for was within reach.
determination surged within danielle, her fingers moving across the pages of her textbook with newfound purpose. she was resolute, her gaze steady as she immersed herself in the task at hand. throughout those minutes, she could feel the steady rhythm of her heartbeat, each passing second drawing her closer to the promise that awaited her.
as the minutes flowed by, danielle's concentration remained steadfast, but the magnetic pull of y/n's presence was inescapable. each stolen glance exchanged between them, each shared smile, felt like a secret communication that transcended words. it was a dance of souls, a silent dialogue that existed only in their shared moments, and with every stolen glance, the anticipation within danielle grew.
finally, the time was up, marked by the gentle chime of the clock. y/n's voice, like a soft whisper, broke through the serenity of the room. "danielle, close your eyes."
danielle's heartbeat quickened, her pulse becoming a thunderous rhythm in her ears. with her heart racing, she obediently closed her eyes, her other senses heightened in the absence of sight. she stayed perfectly still, every nerve on edge as she waited for the imminent collision of their lips.
y/n's hands gently found hers, fingers intertwining in a tender embrace. danielle's heart pounded even harder, the sensation of y/n's touch sending electrifying shivers down her spine. with each passing moment, her flustered state seemed to intensify, her emotions a tempest within her chest.
then, a small object was placed in the center of her hand. her fingers instinctively curled around it, her heart fluttering with uncertainty. what was it that y/n had given her? slowly, hesitantly, she opened her hand, her eyes still closed.
"tada!" y/n's voice was a playful exclamation, accompanied by the sound of their laughter. "open your eyes, danielle."
with a mixture of curiosity and a touch of trepidation, danielle's eyelids fluttered open. her gaze was met with the sight of her palm, and the small object nestled within. a candy—her favorite candy, to be precise. the sweetness of the gesture did not escape her, and she mustered a smile, albeit one that felt somewhat forced.
y/n's expression was a mixture of hope and enthusiasm, their eyes searching danielle's for a reaction. despite her racing heart and the whirlwind of emotions within her, danielle managed to respond, her voice gentle and grateful. "thank you, y/n."
y/n's gaze flickered toward the clock, their brows furrowing in realization that time had slipped away. the late hour was a reminder that responsibilities awaited outside of the cozy studying session they had experienced. "i should probably head home," they murmured, their voice tinged with reluctance.
as y/n began gathering their textbooks and belongings, danielle's gaze lingered on them, a soft sigh escaping her lips. her fingers absentmindedly unwrapped the candy y/n had given her, her thoughts churning in a sea of uncertainty. she was torn between the promise she had made to herself—to summon the courage for a kiss—and the fear that seemed to grip her heart whenever she considered crossing that boundary.
y/n's words continued to flow, a gentle stream of conversation that painted the room with familiarity. danielle watched, her thoughts a whirlwind of contemplation, as y/n shouldered their bag and prepared to leave. the "goodnight" that y/n offered seemed to hang in the air like a lingering melody.
but then, as y/n turned to walk away, an impulse surged within danielle. she couldn't let this opportunity slip away, not when her heart beat so loudly in her chest. "wait!" the word burst forth, a desperate plea that seemed to hang in the air.
y/n paused, their eyes widening with surprise and concern. before they could even utter a question, danielle's arms were around them, pulling them into a tight hug. the warmth of y/n's body pressed against hers, their heartbeats seemingly synchronized in that moment.
"i... i don't want to let this chance slip away," danielle's words tumbled out in a rush, her voice a mixture of vulnerability and determination. "i've been thinking about this for so long, and i've promised myself to be brave. y/n, i..." she hesitated for a split second, her heart racing as she forged ahead, "can we kiss... goodnight?"
in that charged moment, the weight of danielle's confession hung palpably in the air, each word carrying the depth of her emotions. the very air seemed to hold its breath, as if the room itself acknowledged the gravity of what was transpiring between them. it was as though the universe conspired to create a space for their truth to be shared.
y/n's eyes remained locked with danielle's, their gaze unwavering even as surprise and uncertainty danced within their depths. danielle could see the gears turning in y/n's mind, the whirlwind of thoughts and emotions that painted an intricate tapestry on their expressive face. she held her breath, her heartbeat a thunderous echo in her ears, as she awaited their response.
and then, like the gradual bloom of a flower bathed in sunlight, a slow, tender smile graced y/n's lips. it was a smile that seemed to radiate understanding and affection, a silent acknowledgment of the courage it took for danielle to bare her heart. their gaze softened, the walls that had once separated them now crumbling away to reveal a connection that had been quietly growing between them all along.
"i was hoping you'd ask," y/n's voice was a hushed whisper, a melodic admission that carried with it the warmth of their unspoken feelings. it was as if their words were a gentle embrace, encircling danielle's heart with the reassurance that she wasn't alone in her desires.
in that fleeting moment, the barriers that had held them back dissolved, and the distance that had once separated them felt like a trivial detail in the grand tapestry of their connection. danielle's heart swelled with a mixture of relief and exhilaration, her gaze locked with y/n's as if they were sharing an intimate secret that the world would never fully understand.
and then, as if guided by an invisible force that had been waiting for this very moment, their lips met in a kiss that felt like a revelation. it was a kiss that held the promise of all the unspoken words, all the stolen glances, and all the shared moments that had led them to this precipice. their lips moved against each other's with a tenderness that defied the weight of the world, a delicate dance that spoke of newfound intimacy.
as they pulled away, y/n's eyes sparkled with a mixture of affection and amusement. "worth the wait?" they teased.
danielle's cheeks flushed, and she nodded, her heart singing with newfound joy. "definitely."

