Concrete vs. Texture

“My most remarkable memory is about the cement plant, which covered the whole city with a thin layer of dust, the pollution of the city was extremely high. Concrete has subsequently become, for me, a metaphor of the society we live in, surrounding ourselves with this material, giving us protection from nature, thus nature becoming something we visit and not something we live in, becoming, in fact, a curiosity.”

“Yesterday I went to see Riccardo. I knew that I would have found him in his garage. I called him while I was still standing outside, just a second before going in, like I always do. He was winding a pendulum clock he had fixed himself. I came to find him to let him know about my new book. I explain to him that I called it “must”. He’s in it too. I drew him from a picture I took last summer. Must. Like that slime made out of peels and juice, something thick and murky, that will turn into wine. It will turn into wine, but isn’t yet. The caskets need to be prepared properly. They need to be washed carefully. They have to be put away in a place with a precise temperature. Wait for the fermentation process. At least for two years. Patience is crucial.”

This day has finally come! RAW Streetphoto Gallery is re-emerging! The entire Gallery team is pleased to introduce you to Chrysalid Gallery!

Chrysalid Gallery is a dynamic cocoon aiming at transforming the canons around contemporary art and its market. It’s a conceptual and experimental gallery based in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) that actively promotes and collaborates with young and daring artists from all over Europe.

As a communal platform, Chrysalid wants to give artists room to experiment, to grow in their vision and to fearlessly portrait reality through the insight of their unique practices.

In this metamorphic framework, the individuals behind the idea of the gallery collaborate to reshape and broaden the narratives in contemporary art, making them more inclusive and representative of the multitude of details that existence is made of.
