I just found out that after Kishimoto did the entermix magazine interview where he says "my brother and I are the prototype for Naruto and Sasuke" and "for me brotherly love and friendship are the same" they asked his brother Seishi about this and he said "My brother's concept of brotherly love is very strange" LMFAOOOOOOOOO

Naruto is such a hilarious series like sasuke is the only villain that was held accountable and needed to take a redemption journey , quite literally everyone else from genocide enthusiast itachi to coolest guy obito to slave owner hiashi either die memorialized as heroes or are just chilling. Orochimaru is literally still out there experimenting on kids in the village naruto runs like it’s soooo funny

there's a very compelling fantasy i repeatedly hear by nostalgic? and reactionary westerners about nuclear families and abuse. if their were simply more people in the family, the patriarchs abuse would be limited. their would be a bystander to interfere. this is (a) deeply ahistorical, the rise of the nuclear family in fact seems to parallel feminist gains in the recognition of domestic abuse and (b) defacto or even dejure protections for women or children are not stronger in countries where large families are still extant, if shrinking (like india). but sure too many confounding factors to draw conclusions from.
fundamentally this story does not really understand why large families exist as they do, the people in them are not uninterested strangers who can act as good samaritans to each other. they are usually set to inherit land or a family home. they run a family business together and have for generations. they are a clan that has customary rights over resources or professions in a region that they fiercely protect from other clans. an abused child or a woman's welfare does not matter to this economic engine. in fact it creates circuits of complicity, and more importantly real motivations for abuse. we must ensure women remain compliant sources of reproductive and social labour for the family firm. we must protect the family honour, the reputation of the family firm, so those that step out of line by marrying without concern to family alliances and property, by being aberrant in anyway must be disciplined. its one thing for child services, that failing, benighted institution to interfere in a nuclear family, but to slight a clan? no, the police are more likely to fetch a runaway bride and deliver them back to the doorstep of their abusive natal family.
The Tenacity of the Hindu Undivided Family; Gender, Religion and Tax Concessions on how the HUF act empowers hindu family run firms to extend capital accumulation and power.
In The Name of Honour: Journalism on honour killings in Tamil Nadu, where families and communities collude to kill young adults for marrying for love across caste or religious lines.
We on the scary communist left recommend Abolish the Family, by Sophie Lewis as a primer.