the compact car's interior was charged with an unmistakable tension— so thick it seemed to suffocate the space. y/n's fingers danced lightly on the steering wheel, each tap betraying the unspoken frustration between them. the engine's gentle hum only served to underscore the emptiness that engulfed them. it was an orchestra of discontent, performed by a couple on the precipice of an argument.
beyond the car's windows, the passing landscape blurred into an abstract painting. the steady movement of the car contrasted sharply with the tempest brewing inside its confines. an argument had erupted earlier that morning, sparked by a mix of miscommunication and stubbornness. canceling the meticulously planned camping trip was on the verge of becoming a regrettable reality.
hanni's sullen form slouched in the back seat, her gaze fixed on the world outside, but her mind seemed adrift in her own thoughts. her posture betrayed a silent protest, an armor of resentment guarding her emotions. y/n, as the driver, glanced at hanni in the rearview mirror, exhaling a heavy sigh that spoke of exasperation tinged with longing.
"can we just talk?"
in the stillness of the car, y/n's voice broke through the heavy silence like a gentle ripple on a tranquil lake. their words carried a mix of apprehension and a genuine desire to mend the growing rift between them. hanni's response was a wall of silence, a fortress of refusal to engage in conversation. it was a defense mechanism, a way to shield herself from the raw vulnerability that awaited if she allowed the words to flow freely.
y/n's knuckles tightened, the supple leather of the steering wheel yielding slightly to the pressure. it was as if they were trying to hold onto something tangible, to ground themselves amidst the emotional turbulence. their breaths came in shallow, unsteady rhythms, each exhale carrying the weight of unspoken feelings.
in the distance, a meandering stream sparkled like liquid diamonds, caught in the embrace of the waning sunlight. its gentle ripples whispered tales of resilience, a timeless dance that mirrored the ebb and flow of life's currents. outside, tranquility reigned as if nature herself had painted a masterpiece, a serene symphony of colors and textures.
yet, within the car's intimate confines, a different melody played—a storm of emotions gathering momentum, like clouds heavy with unspoken words. the world beyond the windows remained blissfully unaware of the conflict brewing within, its beauty a stark contrast to the emotional struggle that had taken root, silently threading its way through the hearts of the two souls on this uncertain journey.
y/n glanced briefly at hanni, her profile etched with tension and guarded emotions. they saw a glimpse of the vulnerability that lay beneath her defenses, a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. it was a tender vulnerability that mirrored their own, a shared yearning for connection amidst the barriers that had risen between them.
"i don't want to fight," y/n spoke again, their voice softer this time, like a gentle breeze rustling through the leaves outside. "i just— i just want to talk,"
hanni's grip on her emotions tightened, her silence stubborn and unwavering. it was as if she feared that any words she spoke would shatter the fragile peace that barely held their hearts together. the tension inside the car was palpable, a delicate balance of emotions that hung like a delicate thread, one that could snap at any moment.
y/n's heart weighed heavy with the unspoken words that lingered on their tongue. as they parked the car in the secluded camping ground, a deep sigh escaped their lips, dissipating into the crisp air like a wisp of smoke. the tension from the car's interior seemed to linger, a subtle reminder of the emotions left unresolved.
hanni wasted no time, stepping out of the car and striding ahead, the distance between them widening with each step. y/n hesitated for a moment, taking a deep breath to steady themselves, before following quietly in hanni's footsteps. y/n watched her silhouette recede, feeling a mixture of reluctance and determination welling within. with a deep breath, they swung the car door open, the soft creak breaking the lingering silence.
the campground stretched out before them like a vibrant tapestry woven by nature herself. the air carried a hint of earthiness, mingled with the faint aroma of pine. a gentle breeze ruffled the leaves of trees, creating a soothing melody that harmonized with the distant chirping of birds. the ground beneath their feet was soft, a carpet of grass and wildflowers that seemed to welcome their arrival.
hanni's figure was a solitary silhouette against the scenic backdrop, a lone figure standing at the edge of a tranquil lake. its glassy surface reflected the azure sky above, the gentle ripples casting dancing shadows that seemed to playfully waltz upon the water. a wooden dock extended into the lake, its weathered planks echoing the stories of countless moments spent in quiet contemplation.
y/n followed hanni's path, walking a few steps behind, their footsteps light as they ventured into the heart of the campsite. the landscape unfolded like a painting brought to life. wildflowers painted the ground in a vibrant palette of colors, their petals swaying in the breeze like a chorus of delicate dancers. tall trees stood as silent sentinels, their branches reaching out like welcoming arms.
as y/n stood at a distance, their gaze fixed on hanni, a bittersweet smile graced their lips. the soft sunlight cast a warm glow on hanni's figure, illuminating the gentle curve of her shoulders as she rummaged through her bag for her fishing rod. the air seemed to hold its breath, mirroring the delicate balance of emotions between them.
"i'll set up the tent," y/n offered, their voice gentle but carrying a hint of vulnerability. hanni's response was a nonchalant hum, her focus solely on searching for her fishing rod in her bag. the cold shoulder she gave y/n was like an icy gust in the warm summer air, stinging with a subtle rejection.
undeterred, y/n made their way to the campsite, the soft grass cushioning each step. the tent lay folded neatly, an unassuming canvas that would soon become their shelter under the night sky.
as y/n struggled with the tent's assembly, frustration surged through them like a rising tide. their hands trembled with the weight of inadequacy as they cursed under their breath, unable to suppress the growing anger at their perceived incompetence. "fuck," they muttered, the word escaping their lips like a sharp exhale of defeat.
the metal poles seemed to taunt y/n, mocking their attempts to align them correctly. each failed attempt chipped away at their confidence, and a voice in their head berated them for their perceived stupidity. "why can't i do this?" they thought, the self-doubt swirling like a relentless storm within their mind.
but despite their best efforts, y/n's attempts at assembling the tent faltered. the metal poles seemed to have a mind of their own, refusing to align and cooperate as they should. frustration crept in, an unwelcome guest to the intimate tableau that unfolded on the campsite. y/n's brow furrowed, fingers fumbling, as they wrestled with the stubborn contraption before them.
meanwhile, hanni had retrieved her fishing rod from her bag, her focus fixed solely on her own task. the tension in the air seemed to have created an impenetrable barrier between them, a distance that stretched beyond the physical space they occupied. her silence spoke volumes, a deliberate act of withdrawing from the connection that had once been their sanctuary.
