"What," Janus croaks, still attempting to reorient himself. Midas, of course, is cackling, that specific cackle she does when she's noticed something he hasn't yet and is enjoying his suffering, in true best-friend-sibling-soul-bond-other-half fashion.
Oh, wait, hey, there's another person. An Awoken person.
"Why aren't you glowing?"
Oh, looks like it's a good voice day. His words don't sound like they came through a rock tumbler for once. Nice.
Seriously though, why isn't this Awoken glowing? Are they sick? Is that even possible? And for that matter, why are they speaking in a language Janus doesn't know? And what the hell is a zalts?
[ @general-kalani ]
Janus has been through a lot of accidental- and the occasional intentional- inter-reality traversals, but that does not mean it ever gets any easier.
Racketing around between layers of the multiverse like a particularly squishy pinball is not an experience he would recommend to anyone, and it's all he can do to curl up in a ball and be very glad that his buir showed him how to incorporate beskar alloy into his armor.
Most of his landings are harsh, so he's braced for the immediate impact-and-rez that has become routine.
This is not what happens.
Instead, he lands in some sort of water with a mighty splash and even with his ruined throat he manages an indignant yowl, thrashing panicked in the water because he can't swim-!
Oh, nevermind, the water's shallow enough he can stand.
… he's still not happy about being soaked though.

Hmm. Well that's definitely not any language Janus knows.
Not that Janus knows that many languages, but Midas' mental what on Earth...? means it's not any language she knows either, and that's much more concerning, considering the extensive databases she has access to.
Still, nobody's shooting at him- yet- so he'll take that as a net positive, all things considered.
He stands up, ignoring the body of the Knight rapidly disintegrating beneath him aside from stomping on and crushing the fucking Worm into paste. Ugh, Hive are the fucking worst. Gross.
Anyway, he's ignoring that, because he's more focused on the weird, not-glowing, not-Awoken people everywhere.
... that one's in charge, right? They look in-charge. He turns to face them, as he listens to Midas chatter in his mind about language structure.
He waves. Awkwardly. Because today is not a good day for his throat and he doubts these people will understand sign.
(It's not a good day for the rest of his body, either. He hit the ground- floor? floor- pretty hard and is obviously favoring one side, but that can be worried about later.)
"Do you suppose the translation matrix we use for talking with the Eliksni and Uluran would work? I think maybe if I can hear and analyze enough of this language, I could at least synthesize something..." Midas pipes up, in his comms this time. He nods, almost imperceptibly.
[ @general-kalani ]
It's different this time.
A strange thing to think, maybe, when one is being dogpiled by various Hive at the heart of a god that isn't really a god, but it's true. It's different. It feels different, the power that Janus knows and breathes and lives.
It feels far too much like an unraveling, and as he reaches for the glittering shards of prismatic power, he already knows, on some level, what's about to occur.
This does not mean he enjoys the feeling of being tossed around through layers of the multiverse like the time Caiatl figured out that if she installed a Launch Gate on the Tower, she could watch various Guardians fling themselves through the air at high speeds for no other reason than boredom.
He is also fairly sure that the Hive Knight shouldn't be able to come with him. Maybe it's because the thing had been in the middle of trying to strangle him when he'd finally wrapped his fingers around the prismatic shard.
There's not really time to worry about it though, not when he feels himself hit something more solid than the borders of realities and fucking ka'ra but that hurt, but the Knight is still trying very hard to kill him and there's no time.
He kicks it in the thorax, sends it over his head, rolls with it and then uses his knife to hit it in the face until it stops moving.
Fucking Hive.
Now that that's dealt with, he takes a moment to catch his breath, lifting his head to take in where he's found himself this time, only to freeze at the crowd of Awoken staring at him.
What the fuck.

// Hi! I'm Jack. This is the pinned post for clancabur, and has my rules, a link to bios for my muses, and a taglist. It also has a list of potential triggers you might find here.
"What is a Guardian?" "To answer that, I must tell you a story.
"Once, there was a garden, before the existence of all things. This garden was creation, infinite and ever-growing, ever-dying. This garden was tended by two impossible beings; a Gardener and a Winnower.
"The Gardener nurtured new growth. The Winnower used its knife to shear away the old and dead, taking these cleaved things from the garden. This was its nature.
"But a thing whose nature is to take is ever-hungry, and gradually the knife became a sword, cutting deeper and deeper, until the garden bore so many scars it could hardly be called a garden anymore.
"So here is the truth, then;
"A Guardian is the Gardener's answer to the Winnower's knife."

