pt. 3 - "If you needed help, you could've just put your pride aside."
pt. one | pt. two

“If you needed help, you could’ve just put your pride aside.”
Alhaitham sat beside you, tissues and Tylenol in one hand, books in the other. There were no emotions on his face as he took out two pills for you and grabbed a water bottle from his bag.
The week of studying for mid-terms would've been amazing, even easy for you if it weren't for the horrible sickness you had gotten after a night out for drinks. That would explain the dizziness and headaches when you ran into Alhaitham. It has been halfway through midterm study week, and every day Alhaitham and you had scheduled time in the library... together.
Honestly, it wouldn't have bothered you as much if it weren't for the wet dream you had of him burned into your eyelids every time you so much as glanced at him.
In the library, sick as hell, you couldn’t help but notice his muscles. His arms flexed ever so slightly as he was caring for you. Even though his eyebrows were scrunched up, his eyes were still the same glowing soft teal. His abs prominent under his shir-
“Are you here to study or oogle at me until you die from a fever?”
Your face flushes, avoiding your gaze from him. There's no excuse for how you were borderline drooling over the man. Usually, you weren't this bold, but as of late (maybe due to the fever) you've been more and more bold. Especially with your little dream you had...
Your neck heats up even more at the thought of it. Quickly you take the pills and water out of his hand, instantly chugging the water and downing the pills.
"Let's, uh, just focus." You mumble, already opening a page of one of your many textbooks to study over. Alhaitham smirks at your response, observing the way your face heats up. Or maybe it was the fever…
"Do you think you could even focus with how hot you're burning up?" He leans forward, hands raising towards your forehead. Feeling his rough hands against your skin made you heat up even more, burning sensations going to your cheeks. You look into his teal eyes, almost a glow in them as he stares back, his hand still caressing your forehead.
Your heart picks up its pace, something about him hypnotizing, almost like it's drawing you closer. Maybe you didn't like him before at all, until now.
Cause he had never made your heart go so fast as it is now.
Alhaitham breathed out, "Yeah you're hot."
There's no way you could be any hotter, thighs pressing against each other. Maybe for some sort of friction or comfort. But one thing you did know was that you needed to end this before you got too carried away.
Alhaitham for some reason didn't mind being so close, nor touchy as of recently, almost like something within him changed, like he actually wanted to be around you. Or dare you even say, touch you.
But part of you just thought you were thinking these things because of your little fascination with him, nothing more. Just delusion. Even though deep down you knew you craved some sort of attention from him.
The library had this warm tone throughout it, barely anyone was there as it was already late noon. The both of you are seated in a secluded corner surrounded by the beauty that books hold. Books and papers are displayed everywhere, just the two of you together. It was almost intimate in a way.
You sigh out quickly and avert your eyes. "Alhaitham..." mumbling off, you turn your head to the side, trying to focus on a piece of paper and the racing pace your heart was going. "We should uhm, get back to this."
Alhaitham chuckled a little, the sound addicting. 'Gods, everything about the man is too much.'
He complies with your wishes, much to your dismay, and adjusts himself in his chair. Hours go by as silence ensues between the both of you, trying not to feel his burning gaze every so often. Every time he so much as glanced at you, you clenched your thighs or adjusted your position.
After the 7th time, you finally snap. "Why did you want to study together?"
Alhaitham's eyes quickly dart to yours, tilting his head a little as he leans on his hand. "If someone wants respectable work done, they choose someone competent. So that's what I did." Simplicity is his specialty by far.
You narrow your eyes a little, fidgeting with the hem of your shirt. "Mhm, because you definitely go out of your way to help a sick person as long as they're as competent as you." You laugh a little and roll your eyes, referencing how he brought water, medicine, and tissues for you ever since he found out you had gotten sick.
He's not convincing, it's almost like he tries to be more condescending when he's lying. You look up at him, a blank expression written on his pale complexion. You slightly wonder what's going on in his mind, what he thinks when he looks at you with nothing.
Meanwhile, Alhaitham was trying to come up with an excuse, his mind scrambling. This was all new to him, the feelings, the words, the out-of-character reactions. He didn't know what to do, but he did know that he still wanted to be around you. It was all so out of place to the silver-haired man.
And for one of the rare times for the smart-ass man, he admitted defeat.
"Touche."

Mid-terms had passed by without a hitch for the most part. Nothing out of place, nothing out of the ordinary. Things were going back to normal, Alhaitham had been busy with his little self-made projects, and you had been busy trying to make sure everything was in place for the next term. Both of you passed with the highest scores in each class, of course, and both of you moved on.
Winter break coming up afterward, it was nice to be halfway through the year already, getting closer to the degree and career. After mid-terms, it was like anything that took place between Alhaitham and you and never happened. Sure, you thought about him from time to time. Like when you went to the library, or to that one bar, the park. Just little places that in all honesty reminded you of him.
But you had to remind yourself that there was nothing to begin with, that Alhaitham was never one for romance, and he wouldn't start for you. At least that's what you thought.
And maybe that's why you had accepted a date from one of your fellow classmates over break, to branch off from Alhaitham.
Or at least try to.
A local cafe, small secluded, and cozy. Good for a one-on-one conversation and date. No distractions, nothing too uptight or expensive. Perfect, the ideal date scenery and scenario.
So why weren't you having fun?
Both of you sat across from one another, already ordering off of the menu, he had obviously wanted to start a conversation. But to your dismay, it was just idle conversation about the weather or how you looked.
Don't get yourself wrong, he was an attractive guy, dark hair with dark eyes, and chiseled features. Even his bright aura, and how smiley he was, were inviting, nonetheless. He was, and is, very attractive in your eyes yet, there was nothing.
You had tried to smile, at least wanting to give the guy a shot after all. But every time he'd drone on and on about some sport or activity, Alhaitham's eyes would come to your mind; his lips, slight smirks, even his aloof nature.
"H-hey are you there?" his voice suddenly spoke up, clearly trying to get your attention in some way. His eyebrows pinched, slightly leaning in closer to you. 'Shit I spaced out again.' You advert your eyes and look at your cup, laughing a little to blow it off.
"Yeah, I'm sorry I didn't get much rest last night." You say, trying to sound as convincing as possible, giving a half smile. He smiles back and shakes his head, still leaning towards you.
