So if you’re a dm like me, you probably want to be relatively skilled in some typical fantasy accents for your game to make things feel that much more real. So i’ve decided to throw together a little master post of “how to” videos on some various accents. Colin Morgan has announced his debut novel called “the ballad of Ronan McCoy” and from the description I’ve read it sounds like a queer love story about a boy who is in love with his best friend a popular jock who does unfortunately go missing but if that is not merthur idk what is.

I’m excited to read it, I’m excited to have Colin speak to us more about it and hopefully we get some interviews with him idk idk I just read this and I just felt like tumblr should know.

I was changing my crafter materia in FF14 and then noticed something strange. Suddenly my stats were LOWER?! What? I used higher materia, shouldn't it be higher? And thus I learned that odd materia are only meant for overmelding and that them having a higher number doesn't mean they are better. After knowing this, I changed all my materia and got my stats ready to do master recipes. But... I had no clue about this! Another thing in this game that I found out by pure coincidence!

One thing that kind of really bothers me about watching Sailor Moon in the 2020s (and outside of Japan), is how much context is missing. Sailor Moon was designed as a multi-media franchise and the information is distributed through multiple mediums that run along side each other. A lot of this media is no longer accessible. What's bothering me about this specifically is Tuxedo Mask's title is never established in the anime, but it was in the hero shows (live performances put on in public areas like malls).

Tuxedo Mask's title is a "tuxedo-wearing pretty guardian of love and beautiful people", but this is never really established in the anime. It just kind of expects you to know this already from the hero shows. This becomes an issue when people watch Sailor Moon today, in English, and Tuxedo Mask makes his speech about something like "protecting beauties". Viewers misinterpret it as him being a ladies' man when I'm pretty sure it's gender neutral most (if not all) of the time and literally his job as a guardian.

It also probably has a lot to do with why he waxes eloquent about the beauty of the objects, places, or people that are currently under attack. They have to be within his area of protection. (It's also why he has a tendency to bring up how the thing he's protecting "helps people be beautiful". Viewers who hear this without context oftentimes assume he's being shallow or sexist.)

He seems to be a guardian of beauty in the sense of the artistry of beauty, with the technique and discipline that go into it. Meanwhile, the beauty Sailor Venus protects refers more to attractiveness and natural good looks. This makes sense for a guardian based off, well, Venus.

(Edit: this is a big part of the reason he's so perpetually graceful and elegant once transformed too :>)

This is an absolute religious experience that I was not prepared for

yesterday in economic botany we were learning about plant based oil compounds and stuff and my botany professor was talking about lynn seed oil, which in woodworking is rubbed on over furniture as a varnish. this oil has an exothermic chemical reaction with oxygen, meaning that the reaction creates heat. what often happens, apparently, is that woodworkers will finish rubbing on the oil with a rag and then will ball up the rag and throw it away, but because the reaction is taking place and the heat can’t escape (like it would on a piece of furniture where it can be cooled) it gets trapped in the rag, which gets hotter and hotter until it reaches the temperature where it bursts into flame. apparently many woodworking shops have been burned down by this. the proper way to dispose of rags with this oil is to hang them up on a clothesline, so again the reaction never gets enough heat to start a fire. im telling you this because im a writer and ive never heard of substance that will just…spontaneously combust conveniently like that so long as it’s in a confined space. my botany professor tried it in a trash can in his driveway and it did indeed burst into flame after 45 minutes, which is an exceptionally convenient time delay. im sorry im tying this so fast my laptop is on 2% battery and theres no outlet an
