actually gonna ramble abt tetherverse + sequel below w/o tagging so it can be buried. if anyone remembers this when the sequel gets posted to ao3 then uh oops sry. don't read if you want a blind surprise ig

I PULLED UP THE OUTLINE DOC that's kinda partially backwards-outline and other part extensive notes on everything ever. descriptions of clothing for disguises, pkmn team lists, short descriptors for the main and supporting cast, all the 'clues' scattered thru the story to solving ace's murder, EXTENSIVE notes on each of the sevii islands and what gets changed for tetherverse, and 'past' notes that detail ace and sabo's travels around the globe.

law and luffy's side of the story still only takes place on the sevii islands bc they're exploring luffy's home region. sabo on the other hand gets worked to the bone all over kanto.

took inspo from pkmn ranger SoA and the mind-control soundwaves they produce from machines. in tether it was v impt to me to not put anyone in a position of power bc i wanted to separate the plot and cast from having that kind of notoriety and also didn't think it necessary - it was basically a travelog that branched into breaking up a trafficking ring. in the sequel it doesn't work like that, because the point is that this whole conspiracy is being orchestrated by ppl with power. of course the e4 are the enemy. of course they're the admirals. the only surprise pick is vp.

also vp!!!!!! still a scientist with seven personal assistants for seven different areas of study. goes missing at the start and sabo has to corroborate with all six to get anything done and push closer to the truth. interpol gets involved. sabo becomes interpol at the very end and finally finds what he wants to do with his life.

also poor sabo :( he's in the hospital for long enough that he convinces ace to continue their 2nd circuit thru kanto without him, and that he would catch up later. gets outta the hospital just as ace leaves cinnabar bound for viridian, and then ace's body is found on the far side of mt. silver, so very, very far from his destination. found decaying at the base with striker's mega stone smashed to smithereens and the only reasonable conclusion the authorities can drive is that he tumbled down while scaling the mountain. sabo blaming himself so much because he wasn't there to keep ace out of trouble.

before they travel around kanto for ace's second try at the indigo league, they're both in galar for a hot minute after ace gets invited to participate in the league challenge. this is where sabo's starter, his venusaur, ends up getting sick and dying. he spends a lot of time out in the wild area, absolutely heartbroken w/o a cure to fix him. captures his first non-dragon type that happens to be a volcarona. also captures a bagon that becomes his mental support buddy while the pair are in galar - something he can focus on, someone he has to take care of bc the pkmn rarely cares for itself. it's cathartic.

when ace dies sabo leaves for kalos because he views it as the last region he and ace journeyed through where everything was okay. before galar and venusaur. before kanto and striker and ace. sabo doesn't know how to exist without ace. dragon finds him and harbors him for a week and then kicks him out to travel the region on his own with only a single fennekin on his team. this is sabo's start at forming a fire-type team and also his first venture to learning to survive without ace.

also its still weird on me to reflect back on the influence tether has had?? started the outline in september 2018 and published it all feb-mar 2019. its been out for a HOT minute. i dont think ppl realize how many elements that featured in tether are so mainstream when considering op aus in a pkmn verse. or, a better way to word that: i don't think ppl realize how many "common" ideas come from this one long fic posted over five years ago.

sabo getting ace's starter pkmn after ace dies is from tetherverse. i'm so glad ppl like it enough to carry it on for this long but lmao that's where it comes from. that's shit i completely made up for a one-off lawlu fic!! it's so euphoric like i am in no way upset tether's legacy has outlived the hype abt the fic itself. it's just funny (and endearing!) for me to see pkmn au headcanons for luffy or sabo or law or whoever and very starkly be able to point out which came from tetherverse.

i had the basics of ace and sabo's travels established while i was still outlining part one of tether. some of these ideas that will be in the sequel are ideas i've had for OVER five years now. ace dying in a freak accident and sabo claiming ownership over his charizard. striker being the one to give sabo all his burns so their relationship is tense but when they do eventually fully trust each other they're able to mega evolve into mega x (contrasting ace's mega y to show that striker is now 100% sabo's pokemon). them living near mt. ember and ace dying at the base of mt. silver and the whole "call of moltres" that causes so much more fiasco than necessary. sabo's starter dying while him and ace are abroad and sabo morphing into a fire-type trainer after ace dies and sabo having to fight and fight and fight to solve the mystery behind his brother's murder because the world will not let him just die already. it's taken so long for him to recover, to get used to ace no longer being around to support him, and now he has to feel that same raw pain of loss for every time he's almost killed when venturing too deep into something bigger than he is or ever will be.

when the sequel comes out i rly want tetherverse to be thrust into the limelight again no matter how shortly. it's not like i need acknowledgement but i think it would be so cool for ppl to connect the dots and go 'oh!! so that's where that came from!!!'