"It's okay, I totally understand. If you need anything just let me know..." Again, he smiles. And maybe he's just a smiley person, or maybe he wants something from you. "Well, do you want to talk a walk while we chat? It's getting a little stuffy in here." he proposed, already getting up to throw away any trash at the table. You look a little surprised and stand up, getting your coat and adjusting your skirt. "Okay..." you trail off as you both head out the door, his arm coming up and around your shoulder as you walk.
Uncomfortable. That's what you feel as you feel his arm around your shoulders. He was attractive, nice, friendly, and even caring. So why did you feel so uncomfortable? Everything should feel perfect, with the two of you walking down the street, him talking your ears off, arm around you. Maybe you just needed to get used to it, maybe you just needed to be around him some more and then the butterflies will come, and your heart will race.
At least that's what you told yourself.
Maybe he could sense something wrong as he suddenly stopped walking, retracting his arm from you.
It was silent, you turned his way a bit and waited; waited for irritation or questions to start spewing from the man's lips. But instead of words, he just got closer. Backing up, your back hits the side of a building. Your breathing quickens. You weren't scared, per se, but on edge.
"I don't know how you feel about me... Throughout our whole date, you seemed like you weren't 100 percent there, and that's okay. Whatever is on your mind I... I want to know. And be there for you." He gets closer, dark eyes looking down at yours. In front of you, he puts one arm on the building wall beside your head. Your heart quickens, 'What the fuck is going on.'
You clench your fists just in case anything happens. His face gets closer to yours, almost like he was trying to go in for a kiss. "But I... I just wanted you to know that I like you. A lot... And I want you to give me a chance." His face gets even closer, going in for a kiss. Your eyes start darting around, almost like you're panicking.
There aren't a lot of people on this street, looking around as you scan for an exit. It was almost like he planned this, making sure there weren't a whole lot of people around to see or interfere.
'This isn't what I want, this was never what I wanted.' You quickly press your hand against his chest, stopping his advancements.
"Listen you're- you're a good guy." You start to say as you try to calm your voice. "And you're very sweet, and kind and caring-"
"And that's why I think I'm good for you!" He exclaims, smiling and picking up your hands in his. 'This isn't going well.' You start shaking your head and chuckling a little, trying to come off as nonchalant. "No, I-I don't know. I'm just so busy with studies and my career that-"
Suddenly his expression changes to one of anger, "Then why did you accept my date in the first place?" You scramble to explain yourself, to try to not come off as rude as you are. The dark-haired man suddenly sighs deeply and pinches the bridge of his nose. "I should've listened to people when it came to you." You quirk your eyebrows at the man's statement, lips in a thin line of discontent. "Excuse me?"
He grabs your hands again and squeezes them a bit forcefully, coming even closer to your body as he breathes angrily. "I've heard so much shit about you. And I chose over and over again to deny every single one of those accusations. That you play with people's feelings, only and ever study your fucking life away. That you're a whore for that stupid mathematics major dude. Oh, Alhaitham was his name, the prick who doesn't even want you."
His words are laced with venom as he presses you into the wall even more, slightly getting more aggressive the more he talks. "And here I am!" he raises his voice, hands still grabbing your wrists tightly.
"Get the fuck off me, dude!" You yell, anger flashing in your eyes as you try to get your hands free from his grasp. He leans in more towards your ear, starting to whisper. "Here I fucking am trying to be the one person you need. The one person that actually might want your bratty ass."
Rage burns in your eyes as you knee him in the crotch, automatically having him crouching on the ground groaning. You scoff and make sure you have your pepper spray in hand. “Honestly if anyone knew you were such a fucking dickhead pervert I don’t think anyone would’ve gone out with you.” You start walking off, trying to find a bus station or something so you can go back home.
But then suddenly someone yanked you back into an alleyway, instantly covering your mouth. Panicking you immediately try to struggle against the person. Hands covering your mouth as your back is against the person's front, there’s no way for you to really see them. Your heart starts beating fast, hearing it inside your head. ‘Fuck, and I gonna fucking die?’
“Shh shh, hey it’s fine.” A deep voice says, clearly trying to soothe you. “It’s just me sweetheart, no need to worry.” You look at the person's arm, seeing the black gloves, and feeling a cold ring against your lips. Something clicks inside your mind. 'Alhaitham.'
Making sure that the man left, clearly trying to find you, Alhaitham eases up a bit. Wanting to wait a bit before removing his hand, wanting to make sure that you were safe. Alhaitham closes his eyes tightly at this realization, silently cursing himself for being such a fucking idiot.
A weight lifted off your chest, heartbeat already starting to slow. Seeing you calm down almost instantly, he slowly took his hand off your mouth and turned you around to face him. His eyes dart around your face for anything out of place. Caring. You look up at him, a sense of safety coming over you as you hug him. You didn't know what came over you, but honestly, you just needed a hug - this whole day had been stressful and scary as a whole. Shock comes across Alhaitham's face as you hug him, feeling your arms wrapped around him securely making him heat up. Until suddenly you push him.
"What the fuck was that earlier?" You suddenly ask, clearly angry with how he borderline manhandled you... (Not that you were really complaining.)
Alhaitham rolls his eyes at your transgression and sighs crossing his arms. "Not even a thank you for saving your ass. Typical."
Alhaitham wasn’t one for petty remarks. In fact, if anyone else had said something like that he’d just walk away. Not a care in the world. But maybe he had a soft spot just for you. How sweet.
You narrow your eyes and huff, "I didn't need your help. I'm very well capable on my own." You pulled my skirt down a little as it got frilled up and started to walk off. Until he yanked you, once again. You give him an annoyed look as his hand is still around your wrist. Looking up at him, you can tell the tips of his ears are red as he looks down at where you adjusted your skirt.
You scoff again and roll your eyes, "Pervert." His eyes snap to yours as Alhaitham turns beet red. "Listen, okay? I understand you're more than capable of taking care of yourself. It's just..." Alhaitham hesitates slightly, covering his mouth with his hand. "I was... Observing you." Your eyes widen, 'Oh so a pervert and now a stalker.'
He quickly takes your hand, "Not in a creepy way, I... I was just in the cafe when I saw the two of you." Alhaitham tries to look into your eyes, almost asking you to believe him. To not associate him with the man you went on a date with. He sighs out closing his eyes as his face gets closer to yours. "I got curious and followed you. I know that sounds creepy, but I was just trying to make sure you were alright."