y/n's sigh was a mixture of defeat and exasperation, a concession to their lack of expertise in tent assembly. their gaze shifted from the stubborn fabric to the serene lake, a momentary reprieve from the mounting frustration. the ripples on the water's surface seemed to echo the turbulence within their own hearts, a reflection of the unresolved emotions that had brought them to this point.
hanni's muttered grumbles continued, her determination unwavering even as her efforts yielded no results. her brow furrowed deeper, each motion precise yet fruitless. y/n watched her with a mixture of amusement and endearment, their laughter growing as they observed her persistence. it was as if the universe had joined in on the unfolding comedy, for just as they were caught up in the spectacle of hanni's fishing endeavors, the sky itself began to participate.
the first drops of rain fell, their gentle pitter-patter echoing against the backdrop of the campsite. the sound was a soothing prelude to the impending downpour, a melodic symphony of nature's elements. the sky, heavy with rain-laden clouds, had chosen this moment to release its captive droplets. with each raindrop that landed on leaves and grass, y/n's laughter slowly faded, replaced by a sense of wonder at the beauty of nature's orchestra.
y/n's gaze shifted upward, the raindrops refracting the fading light like a curtain of diamonds. the realization that they were about to be caught in the rain hit them, and a glance towards hanni revealed her own recognition of the impending deluge. without needing to exchange words, their eyes met, a silent agreement passing between them.
"hanni!" y/n called out, their laughter now replaced with urgency. "come here!"
hanni's gaze shifted towards y/n, her expression a mix of surprise and curiosity. following y/n's lead, she abandoned her fishing rod and swiftly made her way towards them. as the first raindrops started to cascade down, they both found refuge under a nearby tree, its thick foliage offering some protection from the rain.
the sound of rain hitting the tree leaves and the earth was a symphony in itself, a rhythm that enveloped them in its soothing embrace. y/n and hanni stood side by side, their proximity creating a sense of intimacy that was both comfortable and tinged with the awkwardness of the moment. the silence between them was heavy, a mix of shared amusement and unspoken tension.
y/n's mind raced, searching for a way to ease the tension that hung in the air. with a soft exhale, they turned to hanni. "this rain caught us by surprise, huh?"
hanni's lips quirked into a small smile, a hint of amusement in her eyes. "yeah, i guess nature had other plans."
the words hung in the air, and y/n felt the silence that followed like a heavy curtain. hanni's gaze remained fixed on the rain, avoiding the direct connection y/n was seeking. it was as if she had built a fortress around herself, a defense mechanism to shield her vulnerabilities from the world, and from y/n in particular.
as if sensing the opportunity for connection, y/n glanced around the area, spotting a cluster of branches and leaves. a sudden idea took root, and they began to gather the materials, their movements deliberate yet tentative. y/n's hands worked with a mix of determination and uncertainty, the leaves rustling as they constructed a makeshift shelter under the tree.
hanni, perhaps sensing y/n's desire to bridge the gap between them, joined in quietly. her fingers worked alongside y/n's, the sound of their combined efforts like a shared language. with each leaf placed carefully, the tension between them seemed to lessen, replaced by a sense of unity and purpose.
finally, the makeshift shelter took shape, a canopy of leaves and branches that offered some respite from the relentless rain. y/n and hanni ducked under it, their clothes already soaked from the earlier rain. the space was cramped, but the warmth of their closeness felt like a refuge amidst the storm.
as they huddled together beneath the shelter they had created, raindrops drumming softly on the leaves above, a sense of accomplishment washed over them. their faces were still wet from the rain, but the smiles that graced their lips spoke of a shared triumph. the awkwardness that had lingered between them seemed to dissipate, replaced by a renewed sense of connection forged through mutual effort.
the silence between them, now less heavy with tension, still held a certain vulnerability that they both acknowledged with silent glances. y/n's fingers traced the damp leaf's intricate surface, their gaze wandering along the pattern of raindrops. hanni, too, looked down, her focus on a small insect seeking shelter amidst the leaves.
taking a deep breath, y/n finally broke the quiet, their voice gentle but carrying a weight of sincerity. "i'm sorry about the tent," they admitted, their eyes still fixed on the leaf. "i should've been able to set it up properly, but..."
hanni's shoulders relaxed slightly, a soft sigh escaping her lips. she met y/n's gaze, a mix of understanding and acceptance in her expression. "it's not just about the tent," she replied, her voice equally gentle. "we both played a part in this... argument."
the tension that had clouded their interaction earlier seemed to have loosened its grip, leaving behind a space that was ripe for a real conversation. under the shelter they had created, a comfortable silence enveloped them, the rhythmic sound of raindrops on leaves a soothing backdrop. it was a moment that felt tender and fragile, like the calm after a storm, both outside and within.
y/n took another deep breath, summoning the courage to breach the emotional barrier that had kept them apart. hanni's gaze remained focused on the ground, a mixture of vulnerability and guardedness evident in her posture. the atmosphere was charged with a blend of apprehension and a desire to mend the rift that had emerged between them.
"hey," y/n started again, their voice soft and sincere, "i don't want us to stay like this, you know?"
hanni's lips parted, but she didn't immediately respond. the silence held weight, an acknowledgment that they needed to address the underlying issues that had brought them to this point.
"i understand that we had our disagreement," y/n continued, their tone gentle, "but i don't want it to define our whole trip. we've faced challenges before, and we've always found a way to work through them, together."
hanni finally looked up, meeting y/n's gaze. her eyes held a mixture of longing and uncertainty, as if she feared the vulnerability that lay ahead. y/n's words had touched something deep, stirring memories of shared experiences and the strength they'd drawn from one another.
