Thinking about how my grandfather used to sit behind me while I video-chatted with my girlfriend and he didn't understand "video calls" and told me that watching the same show all day would rot my brain. he said he could see this happening because of how happy and bouncy I got while I watching it

Ok but this. This mindset can be applied to actually ANYTHING you do, and was very difficult for me to realize when I was younger. Do you want to make a video game? No matter how hard you try the first thing you make will always come out as a buggy mess. The second thing you make will be better. Do you want to learn to draw? Same thing. You'll stall a car the first time you try to drive one. The first time I played the trumpet I made sounds unfit for any human to hear. Seven years later I still make mistakes. I still miss notes. In my opinion the only way to make progress at your art is to fuck it up. And making mistakes is a beautiful thing

Truly I hate to do this to you all but; you can watch all the videos and read all the blogs in the world but you cannot learn to sew without at some point picking up a piece of fabric and fucking it up. No tutorial exists that will stop you at some point ruining this poor piece of cloth. The visceral act of holding a project and wondering where you went wrong is the only way to learn sewing; you cannot escape it. I’m sorry