"And why do you care?" Your heart starts racing again, not in fear. Nerves? Yeah, just nervous.
"I... I, unfortunately, don't know." Alhaitham chuckles a little, he never really expected himself, out of anyone, not to know something especially when it came to himself. Out of the ordinary.
In return, you chuckle a bit, "The Alhaitham doesn't know something?" You tsk and bring your hand to his cheek, eye contact very prevalent. "Never thought I'd see the day."
Maybe it was how close the two of you were.
Alhaitham suddenly leans in, glancing at your lips as if asking for permission. Your breath hitches as you gravitate towards his lips.
Maybe it was how scared you had been earlier on your stupid date.
Alhaitham breathes out shakily, swallowing. "Tell me to stop."
Or maybe it was the fact that you still had feelings for the silver-haired man.
Still cupping his face, you shook your head lightly, "Don't."
Or how hard his heart was beating.
Still in the alleyway, Alhaitham closed the gap between you two, one hand on your neck and the other on your waist. Pressing his lips against yours, he groans wanting more.
Maybe it was that Alhaitham was slowly falling in love with you, and that's why he decided to destroy it all.

Maybe it was that Alhaitham was slowly falling in love with you, and that's why he decided to destroy it all.

pt. 3 - "If you needed help, you could've just put your pride aside."
pt. one | pt. two
Tumblr media
"Touche."
Tumblr media
Maybe it was that Alhaitham was slowly falling in love with you, and that's why he decided to destroy it all.

pt. 2 - "That's stupid, kind of like you."
pt. one
Tumblr media
The deafening silence around the table was very prominent. A mixture of shock and disbelief was evident in the air. From what had come out of his mouth and the fact that he knew you.
Everyone knew Alhaitham was never the social type, so for him to so bluntly and almost easily confront you was… out of character.
To the Gods, he made your blood boil. His snarky remarks, his cocky attitude, his attractive little smirk- wait.
Just that thought made you snap. No way in hell would you be interested in him again.
"That's stupid, kind of like you."
The bluntness dripping from your words made Candace gasp a little, and almost everyone's eyes widened. All except Alhaitham.
Tighnari started to speak up, ear twitching a little “Hey let’s calm down-“
"And why do you propose that?" A challenge, the eyebrow raises, and a hint of a smirk. Teal eyes having a hint of a spark in them. “Unless you’re just saying that for whatever ideology you have for yourself.” This was a challenge.
"Well, for instance, not everyone can constantly take care of themselves. There is always something scrutinizing our bodies that we will have to handle and take care of. If we were to, and I quote you, 'properly take care of ourselves' then there would be no time left for anything else." You raise your eyebrow back at him. Challenge accepted.
"Now you'll probably wonder, 'What things do we have to do that take up so much space and time'. Proper routines including hygiene, sleep patterns, dietary concerns, exercise, intellectual needs, and well... sexual needs." Tighnari choked on his drink at the last bit.
"Oh, sorry, I was just trying to be specific." Trying to feign innocence, you smirk a little, observing Alhaitham's face carefully. The tip of his ears was slightly red, only the faintest hue. 'Gotcha.'
Alhaitham beats his eyes to the side, face not showing any hint of discomfort... minus the heat creeping up on his neck. "That's a bit unrealistic."
"For you?" You quipped back, hand under your chin leaning on it looking fondly up at him. A satisfying smirk sneaks onto your face. His stare hardens just slightly, the urge to wipe your smirk off your face was ever the more pronounced. Cat catching his tongue, Kaveh cleared his throat, his face having the faintest hint of red. "So, anyone up for drinks?"
Tumblr media
An hour or two passes as everyone sits around the table chatting away. Cups of beer poured, dishes served, Cyno’s card game played. Even if Cyno was competitive and barely trying to win, it was all calming.
Everyone was in their own conversations; games were being stopped and drinks were being poured. For a social gathering, it was actually nice.
Until it wasn’t.
“So you know Alhaitham.” Cyno said quietly to you, everyone too involved in conversations to notice. It's not a question, more of a statement: a matter of fact.
Irritation slightly increased at the question. ‘People always wanting to get personal, hmm?’ Internally sighing, you clear your throat, “I suppose you could say that.” You tapped your cup lightly - a little on edge.
“Well, he clearly knows you and, well, maybe a little interested.” He said with a little laugh. You raise an eyebrow at his words. “What is that supposed to mean? The only thing Alhaitham finds interesting is books and music.” You snort a little and take a swig of your drink.
Cyno snickers a little at your statement. He leans in a bit, subtly. “You think he goes out of his comfort zone like that?” You eye Alhaitham as you listen to Cyno.
Alhaitham’s teal eyes observed Kaveh and Dehya’s conversation, only rarely throwing in a remark about Kaveh to, well, Kaveh.
The teal-eyed man was hard to understand, to say the least. He was straightforward, cocky, prideful, quiet yet loud in his acknowledgment, sly, and always having ulterior motives... It was almost like he was backwards.
And with this conclusion, you've strung up by yourself, you thought back to when you first noticed him, thinking he was one of the most capable options for a partner... But maybe you were wrong.
“Okay maybe he doesn’t, but for what it’s worth, it’s worth nothing.” You replied, taking your eyes off the silver-haired man and onto Cyno. “Once he’s intrigued, he’ll quench his thirst somehow.” Ironically you take a drink of your beverage.
Cyno pauses for a while, trying to decipher what you’re thinking, or maybe feeling. Suddenly interrupted, Kaveh stands up, being his extravagant self once more.
''I just wanted to thank everyone for this get-together, it's been more than enjoyable..." Kaveh looks to the side to Alhaitham, a grim expression on his face. ".... almost at least."
Everyone laughs or chuckles, and you give a little snicker as the silver-haired man rolls his eyes.
"NOW LET'S GET WASTED!"
Tumblr media
“Heh… you like that?”
Heavy pants fill your ears. His deep voice. His strong arms. Hot. That’s all you felt along with his touches against your skin.
"P-please..." you mumble, moaning ever so softly as he trailed his lips down your neck. Hickies littering your neck. Hands gripping your hips, trying to keep you from squirming. Your hands come up to his hair, slightly tugging his locks.
And by the Gods, his groans were just making you wetter. Trying to clench your thighs at the noise yet he made sure they stayed open.