RULES
Communicate!! My #1 rule for rp is communication. If you're upset, want to change something, just having fun- please tell me!
My memory is worse than a goldfish's. Literally. Please don't hesitate to remind me of things! In fact, please remind me of things. Help. What day is it.
Godmodding: don't do it. If you absolutely need something to happen, see rule #1. Also, please tell me if I accidentally do this!
My muses are fickle, stubborn, and uncooperative. I can only do so much to wrangle them. As such, my replies can be sporadic and unpredictable- but I will do my best to reply asap!
I have anxiety. So much anxiety. Please be patient with me.
I tend to write very stream-of-consciousness, with many asides and tangents, which often results in long, multi-paragraph replies. Don't feel pressured to match me, although too many one line replies tend to sap my motivation.
Assume my muses come from a different canon than yours. By which I mean; relationships, motivations, circumstances and even experiences may be different than you expect.
On shipping; it's great! It's fun! Talk to me first. As long as it fits my muse, odds are I'll be happy to ship, but I prefer to talk it out first. Also, as a multishipper, I rarely do 'exclusive' ships.
On NSFW; I don't mind it, but I'll probably do a fade to black to keep anything too spicy off this blog. However, I'm fine with something more explicit in dms.
Check the potential triggers, and if you need something tagged, let me know. Also tell me if I tagged something incorrectly!
Last but not least, be kind and have fun!

Arkades

BASICS
Name; Arkades be'Cabur Species; Human (Mandalorian) Age; 250/300+ Gender; Trans male, he/him Sexuality; Demiromantic bisexual Callsign/Alias; Arkades, "Iron Lord", "Old Oak" Class; Warlock Subclass; Shadebinder (Stasis), Dawnblade (Solar) Clan; Cabur Ghost; Kote, she/her
-
APPEARANCE
Physical Basics; Lightly tanned skin, jade green eyes, and grey hair that he keeps combed back. He used to wear it shoulder-length but keeps it shorter now. He's tall and deceptively thin; he looks like a twig, but it's just his height hiding his real muscle definition. Tattoos/Scars; He has a tattoo of a flowering vine that goes all the way down his spine, but other than that, no. The only scars he has are small ones from his life before being Risen. Posture; He has a tendency to settle into something like a military at-rest pose when he's not paying attention, and either crosses his arms or clasps his hands at the small of his back. He doesn't really 'lounge', and tends to keep a rigid pose even when relaxed.
ATTITUDE
Personality; Generally, Arkades is level-headed and practical. He listens and learns before he acts, whether in combat or in a simple chat. He's seen as gentle, and compassionate, and kind- and while he is these things, he is also perfectly capable of being ruthless and cruel if those he loves are threatened. He has a tendency to parent, even if you're older than him, and he's very good at it. Likes; Like most Mandos, he adores children, and adopted two of his own- Odyssey and Janus. He's also fostered a number of New Lights, and he enjoys helping and teaching them. Also like most Mandos, he enjoys fighting and various weapons. He likes reading and learning, as well, and is voracious in his search for new- and especially forbidden- knowledge. Dislikes; He hates people who would harm children, and he hates people with no code of morals or honor. On a simpler note, he despises poorly made tea. Strengths; Since he has a lot of experience with warfare and tactics, he's very good at planning things out. He has a hundred contingencies for any situation, and even if he doesn't have one, he's good at coming up with one on the fly. He's also just plain physically sturdy, and since his armor is made of beskar, he's damned hard to kill. Weaknesses; He doesn't have many, since there's not much trauma to exploit, nor does he have any physical weaknesses. However, if he's somewhere he can't reach his ade (sons), he will get very lonely and morose, and is more susceptible to manipulation. Also, if you can trick him into making an oath or promise, he won't break it even if you reveal your true colors (in most cases; hurt kids and he won't hesitate to end you), because his own code of honor prevents him from breaking his word and dishonoring himself. Motivations; Aside from protecting his family and the nau'ade (New Light, not canon Mando'a), he's motivated by a hunger for knowledge. Literally, he craves learning; the more forbidden and esoteric the better.
KIT
Armor; Mandalorian helmet, Winter's Guile (no ornament), Technologic Robes, Wrath Trail Boots, Rite of Refusal. His coat is a sage green, with the rest of his armor made of brown leather and dark brown or blue-grey cloth. His helmet and any other metal is painted bronze. Weapons; Exit Strategy, a submachine gun. The Fourth Horseman (no ornament), a shotgun. Temptation's Hook, a sword. He's pretty good with most weapons, but he prefers a good, solid shotgun. Ghost Shell; Kote's shell is the Upward Climber shell, though the green is much more faded and the blue is a chipped gold, and it's a sort of dull, rusted bronze instead of grey. Sparrow; Roach-VGH Jumpship; Deep Space Hauler Skills; As a historian and a scientist, Arkades knows the working theory of a number of things, from Hive magic to nuclear physics to local myths. He's not an expert in many things, though. He's good with languages, and picks them up relatively quickly (I as the mun do Not, though, so please go easy on me-). He's fantastic at combat of most types, especially hand-to-hand, fencing, and sharpshooting. He also knows how to take care of kids of any age from most species.
BACKSTORY
I don't have as much penned down in Arkades' backstory as I do for his boys. I know that he's an Iron Lord, and I know that he's Mandalorian. I do not know how a Mandalorian ended up in the Destiny universe, why he remembers being Mandalorian, or how/why he was Risen by a Ghost.
What I do have in terms of backstory is that he was Raised in the early Dark Ages, a few decades before Dice and Janus, joined up with the Iron Lords, adopted his boys, survived the Fall of the Iron Lords (mostly because he stepped back from field work to be a hermit), and ended up at the City teaching New Lights.
I think he probably shows up in Janus' story in the background, but he's more of a support character, so there's no specifics.

