Sometimes making up game build test names is just too difficult.

Next up, covering all that hard modeling work with clothes!
I don't intend to go any more detailed than this. The plan is to get something interesting visually on Unity's side with shaders :)

So, I've been working on the main character of the game for a good while now. This here is Dominic! name may change later
And this is how he started. I'm no master when it comes to modeling robots but I decided to get the proportions and basic idea down with a rough sculpt.
Rest is history retopology.
I ended up not liking the original design's face colors so I made him cuter with... white irises? It somehow works.

Working on the main character's clothes atm. Messing around with Blender's cloth systems. It's slowly driving me insane.
#orangesavannah#chroma#chroma-game#game development#gamedev#indiedev#blender#blender cloth#I usually use Maya as my main 3D software so trying to figure out where things are in Blender is causing me a headache

Camera movement!
A little bit of dynamic cam movement doesn't hurt, right? We wanted a bit more than just a static camera looking at the different situations and we achieved this using Cinemachine's Dolly Track (a very short Dolly track...). Most of the time this won't have a big effect on the gameplay but we have thought about hiding extra lore and such in the far sides in certain situations. 😎
Will have to see how to integrate this into the cutscene portions, since those have way more cameras.

Saturation change
We finally got the color change on mouse hover working in 3D!! The purpose of this is to show player the object changing color can be clicked to get more information.
We really wanted to use OToon Shading package from Unity Asset Store but they didn't have saturation as a built in feature. But after a couple of emails, couple of workarounds and excellent customer service from the OToon creator Eric Hu, we got it working. Super happy about this! :D

The text boxes and style of the game look fantastic! I’m getting a very heavy Ace Attorney vibe from the few gameplay segments you’ve shown off so far, is Chroma inspired by the series in any way?
Thank you so much! The game's not exactly inspired by Ace Attorney though it's a good series.
Some of our main inspirations for the dialog/cinematics are from games FORECLOSED and Necrobarista. They both use 3D but also have this visual novel/comic style look.
For gameplay we're planning on just simple point and click mechanics for now. It's better to keep it simple at first! Perhaps in the future we'll add more features.

Text box
Since C H R O M A is a visual novel which furthers plot with dialogue, we needed visuals for it. We wanted the text box's appearance to be animated and that the box would scale to the size of the shown text. The first tries of this were..... less than successful (but hilarious)...
But finally with blood, sweat and tears, the first iteration was done.
And now we have even polished it a bit as well! ( With a sneak peek of the "close up view" feature on the left 😎)

First we thought about making the whole game only using 2D art but quickly came to the realization that this would take a lot of time and effort on the artists side. Here is a quick draft of the game’s starting scene still in 2D.
The game play elements involve clicking objects to gain further information.
And here is the first attempts at seeing how the 3D version looks!

Title Menu
Concept idea for the title menu and how it’s supposed to animate. You can still see our game’s placeholder name in the title.
And here’s the animation and setup for the actual game!
This is not the final version, but we’re happy how it looks so far! 🖤