"Patient." His glowing teal eyes teased, whispering as he went lower. Demanding, wanting, needing. His hands tugged at your skirt, teasing you. You moan out again, louder. "F-fuck..."
"C'mon, I know you can do better than that sweetheart." His breath on your neck, kissing you lower to your cleavage. Biting down on your neck, you yelp a little, the pain going straight to your core.
"Al-Alhaitham!"
The alarm blares into your ears as you shoot up, breathing heavily and sweat against your skin. A mess, you could already feel it between your legs.
Did you just... have a wet dream about Alhaitham?
You groan a little, shutting off your alarm and slamming yourself back on your bed. Closing your eyes, the dream almost inked in your head...
'Fuck.'
You opened your eyes, hands already tugging at your hair in frustration. "Fuck me." You look to the side to check what time it was. 7:45 am. "FUCK!"
Running around your place, you hurry to get your shit together. You're late. "DOUBLE FUCK!" You scream brushing your teeth while putting on socks.
You were never late, never. Even when you were sick with the flu and quite literally dying in the back of the classroom, you still attended. You were almost at the top of the class, having Alhaitham and you compete for the top of course. You believed there was no time for dilly-daddling or slacking for your goals and future. And it doesn't help that you didn't feel the best waking up this morning. Maybe it was the dream...
In a hurry, you try to remember what the hell happened last night. Bits and pieces are a bit fuzzy, but still some moments that aren't. 'Took a couple of shots with Kaveh... Ate a little... Took more drinks? Uh...' Putting a product in your hair, you grab your bag and put your hair up quickly.
'Candace and Dehya leaving with Layla... Tighnari left afterwards I think...' You start sprinting across the streets of Sumeru, trying to get to your class as fast as possible. 'Fuck... Alhaitham and I walking towards my house?'
Eyes widening at the realization, and not paying attention whatsoever, had you crashing into a hard object. Crashing to the floor, bag slipping out of your hand, hand scraping pavement. 'Fuck.' (times 10 by now?)
"Excuse me?" A hardened voice says. Maybe you crashed into a very vocal hard object...
You look up, a little dazed from the hard knockout. Eyes meeting with familiar teal ones. His eyes narrow and his eyebrows clearly show he's frustrated... or is that irritation? Might as well be the same thing if it's coming from him.
"I know you're spatially unaware of both you and others, but try not to be as clumsy next time... It's embarrassing." Alhaitham's monotone voice pierces the silence.
'Asshole.'
You look up at him some more, suddenly feeling too lightheaded to really reply. "I-I'm sorry." mumbling out, a wave of exhaustion hits you. "I'm a bit late for class and didn't see where I was going..." You scramble to get your belongings, your head pounding a little. Then you hear a heavy sigh, and a hand reached out to you.
"You probably didn't realize, being all distracted and uncoordinated, that we don't have classes today. Or even for the week, for that matter." Alhaitham grabs a notebook off the ground and hands it to you, unconsciously scanning your face for anything concerning or worth the attention.
You turn to him, squinting your eyes, "I get it, you hate me, but blatantly trying to get me to fail is a low for even you." His face then morphs into one of pure annoyance.
"I try to be kind for once and this is my repayment... Typical." The silver-haired man scoffs and starts turning around.
"Hey! I'm not done talking to you!" You yell towards him, picking up your pace. Wobbling a little from him knocking you through the fucking pavement, you slowly catch up to his strides.
OH, he made your blood boil. Always walking around like he can do anything and everything. Where's his dignity? His principles?? Manners?! Maybe he'd have people who actually enjoyed his stupid company if he wasn't such a stuck-up jerk face.
Alhaitham, back turned to you, almost reaching his patience with you. "Mid-terms. It's the middle of the year." speaking bluntly he swiftly turns your way. Getting a little in your personal space, arms crossed.
"I don't know if it's the drinking last night, or your pure idiocy, but we spent just this last week going over what is needed for our mid-terms next week." Annoyance was dripping from the man, your face flushing slightly.
You try to scramble your thoughts together, searching for any hint of truth behind the man's words. And, unfortunately for you, he was indeed correct. 'How could I space that?' Your eyes dart around his face for any lies. 'Well, he didn't need to remind me rudely...'
"I must've spaced it... My apologies." You say, truly embarrassed. But what you didn't see was his eyes softening only the slightest bit. Remorse? Sympathy? Or maybe it was pity.
"It's fine, I'll let your slip-up go this once." Alhaitham smirks a little, his teasing tone only coming out just a little. You roll your eyes and throw a small grin his way. "I'm heading to the library to do some studies for a project I'm working on. You're free to come along if you wish."
Your eyes spark a little at his invitation. Maybe... maybe he wasn't so bad.
"What, are you not studying for mid-terms?" You ask, both of you already walking toward the library, side by side.
Alhaitham smirks a little bit, pride already seeping from his expression. "Of course not, I already know I'll ace it with flying colors."
You roll your eyes again, and honestly, you shouldn't be surprised. Alhaitham has always been a star student. Maybe that's why you took an interest in him from the beginning, someone who competed with your intellect. He always knew the answer even when you didn't, always asking for extra credit alongside him even when neither of you needed it. And lastly, both of you hated any extracurriculars that included socializing.
You shook your head lightly, laughing a little at his confidence. Still messy from this morning, your hair bounces around the frame of your face.
"Shouldn't expect any less from the great Alhaitham."
And maybe it was your snarky little comments that you weren't afraid to say, or the sun hitting against your face just right. But Alhaitham found his heart picking up a few paces.

“I’m in love with you!” Series
Alhaitham x reader Summary — Alhaitham has never been one for social interactions - in fact, neither of you knew each other in the first place. His pride never allowed anyone to befriend him fully. Until you decide to confess your love to him bluntly one morning, ultimately changing his perspective about you. TW : angst-comfort, unrequited love, strangers to enemies to lovers, possible smut, aged-up characters suggestive themes MINORS DNI word count : 2k
You turn to him, squinting your eyes, "I get it, you hate me, but blatantly trying to get me to failure is a low for even you." His face then morphs into one of pure annoyance.

⭒ WRIOTHESLEY
fluff. fem reader -> you’re married + referred to as his wife. afternoon tea with your husband. wriothesley has found a new preference for his tea. playful banter. ₊ 𓂃 masterlist.
Tumblr media
something is not quite right, to put it bluntly.
