So!! I'll just explain the au to you, so this might be rlly long

So um the au takes place after the events of the book, and Ponyboy is lowk going insane bc Dally and Johnny were 'haunting' him. Skinwalkers/mimics/entities that are pretending to be them and ponyboy is like HATING IT because these things just look almost like his friends and they just follow him around from a distance.

Due to how messed up Ponyboy probably was after the events of the book, These entities are just making Ponyboy worse. They're starting to make him schizophrenic and make him see things. They mostly follow him around at night or in the dark, or they follow him from a distance. All while they talk in his dead friend's voices and tell him how their deaths are his fault, and how they'd be alive if it weren't for him. So technically this is also related to the amount of concussions he probably had, like you mentioned, but it's kinda like these mimics are just targeting ponyboy and trying to make him worse.

So, yeah!! Just making ponyboy suffer mandela catalouge style

Pony constantly complains about his hair grease being missing and how it always ends up on the top of the fridge somehow. Soda and Darry both think it’s the other doing it.

Steve goes to work and finds all of his tools in the wrong spots, accuses Soda or Two-Bit every time but neither ever fess up.

Buck works on-and-off with cleaning out Dally’s old room, but always finds all of his work strewn across the floor.

The bookmarks in Pony’s books never seem to stay in the same spot.

After the fifth time Tim Shepard finds his tires slashed in a month, Curtis gang and friends all huddle around an Ouija board just for the hell of it. When they finally stop yelling at each other about purposefully moving the thing, it begins to shakily spell out a word. They all watch in horror and awe, until the words form—-
