Important Announcement:

Hey, guys! I just wanted to let you all know that, due to some exciting life events that are happening, I'm going to be taking a short hiatus from posting.

Starting this Monday (June 24th), this blog is going to be largely inactive - with the possible exception of comments, asks, and queued posts.

This means that any open or continued collaborations - such as the GA: The Contest Chronicles series - will be put temporarily on pause until I'm able to get back to them. Hopefully that won't take too long, but I can't give a specific return date at this moment. I'll post an update when I know for certain.

***If you are currently taking part in a collaborative project with me and don't think you'll be able to continue after the hiatus, that's totally fine - please just send me a DM to let me know and I'll either write a work-around or we can decide on how best to do so together.***

As an artist and/or writer, what is one thing you think you do well? What is one thing you would like to improve on?

As an artist, I think I do a pretty good job of picking up on styles and imitating them. Some styles are a lot easier to grasp than others, of course, but generally speaking - I think it's a strong suit of mine. I enjoy learning the ins and outs of what makes a certain style unique and figuring out how to apply that knowledge in practice. I've also been told that expressions are something I do well, which...I don't know if it's an opinion I share, but I do really ENJOY drawing expressions. What I'd like to improve on - there's a whole host of things, but to name just one - scene setting. Not just drawing backgrounds, specifically (though that is a big one), but I'd love to get better at giving my art an atmosphere. Often it tends to be just character sketches in a grey void, because characters are what I'm comfortable with and what I like drawing most, lol. But scene setting is such an important skill, both in storyboarding and comics, so I'd definitely like to get better at that.

As a writer (or a storyteller), I think my strengths lie in conceptualizing and planning. I have...so many Word documents loaded with notes for my AUs, stories outlined beat-for-beat as though I'm writing them for an actual TV series instead of a tiny group of people on the internet, lol. I absolutely LOVE the plotting process, it's so fun to weave a story together bit by bit and figure out how all the parts connect. However, I could definitely stand to improve on the actual writing part of the process, especially where dialogue is concerned. I'm always more interested in what a character is thinking than what they're saying or doing, and it's a struggle to get that across in a way that sounds natural. But it's a topic that I absolutely love to study and hope to improve on over time.

As for taking requests - I don't officially? But you're always free to drop a suggestion in my inbox and I may or may not decide to do it. Sometimes I just need ideas for things to draw and suggestions from third parties can be very helpful.

Although, I will warn you that I'm currently pretty bogged down with IRL stuff and it may be awhile before I have the opportunity.

My brain literally would not let me rest until I got this out of my system, so here we are.

Okay, so - Future Donnie's canon design sure is a thing. I actually love the concept, mechanic aesthetic is great for Don, but I'm not crazy about the all-black waders/overalls they're just...they're a choice. Definitely a choice. So I figured it was time to update those old Future Donnie designs I made awhile back (which, surprisingly, weren't too far-off? I got the pants pockets right at least, lol)

Here are some of my own takes on the new look. I challenged myself to try and stay as close to the canon design's over-all (haha) vibe as I could, so they don't differ too drastically. Just a few alternative ways to do basically the same concept. For funsies.

***Zero disrespect intended towards Andy, for the record. He's giving us the content we've all been craving and he's the realest one for that! (Also, the overalls aren't that bad, tbh? I think it's just the all-black inking that makes them look kinda off in the preview image.) Still super excited for the full comic to finally be released AAAAAAAA!!

Quick announcement:

Regarding the on-going AU crossovers: although the TMNT AU comp that spawned the comics has ended (congrats to Empyrean Weeping and Replica for the totally deserved win, btw ❤), the plot is not yet wrapped up. And as I said before, I'm determined to finish that out before moving on completely.

Therefore, any threads that are currently active or have been planned in advance will still continue (as well as some ask responses that I've had saved in my drafts for sometime). But I'll be using a new tag for the series from here on out, to prevent any future confusion:

All TMNT AU Comp-related interactions on this blog will now be tagged/referred to as "GA: The Contest Chronicles"

(I'll be going in and adding this tag to the already-published posts as well, for convenience. All of the old tags will remain untouched, though, don't worry.)

Last week was my best friend @koilada's birthday and I held a private art stream for her, during which I sketched some of her (our) favorite ships! Because fwenship💕 Ships and the works that they're from listed below, in order of appearance:

*The Cassarian sketch is specifically in reference to a post-series spin-off that she and I have been writing together for some time now, which I might post more about in the future, we'll see.

It's been so long since I've attempted to draw most of these characters... My favorite thing in this entire set ended up being that Mateo, because I have not drawn him very much and I was fully anticipating him to come out looking so much worse than he did, LOL. (Side note: please forgive the missing hands, these were not meant to be finished pieces, just some relatively "quick" sketches)

Just felt like drawing some Leos from my Grown Apart AU. Specifically, I wanted to do some of the moments where his devil-may-care persona goes out the window. 'Cause as hard as he tries to make it seem like nothing ever bothers him, that's pretty far from the truth.

(Had to include Donnie in there, because the two of them are constantly getting under each other's skin when he first shows up, lol)

hi, I have another Shades of Purple ask for you. Do the brothers have any nicknames for each other? I know some aus have each brother give a different nickname.

Besides the canon ones - like "Nardo", "Angelo", "Raphala", or "Dontron" - you mean?

Hmmmm... I don't really have any new nicknames for them to call each other, outside of a specific context. Like I've said, this isn't really an "AU" so much as a concept for an episode (or, I guess, saga of episodes if you want to expand the timeline) within the show's canon. So, I mostly stick to what's already given?

However, if you happen to have any nickname headcanons that you personally like and want to use, go for it!