WRIOTHESLEY is resting at desk, as he usually is around this time for his sacred afternoon tea break; two cubes of sugar with his tea, that’s how it always is. it’s brewed the exact same way as he’s been brewing it, all these years doing the same thing will give a guy a sort of routine, he likes to think he’s got a knack for making a good cup at this point.
but something is just… off. it’s different.
he lifts the porcelain teacup up to his lips to take a sip and instead of the usual satisfied, content sigh that leaves his mouth following his first taste he just… inhales through his teeth before he sets it back down disappointingly.
a dash of milk with his coffee, two sugars with his tea. it’s the same routine, nothing has changed but it feels like everything has. had wriothesley not brewed it long enough? was this shipment damp when he received it? but he’s sure he checked it over, nothing ever gets past him unchecked (especially not his teas.)
he groans as he lets his elbow rest on the desk to squeeze at his temple and he feels a headache coming on as he thinks. it’s a pain that could usually be soothed by his favourite time of day and normally it would be, it would work. but maybe the dukes tea making skills are going downhill.. nah, that can’t be it, right?
wriothesley groans as he rests back in his chair, eyeing up the small porcelain bowl of sugar that he always has resting on his desk for visitors to help themselves too. against his better judgement, he decides that maybe an extra sugar cube or maybe.. two, may help to flavour his choice of brew.
he leans over to pick up a few of the tiny squares between his fingers, his train of thought momentarily being interrupted by the heavy, steel sound of his office door being opened before it closes again.
he knows it’s you, he always does and its not only because nobody else would dare to walk into the dukes office unannounced. but also because he just has a way of sensing your presence when he feels the tension in his shoulder suddenly melt away as you call for him from your way up the stairs.
“sorry, i’m late. caught up at work.” ah yes, there it was.
that sweet call of your voice, the soft tone it takes when it calls out for him. you’d agreed to visit wriothesley to eat lunch together, with him working longer hours at work to finish up on some looming documents and the new influx of prisoners, it was really the only time he was getting to see you throughout the day.
you’re like the sun in the otherwise grimy, underground walls of his office. so bright and pretty when you finally step up the top step and he gives you a soft smile as he drops the two extra sweet cubes from between his fingers into his brew.
your presence almost feels like it warms along his shoulders, like the light in the overworld would.
you do pick up on the anomaly in his routine as you make your way around his desk to rest on the arm of his seat. “extra sugar? i never realised the renowned duke suddenly acquired a sweet tooth.” you tease, pressing yourself into wriothesley’s side and the sweet scent of your perfume makes him inhale deeply with his next breath, relaxing even more with the exhale that follows.
normally the duke would be opposed to such public displays of affection, he is at work afterall. but in the safe security of his office (and his protected afternoon teatime) he has no qualms or hesitations when it comes to wrapping his arm around your waist to welcome you.
“yeah, well… somethings not right today and i intend to get to the bottom of it.” you eye wriothesley as he stirs his tea with his free hand, four sugars deep now from what you’d assume (considering the two extra he just added as you walked in), bringing it to his lips a few moments later before he’s taking another sip.
“and.. did that help?” you ask curiously but you can already tell he hates it when his nose twitches slightly and his brows furrow before he even speaks - although he tries to play off his distaste and his mistake by clearing his throat.
years of marriage will do that to you, you can read this man like a book despite the way he tries to deny it.
“oh, not at all.” wriothesley jokes, although matter of factly and his playful tone makes you laugh as much as it always has.
“yeah i figured as much.” you squeeze at his shoulder before pushing yourself up to stand, whisking away the wasteful teacup filled with the sickly sweet brew. “here, let me make you a cup.”
“you sure? might be something with the tea, maybe.. ah, i don’t know.. something got into the shipment.” the duke grumbles slightly, the weight of a wasted batch of tea weighing heavy on him as he flicks absentmindedly through the pile of documents on his desk.
he’s not paying attention to work though, he’s too busy looking at you.
“you check over them though, right?” you hum like you don’t believe his excuse, it was well known that wriothesley went through shipments with a fine tooth comb. nothing ever went unchecked under the dukes watch but still you hear him sigh, before he shrugs.
“well, maybe i got sloppy.” you can’t help but snort out a laugh as you carefully brew the tea infront of you.
“only one way to find out. you’re still good with two sugars, right? or do you want the other ten, too?” you’d made enough tea for your husband to know exactly how he likes it, two sugars with his tea and a dash of milk with his coffee. you give him a look over your shoulder as you joke, it’s one he meets with his own chuckle.
“oh absolutely not. i’ve learned my lesson.” you turn to finish brewing the tea but wriothesley‘s eyes remain on you, too hypnotised by your figure in his office and the gentle movements in which you handle his things. he clears his throat, straightening up at his desk when he realises he’s staring and shuffling at his papers absentmindedly, he’s not taken in a single piece of information from them since you got here. “two is perfect.”
a few more serene moments and you give him a smile as you turn to serve him his tea, resting it down infront of the duke gently before you’re taking your space on the arm of his chair again.
you cosy into his side as his hand squeezes affectionately at your thigh; accompanied with the gentle, appreciative thank you he gives you.
the teacup and saucer always look so small in wriothesley’s big hands as he picks it up, bringing it to his face as he takes a slow inhale of the brew before he sighs. he tilts his head to give you a look, but you’re already smiling like you’re just begging him to take a sip and his lips curl around the cup as he does.
now that is lovely; the perfect blend of flavours, expertly brewed tea exactly to his liking. it almost makes his eyes close at how well it dances along his taste buds, easing the slight headache he felt coming on (although your presence alone did wonders for that.)
“uh oh..” he drawls, choosing not to give too much away just yet, he feels you shift in your seat curiously as he rests the cup back down on his desk. although he deliberately pauses for a few more seconds, waiting until you’re nudging at his shoulder impatiently before he continues. “well, good news is i guess the shipment is fine.”
“to be expected under your watch, your grace.” you quip quickly, wriothesley knows you’re teasing him but oh the title rolling off of your tongue is so saccharine he almost burns hot under his collar. he even finds himself readjusting his tie as you lean closer. “but? the bad news?”
“but, unfortunately, i’m gonna have to keep you down here with me from now on.” he reaches for you as he replies, snaking his arm around your hips so he can pull you closer - until you’re almost sitting on his lap, thighs across his own. your brow lifts at his words, albeit you’re smiling too.