"i'm sorry," hanni whispered, her voice nearly lost in the sound of the rain. "i know i let my frustration get the best of me earlier. i shouldn't have shut you out like that."
y/n nodded, a soft smile easing onto their lips. "i'm sorry too, for not being able to set up that tent. i was frustrated with myself, not with you."
hanni's shoulders eased, the weight of her own guilt beginning to lift. "we're in this together, right?"
y/n reached out, their fingers brushing against hanni's hand in a gentle reassurance. "always."
the simplicity of that word, always, held so much meaning, a reaffirmation of their commitment to face challenges hand in hand. the rain continued to fall outside, but within their makeshift shelter, it was as if the storm had washed away the walls that had separated them.
hanni's lips broke into a tender smile, a spark of playfulness lighting up her gaze. "so, about that tent," she began, her voice laced with a teasing tone that carried warmth.
y/n's laughter danced in the air, a genuine expression of relief at the shift in their exchange. "yeah, perhaps we'll have better luck once the rain decides to take a break."
as if in sync, their eyes turned towards the rain, watching the drops create ripples on the lake's surface. hanni's fingers traced an absent pattern on y/n's arm before she leaned her head gently against y/n's shoulder, finding solace in the simple act of being close. the rain continued its gentle symphony around them, a backdrop to the quiet moments that seemed to stretch, offering them the space they needed to rebuild what had temporarily wavered.
minutes passed, an unspoken understanding flowing between them. y/n's hand found its way to hanni's, their fingers interlacing in a silent promise. the rain outside may have been unrelenting, but beneath their shared shelter, it was as if the world had softened, cocooning them in a realm of their own.
as they remained nestled under their makeshift canopy, a feeling of peace settled upon them, a reminder of the unbreakable bond they shared. and in the midst of the rain's soothing embrace, y/n finally turned to hanni, their eyes locking in a moment of perfect connection.
"i love you," y/n whispered, the words carrying a depth of emotion that transcended the simplicity of their syllables.
hanni's heart swelled, the tenderness in y/n's eyes an affirmation of the love they felt for each other. a soft smile curved on hanni's lips as they met y/n's gaze, their voice a gentle echo of the sentiment that had been hanging in the air.
"i love you too."

as y/n began to make her way out of the gymnasium, her gaze fell upon minji, who was engrossed in a stack of paperwork related to her student council responsibilities. despite the clamor around them, y/n couldn't help but feel a magnetic pull towards minji. with a hint of breathlessness in her voice, she called out, "minji!"
turning towards the sound of her name, minji's eyes met y/n's, and a smile effortlessly adorned her lips. she paused in her steps, greeting y/n with a warm expression. the sight of her girlfriend, looking slightly winded but brimming with excitement, made minji's heart skip a beat.
"did you see the match?" y/n inquired with a charming grin, her eyes sparkling with excitement like stars in the night sky. with an air of playfulness, she flexed her well-toned muscles, basking in the afterglow of her team's victorious triumph. "of course, who else but kim minji's extraordinary girlfriend did the final blow and secured our win?"
minji's laughter resonated like a soft, melodious harmony, filling the air with warmth and affection. she gently shook her head, her eyes alight with adoration. "i'm afraid i didn't get to witness it firsthand. my duties as the student council president demanded my attention," she explained, her voice carrying a touch of regret.
y/n's playful pout emerged, a cute pucker of her lips betraying her feigned disappointment. "aw, you missed my epic moves. it was an unforgettable spectacle!" she exclaimed, her eyes shimmering with pride like diamonds catching the sun's rays.
minji's gaze softened with genuine admiration, and she reached out to tenderly brush a stray strand of hair away from y/n's face, her touch as gentle as the caress of a gentle breeze. "i'm sure it was. but even without witnessing it, i'm incredibly proud of you, y/n," she expressed warmly, her words a soothing balm to y/n's soul.
the genuine pride in minji's voice sent a surge of warmth through y/n's heart, making it flutter like a hummingbird's wings. she felt a profound sense of gratitude for having minji by her side, not just as a girlfriend but as a pillar of support in every aspect of her life. minji's unwavering belief in her abilities fueled her spirit and gave her the courage to face any challenge that lay ahead.
"you are?" y/n's face lit up like a golden retriever receiving a pat on the head, her eyes seeking confirmation of her worth from minji's affectionate gaze, "even though you didn't see it?"
minji's tender touch lingered on y/n's cheek, her fingers tracing the contours of her face with a gentleness that spoke volumes of her love and admiration for the girl in her embrace. "absolutely. kim minji's girlfriend is the pride of the volleyball team, isn't she?" minji affirmed with unwavering affection, her voice as soothing as a lullaby.
feeling a rush of emotion, y/n found herself instinctively wrapping her arms around minji, pulling her close in a warm embrace. the comfort of minji's presence enveloped her like a soft, cozy blanket on a chilly day, and her heart overflowed with love like a river bursting its banks. in a soft, sincere whisper, she expressed her gratitude, "thank you, minji. you're the best."
minji's smile held a special tenderness as she embraced y/n in return, savoring the warmth of the moment like a sunflower turning towards the sun. "yeah, yeah," she playfully teased, "now, enough about the match. where are you off to?"
y/n's face lit up with mischief as she intertwined her fingers with minji's, their hands fitting together like pieces of a puzzle, each completing the other. "well, as your loving girlfriend, it's my duty to accompany you wherever you're going," she declared with a twinkle in her eye, her voice a symphony of playfulness and devotion.
minji chuckled softly, utterly charmed by y/n's playful spirit like a butterfly drawn to a vibrant flower. "is that so? well then, i'm taking this paperwork to the faculty," she replied, her voice holding both determination and a hint of amusement, like a violin playing a lively tune.
with a playful grin that could rival the sun's radiance, y/n nodded with unwavering enthusiasm, fully committed to her role as minji's partner-in-crime. side by side, they strolled down the bustling corridor, the sounds of the school life fading into the background as they engaged in lighthearted banter and shared laughter, their laughter intertwining like the harmonious notes of a sweet melody.
as y/n and minji walked hand in hand towards the faculty, the school's buzzing atmosphere seemed to amplify. congratulations and greetings poured in from students passing by, each one eager to celebrate y/n's victory and bask in her radiant presence. while y/n gracefully acknowledged the well-wishers with a smile and a word of thanks, minji couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy gnawing at her heart. she knew y/n's popularity was well-deserved, but she couldn't help but wish for a little more private time with her girlfriend.
arriving at the door of the faculty office, y/n and minji found themselves in a quiet hallway adorned with colorful student artwork and motivational posters. the soft hum of chatter and distant footsteps created a sense of tranquility, a brief respite from the lively energy that usually surrounded y/n. as y/n turned to minji with a warm smile, her eyes shimmered with a deep affection that conveyed more than words ever could.
