The highlight of last night’s CINTAS Foundation awards was seeing a scholar and gentleman I had the honor of learning from as his student and having him as my mentor. For over 3 decades Dr. Juan Martinez has been a pillar of academic research in South Florida, a champion of the arts, and a unique and brilliant voice for Cuban art and culture. Thank you for all your support, your generosity with your time, your words of wisdom and endlessly cracking me up with your scoundrel’s sense of humor. I’ll always be grateful for your lionhearted loyalty, and even with your own fiery temperament you were always a calming voice of reason for a hot-headed younger me. Beyond happy for you!