you ever see a pitch for a project and think 'man ppl rly will make a zine for anything these days'

specifically for-profit projects that you have to make a certain amnt of sells to produce. i first noticed during one of voltron's final seasons when the immediate turnaround was to make a super big zine on the rarepair of one of the (many) new side characters and lance. and that was the first time i saw any fan project for that ship. a full-scale production zine. not hosting an event or ship week or challenge or whatnot, it was all zine or nothing.

and of course it didnt' go through, because not enough ppl shipped it to want to apply and even less wanted to buy for it. the ic was met w horrible results to want to continue with it. that's rly the first time i realized how much zines had taken over fandom spaces. in a negative light. idk what the obsession is over any other fandom event but its def gotten worse as the years have gone by which is sad. i'll see announcements for zine projects on my dash and think is there really enough of a target audience for this to sell well???

Spade Pirates’ First Mate Sabo AU

Except Sabo and Ace both don’t realize it’s each other because Sabo still has amnesia and Ace can’t recognize Sabo after 7 years because of the mask

This came from the writing prompt someone gave me of Sabo and Deuce interaction and once I got thinking about them I was like. There’s too many parallels. And couldn’t stop thinking about it

In this AU Sabo doesn’t get saved by Dragon, washes up onshore on Goa before he dies, and survives to set sail again a week or so later, but still has amnesia. Realizing that sailing alone as a ten year old is pretty unfeasible though, he stops sailing after the first few islands and lives as a feral forest child on his own for the next seven years until he feels ready and strong enough to try again.

He chooses his own name, Tage (pronounced taj), based on the assumption that Sabo is his last name and his belongings are too ruined to read his given name :) credit to whery for the name pun idea it’s absolutely genius

I might do some short comics for this if I ever get around to it but for now it’s just a loose collection of ideas!

it is my FAVORITE thing in the world in this fic to edit out any slang or coined terms from a character's vocabulary and have them be so clueless (and unwilling to admit it) when someone uses such slang/terms at them directly. peak dry comedy. what do you mean you don't know what "wanna hang out" is implying.

it is my LEAST favorite thing in the world to have to change all these american idioms i use w/o thinking to match the country+culture the fic is set in. especially when i edit after being awake 30+ hours and have no energy nor desire to dig through a translated idiom/proverb list to try and come up with an equivalent phrase. hell on earth. want someone else to do it for me.

created hourly things to do so i get basic tasks done around coursework n writing stuff today. i did the 10am one (a phonecall i got returned before 1p) and then kept writing past 11, 12, 1, its now 2p and i was supposed to have eaten by now and also started uni stuff twelve minutes ago. i am still at this open doc. i haven't even written since 2-ish bc i finished the scene and have been trying to convince myself to move on (i got up and got water and here i am again). these hourlies were supposed to be quick things to do in like 10m then i could do whatever for the remaining time but aaaaaaa i got so sucked in i couldnt stop which i should have expected to happen. either way its past 2 and i need to be moving on to uni stuff rlyyyyyyyyy bad and then here i am. ranting on tumblr instead

i need ppl who follow me to realize that kuro/shitsuji is like lolita to me. i enjoy it inside of a very limited viewpoint. lots of parts make me very uncomfortable because there are certain elements that are supposed to alarm and disgust the viewer. if you hold the opposite reaction then that's on you and idc as long as you don't shove it in my face.

my feelings on the content have changed so drastically since reading the blue dream arc. I don't even ship ciel w lizzy anymore primarily bc of manga reasons and secondarily bc I don't want to think abt ciel in like a romance-able context bc all (most) of his options are older than him. lizzy is only a yr older but im still like hmmmmmmmmmmm no no thank you. terribly consequential bc I love yana and the series and the writing and the direction but to see all the darkest parts and know them so deeply. bb has always been a cautionary tale of sorts but even more so in recent years.

i know it has flack as a whole for being the series with c/s/a but I don't think ppl realize that it's done in a way that does not romanticize the concept one but. the entire blue dream arc is a nightmare start to finish and it's to put things into perspective. the other thing it gets flack for is the god what's the word..... baiting maybe??? the insinuations with sebastian and ciel that is all ppl who know nothing abt the series seem to see it as. that's fine it's whatever, it's absolutely not the truth but I could care less abt what ppl who know nothing abt the series think of it. it literally doesn't do anyone harm to romanticize it. is it true????? absolutely not no again bb as a whole is a giant cautionary tale a la lolita. to me. their relationship is so predator/prey and that's all I'll ever view it as. is it endearing at times? sure that's how it's meant to be portrayed. is there ever any doubt that these 2 absolutely hate each other and are only using the other as a means to an end?? not at all no doubt whatsoever. the character connections and overall plot are the series' strong points, but by and large I will always view it as 1800s england throwing every possible curse it can into the face of a 12yo boy.