"i'll wait for you here," y/n said with a tender smile, her voice carrying a gentle undertone of consideration for minji's responsibilities. y/n wanted to offer minji the space she needed to complete her duties as the student council president, understanding how important her role was. however, minji, ever mindful of y/n's desires, had a suggestion of her own.
"you can go ahead to the cafeteria, y/n. i'll catch up with you shortly," minji proposed, her voice warm and reassuring. she knew that y/n loved spending time in the bustling cafeteria, indulging in the diverse array of culinary delights the school had to offer.
despite her desire to spend every moment with minji, y/n's thoughtful nature won over, and she replied, "no, i want to wait for you. it's not a problem, really." a playful smirk graced her lips, "plus, i could use a little break from all the attention. it's really making me nervous..."
minji's heart swelled with adoration for her considerate girlfriend. y/n's selflessness and willingness to prioritize their time together touched her deeply. the way y/n's eyes softened as she spoke, revealing vulnerability beneath her charismatic exterior, made minji's heart flutter with affection.
minji couldn't help but chuckle at y/n's lighthearted remark, finding solace in the familiar banter they shared. she felt a wave of love wash over her, knowing she had someone so caring and understanding by her side. "alright," minji agreed, her voice filled with adoration, "if you want to wait, then i won't take long. i promise."
in that moment, y/n's heart fluttered at the sound of minji's promise. she cherished these moments of intimacy, where they could be honest and vulnerable with each other. y/n squeezed minji's hand, before letting go slowly. as minji entered the faculty office, y/n leaned against the wall, feeling a mixture of butterflies on her stomach and fatigue from the mmatch
y/n exchanged a few more greetings with passing students, who congratulated her on the match, their admiration evident in their expressions. the glow of victory still illuminated her features, making her even more captivating in the eyes of her fans. each word of praise only added to the aura of charm that surrounded her. y/n graciously thanked them, but inwardly, she couldn't help feeling slightly overwhelmed by the attention.
as she waited, a group of enthusiastic freshmen spotted y/n from afar, their eyes widening with awe and excitement. they couldn't believe their luck at encountering the school's renowned volleyball captain up close. excitement bubbled within them, and their anticipation heightened as they approached her with eager smiles.
"oh my gosh, it's y/n l/n! you were incredible out there on the court!" one of the freshmen gushed, her voice tinged with admiration.
another chimed in, "yeah, we were cheering for you the whole time! you're so handsome when you play!"
y/n couldn't help but chuckle at the freshmen's endearing enthusiasm. she was flattered by their compliments and appreciated their genuine excitement. "thank you so much! i'm glad you enjoyed the match," she replied with a warm smile, her humility endearing her even more to the star-struck group.
the freshmen eagerly shared their favorite moments from the game, recounting how y/n's grace and skill had left them in awe. they animatedly discussed her powerful spikes, precise serves, and agile moves on the court. y/n listened attentively, their admiration and enthusiasm fueling her own sense of pride in her athletic achievements.
as the conversation continued, y/n couldn't help but inch back against the wall slightly, the crowd of excited freshmen unintentionally crowding her. while she cherished her fans and their adoration, she also longed for a moment of tranquility, a brief respite from the spotlight. however, her kindness and approachability didn't waver, and she continued to engage in conversation with the freshmen, ensuring each of them felt seen and appreciated.
in the midst of their lively chatter, y/n's thoughts drifted to minji, who was still attending to her student council duties. she yearned for the moment when she could reunite with her girlfriend, seeking solace in minji's calming presence. y/n loved her fans, but minji's love and understanding were what truly grounded her in the whirlwind of popularity.
as the group of enthusiastic freshmen continued to shower y/n with praise, their words became a delightful chorus of admiration.
"seriously, y/n, you're like the epitome of cool! your moves on the court were insane!" one of them exclaimed with wide eyes.
another chimed in, "i wish i could play like you! you make it look so effortless and elegant!"
y/n blushed, humbled by their compliments. "well, uh, thank you all so much! i've practiced a lot to get where i am, but it warms my heart to hear that you enjoy watching me play."
"enjoy? we were practically screaming our lungs out with excitement!" another freshman gushed, her excitement infectious.
"seriously, y/n, you're like a volleyball wizard or something! the way you control the game is unreal," one of the freshmen said in awe.
"yeah, and let's not forget how handsome you are! you've got all the girls swooning!" another added, giggling playfully.
y/n couldn't help but laugh along with them. "well, i'm flattered, really. but it's not all about looks; it's the passion for the game and the teamwork that matter most to me."
"passion and looks! you've got the whole package, y/n!" a freshman said with a grin, and the others nodded enthusiastically in agreement.
"can we take a picture with you? i want to show my friends back home that i met the volleyball superstar!" one of the freshmen asked excitedly.