“your tea making expertise is just too valuable to be walking around the streets of fontaine unguarded.” wriothesley nods, all handsome and rugged as he squeezes at your hips. “so im offering you top class protection, curtesy of the duke himself ofcourse.”
“right.” you pretend to roll your eyes at his teasing despite the way you still lean in closer, “too afraid to admit i make better tea than you do now?” your voice is a captivating murmur and it seems to lure the duke into you as he tilts his head to look at you, huffing out a chuckle - almost at himself, with the way his wife has him wrapped around her pretty finger with a cup of her tea.
“you look even more pleased about this than i do.”
you shrug, opting to trace your finger along the soft stubble that’s gathering across your husbands jawline as you speak, “well, i did learn from the best.”
“and seems like the time has come for me to finally pass down that title.” wriothesley leans into the press of your fingertips, it’s incredible the way you’re able to render the renowned duke of the fortress of meropide into a lovesick fool.
his hand squeezes at your hips as the other arm comes to reach and rest behind his head and he kicks out his feet into a more relaxed pose, leaning against the back of his chair like he’s about to go for a (much-needed) nap as he playfully closes his eyes. “guess i’m forced to retire.”
“well if you say it like that, i guess there’s no choice, i’ll have to come back again tomorrow too. how else will you enjoy your tea everyday if i’m not here to make it?” wriothesley peaks an eye open at you, like he’s gauging your next move and your hand rests on his chest as you meet his gaze.
“oh? but my afternoon tea is part of my daily schedule.” he reminds you with a raised brow,
“whatever will we do.” you pretend to think as you pat your fingertips on his shirt, acting like you’re lost in thought - but you both know where you’re going with this already. “we can’t have the duke going without his wife’s tea everyday, i hear he gets grumpy.”
“oh, absolutely not.” wriothesley snorts but lets just say the prisoners in the fortress of meropide might think a little differently if asked.
although thankfully, he’s self-aware enough to admit defeat when he gives your hips another lingering squeeze and gives you another smirk as he pushes himself up straight again. he’s puffing out his chest like you’re about to conclude your business meeting today - a very successful one in his opinion.
“well, it seems with that being said, it would be my honour on behalf of the fortress of meropide to humbly accept your invitation to accompany me for afternoon tea, everyday. you can consider my schedule cleared.”

TW : angst-comfort, unrequited love, strangers to enemies to lovers, possible smut, aged-up characters word count : 2.9k
pt. 1 - "Excuse me?"
Tumblr media
“I’m in love with you.”
“Excuse me?”
You both stood in the middle of a park, some corny shit out of some little kid romance film.
“I’m in love with you.”
Backpacks on the back of both of you, freshly out of class.
“This is what you dragged me out here for? Tch.”
He scoffs a little, almost like it’s a joke. The wrinkle in between his eyebrows was even more prominent. He’d never been one for jokes or wasting time. In fact, he hates wasting time. Even more so when it's people wasting his time.
But you don’t flinch, not a hint of hurt. Just a straight face while holding your books in your arms: like a fucking schoolgirl. (even if you technically are one)
He goes to open his mouth, reject you and move on with his day. Only, you interrupted him quickly, not a stutter or hitch.
“If you don’t feel the same way then I’ll be on my way.”
Not even batting an eye, you turn around swiftly and start walking away. No outburst, no crying, its dramatic flair to his annoyance. ‘Odd.’ That’s all that comes to mind when he watches you leave, not making any move to stop you.
See Alhaitham has always been popular among women; whether it be Valentine's Day or a rainy day, there was always someone wanting to confess their interest or feelings for the silver-haired man. Most of the time it ends with them raising their voices, crying and sobbing. Knowing that his interest in romantic aspects were, well, none.
But this was the first time someone didn't care slightly that someone, little to nothing himself, didn't return the feelings. Alhaitham turns some music on connecting it to his headphones, trying to shake whatever feeling came over him. Envy? Anger? This was one of the rare times Alhaitham had been consumed with something he didn't know logically to do with.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, you walked away not a care in the world. Your friends had hidden behind some trees aways away, trying to see some sort of drama or events take place. Especially with their all-nonchalant friend who didn't care for rejection or romance in the first place.
Coming up behind you, Dehya had a frown on her face. "You seriously didn't care one bit, did you?" It wasn't even a question, more of a statement. Observing your straight face, you raised an eyebrow.
You had asked Alhaitham after a class to meet up with him in the park to discuss something. It went fairly smoothly; he didn't even ask what about. You had thought he probably already had an idea about what it would be about. 'Always the cut-and-dry type.' you thought as you walked.
"Why would I care? What exactly would I care about?" You replied back, with no form of irritation or any negative emotion. 'Typical', Dehya had thought as Candace chose to speak up next, all of you walking towards home. Sun starting to set in the background.
"I mean, you liked him, didn't you?" She started to say, "It's okay to feel bad about it-"
"But I don't. Life goes on, nothing changes. In fact, I'm glad he didn't waste my time with idle chit-chat about, "when" or "how" I ended up liking him. It's so exhausting." You interrupted her, ranting about how it's not that important. Dehya just rolled her eyes, Candace trying to smile slightly at the both of you.
"That's a smart way of thinking about it but... I mean... It can be disappointing too."
You huff a little, eye twitching just a little. 'How irritating.'
"I love and appreciate you both for your concern and, uhm, support. But I do not need it, think of it all as a little experiment." You turned towards them, halting your steps. The three of you standing on the sidewalk, almost to your destination. "It failed and my hypothesis was incorrect. So, it's back to the drawing board." You smile slightly, walking up the steps of your home. Getting out your keys, Candace and Dehya look with a knowing look.
"Wasn't it you who even proposed the setting? Maybe he thought it was a joke since it was at a park..." Dehya offered an explanation, but even she didn't fully believe it.
"It was one of the better settings, it was secluded, away from prying eyes and away from earshot. Quiet and nothing to be distracted by. But maybe I should've chosen somewhere else." You finished, trying to think through all possible errors. "Either way it doesn't matter, what happened, happened. No use in fretting about it."
Dehya gave a grim look, "I didn't mean it like that..."
"It's okay. Plus, we're still studying, still young. I'm not expecting someone like him to be even hint in that direction with anyone. You know Alhaitham." You had a sly little smile on your face as you unlocked the door, glancing at the two girls.
