one thing i really appreciate about the locked tomb is how it's made clear in every single setting that every single character is under constant exposure to mold poisoning. like. canaan house? unbelievable amounts of mold. the mithraem? they're eating "necromantically preserved food," you cannot convince me there's no mold. i've just started nona the ninth and one of the first things they establish is that there's black mold in the apartment. it explains everything that happens in this series actually. every single mind-numbingly stupid or crazy decision that everyone has made is, quite simply, just the mold talking.

So I made an Alecto the Ninth bingo card.
By the way, Paul's BOE name is And Then a Plank in Reason Broke and I Dropped Down and Down A Trian n-Aill Oc Imbirt Ḟidchille My Heart It Pounds Yeah You Got Me.
[Emily Dickinson's "I felt a Funeral, in my Brain"; a line from the Táin Bo Cuailnge, Old Irish for "[he spent] a third [of the day] playing chess"; "Tik Tok" - Ke$ha]
Reason for short.

I think there’s also a connection between Harrow’s name and the Harrowing of Hell. It’s the term for the time after Jesus died, but before he was resurrected, when he descended to hell and, in Wikipedia’s words, “brought salvation to the souls held captive there since the beginning of the world”. Maybe it’s a reference to the 200 souls fueling her and a promise that eventually, she’ll bring them salvation. Or maybe it was a prophetic name that she would free Alecto. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s foreshadowing that in AtN, she’ll free all the souls trapped in the River.
Something that i've been biting my tongue about since literally page 11 of Gideon the Ninth, but that never fails to make me giggle whenever i pick it back up:
Harrowhark's name being, essentially, Behold: the horrors.
Harrow: to cause distress
Hark: listen or attention
Pelleamena and Priamhark really sat down and named their hard-won genocidal spawn Behold The Horrors and nothing could possibly be more on brand for this book or really the ninth house as a whole

Found a fence for Gideon Nav to fall on
(They’re hands holding daggers, but the whole thing is rusted to shit and covered in ivy. Very first House core)

Propaganda : Harrow is into the strong, silent type. Mostly blonde woman.

I keep thinking and like... I know there are a few different types of "Admiral", enough to have an Admiralty meeting, and that Cohort ranks appear to be based on the New Zealand navy but could be modified or hybridized a little, but I'm still like...
Judith's dad is the Fleet Admiral, right?
Do we think Sarpedon is Judith's dad or nah? Because I really really hope so, it has the potential to be so very fucking funny.

A thought. We’re all fantasizing about Harrow resurrecting Gideon, and it being very sweet and romantic and loving… but Harrow’s not the one who’s been studying resurrection theory.
Ianthe’s been studying resurrection theory.
Imagine if Ianthe is the one who brings back Gideon. Imagine if they have to rely on the second least trustworthy, second most dishonest, and absolute most conniving character in the series to get their happy ending. They’d never be able to trust it! Harrow would spend every day for the rest of their lives checking Gideon to make sure Ianthe didn’t do something horrible when Harrow wasn’t looking, Gideon would never be able to feel at peace with her body. And the worst part is that Ianthe wouldn’t even have to DO anything to make them paranoid for decades! And she’d think it was hilarious.

Since I crucified her and then impaled her heart in the last drawings she gets to hug Harrow as a little treat
Also I needed it coz I was this close to cry again while thinking about the second book. And I didn’t want to explain to my little brother why his sister was weeping at midnight.🤡🤡