"of course! i'd be happy to take a photo with you all," y/n replied with a warm smile, gathering the eager group for a group selfie. they huddled together, capturing the moment that would undoubtedly become a treasured memory for the freshmen.
as the group of freshmen finally got their picture with y/n, they continued to gush with excitement, their voices bordering on exuberance. they couldn't resist expressing their awe over y/n's looks and skills, each compliment seemingly louder than the last.
amidst the flurry of praise, minji emerged from the faculty office, drawn by the familiar commotion. her heart clenched with a tinge of jealousy as she saw the freshmen almost yelling their adoration at y/n's face.
suppressing the emotion, she approached them, gently taking y/n's arm and interjecting with a warm smile, "hey, guys, y/n is truly amazing, isn't she? but she needs a moment now, so why don't we give her some space?" minji tries her best to speak in the most calm voice, though her eyes were almost like daggers.
the freshmen, taken aback by minji's unexpected appearance, quickly complied, nodding eagerly. they understood the unspoken message that y/n was someone special to minji, and they respected that boundary.
minji led y/n away from the enthusiastic crowd, her fingers intertwining possessively with y/n's. as they walked, her touch conveyed both protectiveness and affection. the moment they were out of earshot, minji mumbled sarcastically, "they really adore you, don't they?"
y/n's laughter filled the air, a charming and infectious sound that warmed minji's heart. "yeah, they do," y/n admitted with a playful grin, her eyes dancing with amusement, "but don't worry, minji. you're the one who has my heart."
minji's cheeks flushed with a mix of bashfulness and delight, her heart fluttering at y/n's sweet words. "good to know," she replied with a soft chuckle, "i just can't help feeling a little possessive when everyone is fawning over you."
with a teasing glint in her eyes, y/n wrapped an arm around minji's shoulders, pulling her close. "jealous, huh? well, i can't blame them. you're dating the coolest and most handsome volleyball superstar," she teased playfully.
a playful groan escaped minji's lips, but her eyes twinkled with adoration. "but, even better! i'm dating the one and only kim minji, the student council president? the debate club and animal rights club member? the most prettiest and smartest minji in south korea?" y/n's words filled the air with charm and admiration, making minji's heart soar.
minji rolled her eyes playfully, savoring the affectionate banter. "you're incorrigible, y/n," she said, shaking her head with mock disapproval, a fond smile lingering on her lips.
"incorrigible? who the fuck even uses that word?" y/n laughed, the sound like music to minji's ears. she wrapped an arm around minji's waist, pulling her even closer. "but you love me anyway, right?" y/n asked, nuzzling minji's cheek affectionately.
minji pretended to ponder for a moment, before finally giving in with a dramatic sigh.
"unfortunately, yes," minji sighs, before pecking y/n's cheek. "yes, i do."

their first encounter was serendipitous, as if the universe itself conspired to bring them together. y/n stood before wonyoung's painting, her eyes locked onto the colors that seemed to whisper untold secrets.
with a nervous yet determined heart, wonyoung approached, her voice barely above a whisper as she introduced herself as the artist. "hey, um— i'm wonyoung—the artist behind this painting. is there anything you'd... like to ask about this painting? or some feedback would be nice!"
y/n's smile was like sunlight breaking through storm clouds, illuminating her face with a warmth that sent shivers down wonyoung's spine. "wonyoung, what a beautiful name," y/n replied, her voice soft and melodic. "your art speaks to me on a level i can't quite explain. it's as if each brushstroke holds a piece of your soul."
wonyoung blushed, feeling a mixture of bashfulness and exhilaration. "thank you," she stammered. "your words mean so much to me! i-i put a lot of emotion into my art, and to know that it resonates with someone else... is the greatest compliment."
y/n extended her hand, a gesture of friendship that felt like an invitation into her world. "i'm y/n. i'm new to this city from jeju and i came to this gallery looking for something that could speak to my soul. i think i found it in your art."
as they shook hands, an electrifying connection surged through wonyoung's fingertips, leaving her breathless with anticipation. she couldn't shake the feeling that their meeting was no mere coincidence, but a tapestry woven by the hands of fate itself. the bustling gallery around them faded into a mere blur as they delved into a passionate discussion about art, life, and the inexplicable forces that intertwined their paths.
y/n's eyes, like pools of liquid amber, held wonyoung captive, drawing her deeper into their depths. each word that flowed from y/n's lips was a symphony, each laugh a melody that resonated within wonyoung's soul. she hung onto every syllable, cherishing the way y/n's voice danced in the air, a sweet serenade that intoxicated her senses.
days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, as their friendship blossomed amidst the city's backdrop. wonyoung found herself yearning for the stolen moments, the stolen glances that held a world of unspoken longing. she reveled in the small gestures—a brush of their hands as they walked side by side, a lingering touch that sent shivers down her spine.
but as the days stretched into a delicate tapestry of shared experiences, wonyoung couldn't help but feel the weight of unrequited love settle upon her shoulders. the tenderness in y/n's gaze, the warmth in her smile—it was a language that wonyoung longed to decipher, a love that she yearned to be reciprocated.
in the quiet corners of her heart, wonyoung weaved dreams of what could be. she imagined stolen kisses beneath the moonlit sky, whispered promises in the hushed sanctuary of their shared secrets. she envisioned a future where their worlds would collide, their lives intertwined like brushstrokes on a canvas.
the seasons danced on, their footsteps echoing in tandem with the rhythm of wonyoung's heart. spring blossomed, painting the city with hues of pastel dreams, while autumn whispered secrets of change in the crisp air. through it all, wonyoung remained by y/n's side, a silent witness to the ebbs and flows of their intertwined lives.