Dehya laughs a little, "Oh we are very well aware... I honestly don't see how you had feelings for that iceman." Stepping inside your house as well with the two of you. Candace makes a face towards Dehya, knowing that it wasn't as polite as it could've been said.
You snorted a little as you got out leftovers. "Well, I took into account his demeanor but also his interests. He cuts to the chase, doesn't like idle-chit chatting, moving towards a career and goal-"
"I think we get the picture... Almost the male version of you." Candace replies cutting you off as Dehya tries not to laugh.
You roll your eyes and laugh a little, "Yeah yeah. So, are we watching a movie?"
"I'll make the popcorn-" Dehya starts to say.
"I call choosing the movie!" Candace says from the living room, already picking up the remote.
'This is all I need anyways.' you think with a smile on your face as you get out the snacks.
Tumblr media
The next day was the same, at least both Alhaitham and you tried to go about it that way.
Attending classes, even the ones where the both of you shared. Going to lunch, where most of the time Alhaitham would be reading in a quiet space, teal eyes focused on the pages. Or you would be taking notes while sitting at a table with Candace or Dehya.
Barely a moment slipped passed your mind about him, and you to him.
It was almost like the confession had never happened; everything was in place as if it were untouched.
And, in all honesty, a week had passed with this routine. Each of you living your lives, studying hard to earn your degree. Alhaitham studied mathematics and science (and reading everything and anything in between) to be a scribe to Sumeru. While you studied biology and botany; trying to achieve a Naturopathic doctor of Sumeru for the head scribe. That is why both of you shared science classes in the first place.
Everything going smoothly until a shared class between the two of you. The professor had allowed the rest of the class to be used as studying or note taking; free to leave anytime in between.
"Hey, you're trying to become a doctor, aren't you?"
Alhaitham's ears picked up in the crowded lecture room.
"Yes, a Naturopathic doctor... if that makes any difference." You replied, still focusing on whatever last needed notes to write down. Kaveh sat down beside you, clearly interested in a conversation between the two of you.
'Always the annoying roach.' Alhaitham thought, knowing full well how Kaveh was. Being his roommate definitely had its perks, like constant groceries and good furniture. But that's about it, now that he thought about it.
The constant nagging, scoffs, and judgments from the blonde were the epitome of annoyance. Always, "You're always so cold" "Put away your books they're everywhere" and even "All you ever do is study, one drink won't hurt." The future architect didn't have any sense of routine, at least that's what Alhaitham believed. Except maybe the constant time at the bar for drinks after classes.
"Oh, what type of doctor is that?" Kaveh's eyes were full of curiosity as if he found his new thing to be obsessed with for a week.
"A healthcare professional who practices naturopathic medicine. Naturopathic medicine is an alternative medicine approach that emphasizes using natural medicine and a “whole person” approach to prevent, diagnose, and treat health conditions." You highlighted part of your notes, then shut your notebook, finally looking at the red eyes of the blonde.
"Basically, a doctor whose treatment and medication are plant or nature-based. No fake shit." You give a little fake smile and pack your things up, already slinging your bag on your back.
"You know, you seem pretty cool, wanna catch a drink together? I know this fantastic place, even the dishes are quite tasty-"
"I have studies I need to do, plus I already have some plans with a couple of friends of mine." You cut him off, trying to hurry off in the process. But Kaveh is one of the most stubborn people Alhaitham has ever met.
Alhaitham smirked a little at the rejection, hands pausing to listen. Of course, he wasn't truly trying to pry into the conversation, you both are just so loud. At least that's what he told himself. Trying to tune them out, he focuses back on his note-taking. Plugging his headphones into his ears, drifting off into his little world.
"That's okay! How about your friends and you come by - my friends also go there to get a drink so think of it like a big get-together." Kaveh tried to explain, hoping that his honest to God's idea would work.
You gritted your teeth, jaw clenching. It's not that social interaction was unattainable, but very much not wanted. It was hard enough trying to befriend Candace and Dehya years ago, little to nothing now. Walking out into the hallway towards outside, Kaveh still trails behind you, waiting for an answer.
"I don't know, my friends aren't really keen on big groups, so I'll have to ask them-" Suddenly Candace and Dehya are there waving at you to come closer. 'Looks like they were waiting for me to finish up...' you look a little surprised when Kaveh notices your look. "Are those your friends?" he asks, and without even waiting for your answer he walks up to them.
"Fuck." you mumble as you try to catch up and stop Kaveh from talking them into having a gathering together.
It's not that you didn't like Kaveh, in fact, you bet he's a very nice and kind guy... But you're not one for social events, nor making friends. They require a lot: opening up, spending time together, making time for them, and even dragging you into things you don't necessarily want to be a part of. And, as you watch the three of them talk, I guess this was one of those moments.
"Oh, we'd love to all hangout. In fact, we were all going to do that anyway." Candace smiles at Kaveh, accepting his invitation on behalf of quite literally the whole group. Dehya had a little cautiousness to her but still agreed anyway. Meanwhile. you tried your best to stay composed.
They exchanged words with each other and headed towards your home. 5 pm, that's the agreed time for the get-together. The girls and you had agreed to head back to your place to chill out (or, in your case, study) and then get ready to go.
"Do we really need to do all this unnecessary socializing? What if his friends are weird or perverts." You said, trying on some casual clothes. You knew it was unrealistic to think something of that, but you couldn't help but make excuses. Maybe if you put certain thoughts in their heads then you wouldn't have to endure this social gathering.
Candace is in the background fixing her makeup and Dehya watching from the sidelines. "It'll be finnnee, no need to worry we'll be in a public setting if anything happens." Candace tried comforting you, knowing full well how much you despised idle chitchat.
"Plus, there is our big strong guard dog that will protect us." She made a snide remark, looking towards Dehya who had her eyebrow raised.
You laugh, "Oh yes our big scary guard dog. How could I ever forget her." Candace and you bust out laughing, Dehya replying in an eye roll and sigh going out of the room and into the living room.
"Oh! I also invited Layla; she's been meaning to get out more so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity." Candace mentions as she finishes touching up her makeup.
Layla, always the quiet and tired woman who surprisingly hasn't died from lack of sleep. She's joined our group on the occasion, meeting her from Candace on one outing with them all. 'She's one of the only people I can tolerate for a long while.' You thought, thinking back on how Layla wasn't much of a talker. A commenter? Sure, but not out of any negative intentions, merely out of pure observation.
