Chapters: 3/? Fandom: Mortal Kombat - All Media Types, Mortal Kombat (Video Games) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Relationships: Ashrah/Syzoth | Reptile Characters: Syzoth | Reptile, Ashrah (Mortal Kombat), Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Liu Kang Additional Tags: Canon-Typical Violence, canon-adjacent AU Summary:
Starting from when they first meet, Syzoth is taken aback by how much Ashrah looks like and sounds like his wife he just discovered was dead. Part of him was compelled to look inward and wonder if his own grief is playing a part in this, if he is perhaps hallucinating his wife’s ghost. The longer he interacts with Ashrah, though, the more he suspects that there must be a connection between the two.

Writing whining below
Tumblr media
I have some stories where the outline works great. It's how I wanted it from start to finish.
And then there's, for whatever reason, Sublimation and Deposition. Deposition feels like it has dragged waayyy more than it should have. Though now it feels like things are moving, so that's great. But now ALSO feels like it's all going to move too fast and collapse-crunch at the end.
stupid Smoke why can't you be like Rain? Rain's a good cooperative boy who knows his place >:[
That's a joke.
But for real Rain's story is going along JUST fine without any surprises or sudden turns or 'wait you accidentally created this fun problem for the characters that derails everything else.' Though watch me eat my words in a few weeks RIP
I mean I can force it to go back to the originally planned each chapter addresses an aspect of his past and internal conflict. That's not a problem and no doubt the "obvious" solution. But it getting away from me initially has made me be a bit of a diva about it. I just feel bad for really screwing up the pacing. Sorry readers :(
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk. I didn't break the transporters you can go home now it's okay I promise

At work: Excitedly plotting about the disaster that will be Cassan meeting the Shirai Ryu
When I get home and I remember how much more writing has to happen before I get to that point:

I want to like Havik the way fandom seems to enjoy him.
Sadly, I cannot because he sounds way too much like a guy I went to school with, and I am forced to rapid-relive every conversation I had with that guy whenever Havik speaks.
Screw you Tony it's all your fault I can't enjoy a random video game character!
PS - Also, Tony, your commentary game on Halloween was WEAK! You can't dunk on Reagan as president when the movie was made BEFORE he was president! You use that for They Live, you uncultured disappointment!

Way too many people on here simply enjoy being cruel and see it as a virtue as long as you say the Right Words and hit the acceptable targets.

I have a question for the fanfic writers among you: How do you treat your work in progress when a very similar story is put out there? Do you go on writing - in the spirit that everything is unique in its own way - or do you abandon the piece - in the spirit of preventing 'superfluous' contributions?
Let's add a further wrench into the process by saying the recently published work by another author, so similar to your own, seems so much better written than your own (granted we are always our own worst critics). Where do you go with that?
Maybe this is a question for readers, too. Do you mind reading similar works/story lines?