'twas a cool autumn evening, as the leaves rustled underfoot, y/n and wonyoung found themselves strolling along the riverbank. the water shimmered like liquid silver under the moon's tender gaze, mirroring the shimmer of unspoken emotions that swirled between them.
y/n leaned against the railing, her eyes fixed on the horizon. "isn't it beautiful, wonyoung?" she spoke, her voice carrying a hint of wonder. wonyoung continued in staring at the oblivious woman. "it is," wonyoung replied softly, her heart fluttering like a thousand butterflies in her chest.
as they strolled along the cobblestone path, wonyoung's heart beat a frenzied rhythm, her every word and touch infused with unspoken longing. "y/n... there's something i've been wanting to tell you," wonyoung ventured, her voice trembling with vulnerability.
y/n turned toward her, eyes brimming with curiosity. "what is it, wonyoung-ie?" she asked, her tone a gentle caress against wonyoung's fragile heart.
summoning her courage, wonyoung whispered, "these stolen moments we share... they mean more to me than i can express. you've become the compass that guides my every step, the light that illuminates the darkest corners of my soul."
a gentle breeze carried her words, intermingling with the symphony of rustling leaves. y/n's smile remained soft, the flicker of recognition barely registering in her eyes. "wonyoung, you're such an incredible friend. i treasure our bond more than you know," y/n replied, her words painting a painful melody that echoed within wonyoung's chest.
yet hope, a cruel mistress, refused to relinquish its grip on wonyoung's heart. she convinced herself that y/n's response held a glimmer of reciprocation, a silent invitation into the depths of an affair woven with stolen glances and moments of intimacy.
their encounters became clandestine meetings, hidden from prying eyes, their shared secrets whispered in the sanctity of moonlit gardens. wonyoung, her heart awash with both joy and torment, surrendered herself to the rapture of their stolen kisses, cherishing each stolen touch as if it were the last drop of an elixir she craved.
but in the shadows of their affair, y/n remained oblivious to the depth of wonyoung's love. her affectionate gestures, once interpreted as signs of reciprocation, became tainted with the innocence of friendship, blurring the boundaries between what was real and what wonyoung desperately wished to be.
wonyoung sat in her studio, surrounded by the remnants of her artistic endeavors. the room was filled with the scent of paint and the soft strains of music that mingled with her thoughts. she brushed a streak of vibrant red onto the canvas, her movements betraying the turmoil within her.
yunjin, her wise and caring friend, entered the room, her presence offering a fleeting solace. she glanced at wonyoung's creation, a mix of vibrant colors and raw emotion.
she raised an eyebrow, a knowing smile tugging at her lips. "hey there, picasso. pouring your heart out on the canvas again?"
Wonyoung offered a half-smile, appreciating Yunjin's attempt at making the atmosphere more lighter. "more like trying to make sense of the chaos inside," she replied, her voice tinged with vulnerability.
yunjin settled down on a nearby stool, her eyes filled with concern. "you've been a little distant lately. is everything okay?" wonyoung took a deep breath, but remained silent. "... it's about that y/n girl again, huh?"
Wonyoung took a deep breath, hesitating before she spoke her truth. "It's Y/N. I can't stop thinking about her, Yunjin. Every time she smiles at me or brushes against my hand, it's like fireworks exploding in my heart. I want to tell her how I feel, but I'm scared of what might happen."
yunjin leaned forward, her expression serious yet understanding. "look, wonyoung-ah, i get that love can be a rollercoaster of emotions. but before you go pouring your heart out, consider if you're ready for the consequences. what if things change between you two?"
wonyoung sighed, her gaze fixed on her trembling hands. "i know it's a risk, but i can't keep this bottled up any longer. it's eating me alive."
yunjin reached out, placing a reassuring hand on wonyoung's shoulder. "i'm not saying you shouldn't go for it, but just be prepared for any outcome. and remember, your friendship is precious. you don't want to lose that."
wonyoung nodded, appreciating yunjin's straightforward advice. "you're right. i just wish i could know what she feels without putting our friendship on the line."
yunjin reached out, placing a reassuring hand on wonyoung's shoulder. "i'm not saying you shouldn't go for it, but just be prepared for any outcome. and remember, your friendship is precious. you don't want to lose that."
wonyoung nodded, appreciating yunjin's straightforward advice. "you're right. i just wish i could know what she feels without putting our friendship on the line."
wonyoung nodded, her heart heavy with the weight of unspoken desires. she watched as yunjin left the studio, leaving her alone with her thoughts. the silence enveloped her, and she found herself drawn to the canvas that stood before her—a painting of y/n.
the colors on the canvas danced with an ethereal grace, capturing the essence of y/n's spirit. wonyoung had poured her heart into every stroke, every brush of paint. in the painting, y/n's eyes were pools of stardust, a captivating glimpse into the universe she hid within. her lips curved into a soft smile that held a thousand untold stories. wonyoung had painstakingly spun the stars on her fingernails, each one a testament to the boundless dreams she saw in y/n's eyes. yet, despite the beauty she had immortalized on the canvas, it couldn't bring her the happiness she yearned for.
days turned into weeks, and wonyoung found herself lost in the depths of her emotions, yearning for a love that existed only in the fragments of her dreams. every stolen glance, every brush of their hands became a lifeline, fueling the fire that consumed her heart. but y/n remained blissfully unaware of the tempest brewing within wonyoung's soul, her gestures of friendship shrouded in innocence.
one evening, as the sun painted the sky in hues of fiery orange, wonyoung's phone buzzed, interrupting the solitude of her studio. a message from y/n flickered on the screen, inviting her to meet at their favorite cafe. hope surged within wonyoung's chest, intermingled with an undercurrent of nervous anticipation. little did she know that fate had prepared a cruel twist in the tale.
arriving at the cafe, the air crackled with a mixture of warmth and tension. wonyoung's heart pounded against her ribcage, its erratic rhythm echoing the storm raging within her. she spotted y/n, a vision of serenity amidst the bustling crowd, her smile a flicker of sunlight breaking through the clouds.
"hey," y/n greeted softly, her eyes holding a myriad of emotions as they met wonyoung's gaze.
wonyoung returned the greeting, her voice trembling slightly. "hey. what did you want to talk about?"
y/n's gaze flickered, her fingers nervously tracing the rim of her coffee cup. "i've been doing a lot of thinking, wonyoung. and i think it's time we stop... this."
wonyoung's breath caught in her throat, her world spiraling into chaos. she fought to steady herself, clinging to the last vestiges of hope. "stop what?"
y/n's eyes filled with regret, the weight of her words pressing heavily upon them. "our affair. i care about you deeply, but i can't ignore the fact that there's someone else in my life now."
time seemed to stand still as wonyoung's heart shattered into a million fractured pieces. the colors of the cafe faded, leaving behind a monochrome reality. she forced a smile, her voice strained as she tried to mask the devastation that threatened to consume her.
