take another piece of my heart -- relationships
Trafalgar D. Water Law / @cxnsolatio / Captain & Friend -- verse: yellow submarine
Rosinante lives. After a lengthy stay in something like witness protection, until the fall of Dressrosa, Rosinante leaves everything behind to pledge his heart to the Heart Pirates, the Polar Tang, and their captain-- the boy whose life Rosinante saved more than ten years ago. Back then, Corazón called him a brat. Now, he calls Law Captain. They have a lot of catching up to do, but there's nowhere Corazón would rather be than ten-thousand leagues under the sea, with the proof that his life has thus far not been meaningless.
Donquixote Doflamingo / @conquiistador / Captain & Brother -- verse: main
Newly reunited after fourteen years, this thread takes place in the main verse. An undercover Navy man, Corazón intends to infiltrate his brother's pirate crew to dissolve it from the inside out. The thing is, when it comes to family, nothing is ever as simple as it should be. Initially strong resolved, Corazón finds it difficult to pull the metaphorical and literal trigger aimed at his brother's life. Even though Corazón should be more and more sure of what to do with each day that passes with the Donquixote family, he's still troubled by the fact that he simple didn't expect his brother to welcome him with such open arms.
Roy Novac Sullivan / @renoxvated / Acquaintance; Possible Ally? -- verse: i'm wearing my heart like a crown
These interactions take place in the verse of Fallout, where Corazón works on the New Vegas Strip within his brother's casino, Dressrosa. The Donquixote Family is one of the Strip's trusted families that work directly under Mr. House to keep the Strip running, but Doflamingo has his sights set... higher than his current position. Troubled by what his brother does to take power by any means necessary, Corazón has become disillusioned with his family's place on the Strip, and when Courier Six comes knocking on the Family's door, he realizes that he may just have to show the Family's hand.

Mahmoud Darwish, Memory for Forgetfulness: August, Beirut, 1982 (trans. Ibrahim Muhawi) [ID'd]
on context: "[set during] the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon and the shelling of Beirut [...] Memory for Forgetfulness is an extended reflection on the invasion and its political and historical dimensions. It is also a journey into personal and collective memory. What is the meaning of exile? What is the role of the writer in time of war? What is the relationship of writing (memory) to history (forgetfulness)?" (source)

Thinking of 80s AU, and Rosinante hanging out with someone on a roller skating rink date.
He would be so PITIFUL.

♒ If they do their laundry in a timely manner
Domestic Headcanons (accepting)
In modern verses, Rosinante is very good at throwing dirty clothes into the washing machine, and then, clean clothes into the dryer. Unfortunately from there they kind of go into a basket or chair of laundry purgatory, and he'll kind of just dig out whatever clothing he needs for the day, wrinkles and all.
The exception to this would be his Navy uniform. Rosinante kept his uniforms in a condition he would be proud to wear them in.
He was proud to wear them, indeed.

--♜ Interior decorating aesthetic
Very, very bland. Anything nice that he does have was probably given to him by Doflamingo-- hence, the random splashes of pinks and reds, and luxury textiles in his home. Rosinante doesn't really care about something just because it's expensive, though.
If it weren't for Doflamingo setting up housekeeping, Rosinante's home would be a cluttered disaster. He would quite literally be fine with being seated on the floor with the TV propped up on an old, empty box, and wouldn't see much of an issue with it.

-- ☂ Favorite weather
Rosinante feels more comfortable in cooler temperatures. He's always seen in long pants and sleeves, no matter the temperature, so he suffers in the heat. He'll lie and say that he's fine, but, I mean-- he's visibly sweating. Still, he doesn't waver on the long clothes.
I like to think that he enjoys the rain and snow, and overcast days where he can huddle inside and keep to himself.

♨ Their cooking ability (or lack thereof)
Domestic Headcanons (accepting)
Rosinante should never be trusted to cook by himself. He's scarcely ever had to cook for himself or anyone else, but it's less the lack of knowledge or experience that's the problem... It's more the fact that Rosinante would start to boil water, forget ALL about it, and gets upset at the smoke detector for going off and disturbing the peace, before remembering that there was something on the stove. When he finally checks on it, his poor, empty pot is on the cusp of cremation.
TLDR; do NOT let this man cook.

I really like the word “smitten”. because at first glance you just think of sappy lovey-dovey stuff but also you have to remember this is a word that’s born of the word “smite.” a devastating word. a word that, summarized, means stricken. smitten means stricken as well — struck with devastating affection.

i love it when characters are codependent. i love it when losing someone feels like losing a limb. i love it when two people "complete" each other so wholly and terribly that one can barely function without the other. i love it when the fear of losing the only person who understands them is so all-consuming they'll destroy anything to stay together, including themselves.

Do you ever think of me and my two hands? And wonder why they never soothed your fevers? And wonder why they never tied your shoes? And wonder why they never held you gently? And wonder why they never had the chance to lose you?
(On some level, I think I always understood That a ship could never really love an anchor)