"Yeah, that's fine, I haven't spoken to her in a while." You concluded as you headed into the bathroom to change.
Oh, this was going to be an eventful night.
Tumblr media
"Just go with us for once, it's not a big deal unless you make it one."
Kaveh stood in his and Alhaitham's living room, trying to convince the ever-so-monotone man to join in the fun for a night.
"And why would I waste time with pleasantries when I could be doing something much more productive." Alhaitham concluded, eyes never wavering from the pages of the book set in his hands.
Alhaitham hated wasting time, and what he believed in wasting time was quite a list. Social events, social gatherings, taking unnecessary amounts of notes, pleasantries, and idle chitchat. Oh and of course any and all romantic aspects. He just believed it was unnecessary, boring, time-consuming, and useless.
"And what is productive, Alhaitham? Reading all day? Making more of a mess?" Kaveh scoffed, truly not understanding why the man had no sense of respect for even his roommate.
"Do you need a list?" Alhaitham asked coyly, "I can give you one if you truly need one, Kaveh. Unless you're too busy drinking your sorrows away."
Kaveh just scoffed again, angrily grabbing his coat. "To think I wanted to introduce you to my new acquaintances." He stomped towards the door only to stop by the sound of Alhaitham's indifferent voice.
"And who in their right mind would agree to have a drink with you? I know Cyno and Tighnari are your usual, but besides that, I don't think anyone could tolerate ten minutes of your yapping."
Although, Alhaitham had truly meant what he said - Kaveh's non-stop talking had made a lot of people cut their visits short - part of him was wondering who was joining them. Wondering if it was you who had agreed.
Kaveh turned around sharply, "For your information, it was the girl in our class and her friends who were more than happy to join Cyno, Tighnari, and me. So, pull your delusions out of your ASS!" Kaveh said loudly and defensively, then turned around curtly and headed out of the door.
"The only delusions here are your life, dear Kaveh." Alhaitham muttered, wondering why you had accepted his invitation. 'Is she just interested in anyone?' he had wondered. 'Why does it matter, she's just a classmate.' Alhaitham had settled, yet part of him was curious about you.
Tumblr media
Candance, Dehya and you had dropped by Layla's to accompany her to the bar. The four of you walked towards the bar, already spotting where Kaveh was waiting for you at the entrance. Nerves were a bit high already coming closer to the building, knowing you're not the best in social situations. Yet it wasn't as bad as you had thought previously.
'How sweet of him.' you had thought as he greeted each of you, opening the door and showing you to the table they already had.
The air was slightly stuffy due to the cooking and people gathered around, but ultimately it wasn't as loud as you thought it would be. The place was cozy, and the smell of mouth-watering food wafted through the air. 'Looks like Kaveh knows his places.'
Walking towards the table you spot a familiar face, "Tighnari, nice seeing you again." You had sat down next to him, offering him a small smile.
Tighnari smiled brightly at you, "Ah if it isn't the doctor in training! I wasn't expecting you to join us." He leaned in towards you looking at your face. "Did you grow your hair out a little? It's been a while."
Your ears turn a little red, embarrassed by his observation. You cleared your throat a little, "I haven't had time to get a haircut, studies are a necessity to-"
"-to success. Ah still saying the same thing I see." He finishes your sentence, smiling and shaking his head a little.
Tighnari had recently graduated from Amurta, specializing in biology, ecology, and medicine. Exactly what you wanted to study. The both of you knew each other from preliminaries, him registering for his last year in Amurta and you applying for your second year. Three years in total. One year difference. You both had bonded through the mutual interests in biology and medicine, Tighnari going as far as offering to mentor you if needed.
But you had your own things I suppose.
Then suddenly, a deep familiar voice spoke between the two of you.
"Proper care to oneself is also the path to success. Neglecting one's basic needs will only lower your chance of success." He pauses, slyness dripping from his voice, "Unless you're intentionally wanting to fail."
'This cocky piece of shit.'

“I’m in love with you!” Series

Until you decide to confess your love to him bluntly one morning, ultimately changing his perspective about you. pt. 1 - "Excuse me?"
Tumblr media
“I’m in love with you.”
“Excuse me?”
You both stood in the middle of a park, some corny shit out of some little kid romance film.
“I’m in love with you.”
Bags on the back of both of you, freshly out of class.

Mornings | Shoto Todoroki
“Sho?”
“Hm..?”
“Wake up.”
“Mmm how about no.”
Your laugh echoed around the brightening room. Soft bedsheets wrapped around both of your forms, bed hair and eye bags. A cup of coffee sounds good. The light glow of sunlight hitting the sheets, his hair and slightly into his eyes makes it even more breathtaking.
You avert your eyes a little, getting distracted. “Cmon, we have stuff to do today. It’s not everyday you have a day off with me~.”
Hearing your teasing voice, his eyes peaked out from the covers; sleep covering them but a smile suddenly formed.
“Morning beautiful.”
His deep voice filling the room, you push his hair out of his eyes, slightly caressing his face. ‘oh how much i adore him.’
“Morning handsome.” you reply, he moves his arms and pulls you towards him, kissing your neck. Laughs fill the room as he kisses you more. “Stop moving, I can’t love you when you’re fighting me…” He smiles, kissing up your jawline, arms firm around your waist.
The feeling of his lips and skin burned into yours.
“Sho we really need to get up..” You say again, knowing full well you’ll probably not get much done today.
“Mmm.. Five more minutes.” He closes his eyes as his head rests on your chest, arms still around you.
You suddenly get up and try to head towards the bathroom, only to be stopped my Todoroki’s strong hand grabbing your wrist. He tugs you back and grabs the rest of you towards himself, as if he’s tucking you away from the world.
Away from the worries and responsibilities of being alive.
“Please..”
His face smushed against your head as his arms are tight around your frame, against his in the warm duvets.
Your heart slightly aches as you realized how long it’d been since you just… laid together.
You sigh and naturally relax against his warm body. “Okay baby…”
Although you can’t see it, Shoto smiles a little, his hold easing up a little knowing you’re not going anywhere. His head bends down a little and kisses you right in your forehead, bed head messy and slightly frizzy.
“…love you gorgeous.” Sho whispers as he closes his eyes, feeling perfectly at home.
“Love you more”
