Songs For The Week Of…

April 25th, 2022

To be honest, I don’t have much to say about this week's songs. They are all great in my opinion but I will say that the ones with descriptions are my favorite out of the list.

Although I was not alive when No Doubt was together, I still like them. Even though I mostly listen to their popular songs, I love Gwen’s voice over the ska instrumentals; I never would have thought I’d listen to or even like any ska songs but apparently, I do…

3. Curious by Franz Ferdinand

4. Pretty O.K. - Audiotree Live Version by Slaughter Beach, Dog

With Modern Baseball being one of my favorite bands, I, of course, have begun to like Slaughter Beach, Dog. SBD consists of Ian and Jake from Modern Baseball. I love Jake's voice, especially in their Audiotree Live session.

5. Hard Drive Gold by alt-j

6. Playing God by Paramore

Two words…Hayley Willaims; that’s it.

7. Keep Up That Talk by Prince Daddy and The Hyena

Before hearing this song, I was not a huge fan of PDATH because some of the vocals, I’ll be honest here, are hard to listen to but their newest album is more tolerable; I thoroughly enjoy it!

8. Lump by The Presidents Of The United States Of America

9. Naked by Bickle

This song is, simply, a groovy tune that makes me want to get up and dance. Enough said.

Songs For The Week Of…

April 18th, 2022

1. Welcome To Japan by The Strokes

All though they are an “older” band, The Strokes music is timeless. I did not know much of The Strokes until a couple of months ago; before that, I had only known their name. I chose Welcome To Japan as the first song on this list because of the it’s groovy vibes. From the vocals to the instrumentals, I love everything about this song. What I love most is the time stamp 1:33-1:48 in the song. For me, songs with those little “singy-songy talking” parts in between verses really grab my attention and make me love the songs even more.

2. Time by Pink Floyd

I honestly feel like I don’t even have to explain this one. I will say that I had just recently gotten into The Dark Side Of The Moon and I throughly enjoyed it….better late than never; instant banger!

3. Sleepyhead by Passion Pit

4. Kill The Director by The Wombats

5. Safe and Sound by Capital Cities

These next 3 songs (^) are to me, classics. Regardless of your music taste, I feel like these songs can be put on shuffle and everyone will dance. The beats and instrumentals throughout the song radiate endless good vibes. If I were to be the main character in a movie, these songs would, without a doubt, be on my “everyday listening” playlist.

6. High by Sir Sly

This song reminds me of my the summer of 2017 or 2018 (I can’t really remember LOL) when I would have to drive to Philly for my poorly paying summer camp job. I first discovered this song on ALT 104.5 and instantly fell in love with it. To me, when I put my earbuds in and listen to this song, I teleport back to that time and relive the moments stuck in rush hour traffic on the Walt Whitman during a hot summer day.

7. There, There by The Wonder Years

With a new TWY album or single in the works, I thought that including one of my “B-Song” favorites into the mix would “spice things up”. I had always liked TWY but have been listening to them more often this past year. I listened to this song many times on my commute back to school from Easter weekend. Dan Campbell’s voice is easily one of my favorites to listen to. It’s amazing.

8. Such Great Heights by The Postal Service

Ah The Postal Service…a song off of one of my all time favorite albums by one of my all time favorite bands…that sadly only has one album. The synths combined with Ben’s voice make this album and song, heavenly. 10/10 album, 11/10 song.

9. Is It True by Tame Impala

I am a lover of Currents by Tame Impala and own the album on CD. Great album, great band. I haven’t listened to much of their older or newest album but I do throughly enjoy this song; a nice song to get up and dance to, a groovy vibe.

10. Soul Meets Body by Death Cab For Cutie

Lastly, we have a classic Death Cab For Cutie song. My love for DCFC is not on the same level as The Postal Service, even though the lead of both is the same person, Ben Gibbard. Don’t get me wrong, DCFC is a good band with great lyrics, vocals, and instrumentals; but the synths of TPS really pull me in. Regardless, Souls Meets Body is a great classic.
