SCF Art Appreciation Virtual Sketchbook
Hello, my name is Christina Sisk. I joined the Army when I was 17 and served total of 28 years. I'm a Licensed Nurse now 31years and a Massage Therapist for 2 Years. Finally decided to go back to school and get my RN degree.
MY piece is Antoni Gaudi 1882-2026 (planned) Sagrada Família (interior ceiling), minor basilia, Barcelona, Spain.
5 Facts
1.Gaudi was born 1852 and had several siblings 2 died prior to his birth and his mother and father ran him to the church to be Baptist they wanted to make sure god protected him.
2. As a child he was sick with a lung infection and arthritis, so he had to stay away from others. He would take walks sit and admire nature which he would incorporate in his work.
3.His father was a coppersmith and Gaudi was inspired by watching him work viewing his work as 3D . He would later make his models in 3D.
4. Gaudi studied Architecture, he studied history, French, and economics. His father sold part of the family property to pay for his education.
5. He served in the Military age of 22 but was mostly in the sick bay or on sick leave this enabled him to continue his studies.1872-1876 he was declared " Glorious Son of the Motherland"
When I first viewed work on the ceiling, it looked very much modern with all different mediums. The post reminded me of trees after reading about him and seeing the work of art it’s amazing. His mind was filled with so many ideas and he used a lot of what he learned in life to bring his architecture alive. I thought it was wild that his parents ran him to the church after he was born to get him baptized because his two siblings had died, I wondered if this is why he built the Basilia. Interior is like 36 forest like columns, these symbolize saint rises to the heavens. This amazes me that he could create this work of art and it is still unfinished. Antoni Gaudi believed God was his client, so he was in no hurry to finish construction. I believe This was a blessing to the Gaudi Family.