"someone else?" wonyoung repeated, her voice barely above a whisper, as if afraid to acknowledge the truth.
y/n nodded, her gaze shifting to the floor. "his name is yunhan. we've been spending time together, and i think it's time to give our relationship a chance."
wonyoung's eyes burned, but she refused to let the tears fall. she clenched her fists, the pain radiating through her like a searing flame. it felt as if the world had conspired against her, weaving a tapestry of longing and heartbreak.
"i'm sorry," y/n murmured, her hand reaching out hesitantly, only to be met with wonyoung's withdrawal. "i never meant to hurt you."
wonyoung forced a smile, her voice tinged with a mixture of acceptance and resignation. "it's not your fault, y/n. we... can't force ourselves to love or not love someone.."
as the café's ambiance whispered tales of love and loss, wonyoung felt a silent plea escape her lips, carried away by the currents of time. she knew she had to release the hold on her unrequited love, to let it drift away like a leaf on the wind. it was a bittersweet acceptance, for in surrendering her heart, she set herself free from the chains of longing, even as the ache lingered deep within her soul.
the days that followed y/n's revelation were etched with a sorrow that clung to wonyoung's every breath. the weight of her unrequited love bore down upon her like an invisible burden, suffocating the vibrant hues of her existence. the unfinished painting of y/n, a testament to the fractured fragments of their temporary affair, seemed to mock her from its perch upon the easel.
one evening, in the depths of her despair, wonyoung stood before the painting, her hands trembling with a mixture of anguish and rage. the colors that once whispered secrets of love now appeared to taunt her, their vibrant dance a cruel reminder of the shattered dreams that lay in ruins. she contemplated tearing the canvas apart, obliterating the memories that held her captive. yet, in the end, she couldn't bring herself to do it. the painting held too much sentimental value, encapsulating a chapter of her life she couldn't entirely let go of.
with a sigh that echoed with resignation, wonyoung picked up her brush and faced the canvas. as her strokes danced across the surface, she poured her heartache into every brushstroke, the raw emotion bleeding onto the space. it was an act of defiance, a silent rebellion against the pain that threatened to consume her. she channeled her sorrow into art, using the colors as a language to express what words couldn't convey.
her fingers traced the contours of y/n's face, a mixture of sadness and longing clouding her eyes. "why couldn't you see how much i loved you?" she whispered, her voice carrying the weight of unspoken words and shattered dreams.
years passed, and wonyoung's perseverance bore fruit. the painting, born from the depths of her despair, gained recognition in the art world. its haunting beauty touched the souls of those who beheld it, a silent testament to the pain and longing embedded within its layers. wonyoung's name became synonymous with a tragic love story, her art an expression of the human experience.
one fateful day, amidst the hallowed halls of a museum, wonyoung found herself drawn to an ethereal presence. her gaze fell upon a child, their innocent eyes fixed upon the painting that had become her legacy. the child's fascination mirrored her own, a reflection of the profound connection art had the power to forge.
wonyoung's heart skipped a beat as her eyes fell upon the child. in that fleeting moment, she saw the ghost of y/n in the innocent gaze of the young girl. a bittersweet smile adorned wonyoung's lips as she nodded in understanding.
lost in a moment of bittersweet contemplation, wonyoung's reverie was interrupted by the child's mother, her voice tinged with worry. "haerin, where are you?" she called out, searching the vast space.
startled, wonyoung turned to face the source of the voice, and in that instant, time seemed to stand still. standing before her was y/n, a ghost from the past, now adorned with the grace of motherhood. their eyes locked, the unspoken words of their shared history hanging heavy in the air.
"mommy! mommy! look! this painting looks like you!" little haerin pointed at wonyoung's painting as y/n carried the small girl.
in that poignant reunion, the weight of their unfulfilled love reverberated through the silence. wonyoung's heart trembled, torn between the joy of seeing y/n once more and the painful reminder of what they could never have.
y/n approached, her voice tender and filled with regret. "wonyoung, it's been so long," she murmured, her eyes brimming with emotions left unsaid.
wonyoung's voice quivered, her heartache blending with a fragile glimmer of hope. "yes, it has. i never thought i'd see you again."
y/n's gaze shifted to the painting, her expression a wistful mix of nostalgia and sorrow. "your art has touched so many lives, wonyoung. it's a testament to the beauty that exists within your soul."
wonyoung's heart tightened at y/n's words, her voice heavy with unspoken pain. "do you know, y/n? this painting... it's you."
y/n's eyes widened, disbelief and longing flickering within them. "me? but... how?"
wonyoung's voice quivered, laden with the weight of unrequited love. "every stroke, every color... they are fragments of memories, of the love that bloomed within my heart. you were my muse, my inspiration. and yet, you never knew."
tears welled in y/n's eyes as she reached out to touch the canvas, as if trying to grasp the intangible emotions that permeated the artwork. "i never realized... i never knew."
wonyoung's heart shattered into a thousand pieces, her voice filled with aching vulnerability. "i wanted to tell you, to show you how much you meant to me. but fear held me back, and our paths diverged. now, all i have left are these brushstrokes, a portrait of a love that was never spoken."
y/n's voice quivered with a mixture of sadness and resignation. "wonyoung, i wish things could have been different. but life has its own way of guiding us. i've found happiness in a different path, one that doesn't intertwine with yours."
wonyoung's tears mingled with the colors of her masterpiece as she whispered, "i'm glad... i'm glad you've found happiness, even if it's not with me."
the weight of their unspoken emotions hung heavily in the air, the gallery a silent witness to the tragedy of their unfulfilled love. time seemed to stand still as they stood there, caught between the echoes of what could have been and the reality of their separate lives.
with a trembling breath, wonyoung turned away, her heart splintered but resolute. the pain of letting go mingled with the knowledge that their paths were meant to diverge, like two shooting stars blazing across the night sky before fading into obscurity.