Odyssey | "Dice"

BASICS
Name; Odyssey "Dice" be'Cabur Species; Awoken (Reefborn) Age; 210+ Gender; Yes, he/they/star/starself (usually 'he') Sexuality; Also yes. Callsign/Alias; Dice, "Hurricane" Class; Warlock Subclass; Stormsinger (Arc), Shadebinder (Stasis) Clan; Cabur Ghost; Ceres, she/they
-
APPEARANCE
Physical Basics; Pale blue skin, seafoam eyes, and silver-white hair that hangs around his shoulders, with excess bound in a high ponytail. His hair is pure chaos (and what I affectionately call 'anime hair'). He's tall and built like a brick shithouse, and definitely should not be able to move as fast as he does. Tattoos/Scars; The only tattoo he has is on his back in white ink, and it's a tattoo of the constellation Sagittarius. It's nearly invisible against his skin. As for scars, he doesn't tend to accumulate as many, because he doesn't think about his deaths and what it means as much as Janus does. He does have one starburst scar that's just above his left eye, that trails up into his temple. Posture; He likes to be seen, so he'll often deliberately take up space, and he moves a lot; shifting his weight, using his hands and arms as he talks, this man cannot stay still to save his life. Sometimes literally. Tends to drape himself over nearby people the way Janus does objects.
ATTITUDE
Personality; Endlessly curious and endlessly cheerful. He's very smart but he's also so, so stupid sometimes. A very social being, he's got a grin and a good word for everyone, and he flirts incessantly. Can and will use seduction as a negotiation tactic. Absolutely no shame, enjoys life to the fullest and has no time for regrets. Though people see this and assume he's just a shallow playboy, he's actually deeply compassionate and considerate, and takes most things very seriously. He also has a tendency to go cold and closed off when angry, which is deeply unnerving considering his usual boisterous personality. Likes; Like his buir (father) and most of his adopted people, he adores children, and has five of his own- two from his marriage before his death, and three from an unclear father some time after being Risen. He loves them more than life itself. Besides his kids and his family, he also likes sex, reading, and racing Sparrows. Dislikes; Something he hates above everything else is being alone. He's also not fond of complete silence, and he doesn't like feeling trapped in confined spaces, though it's not quite an outright phobia. Strengths; Due to sheer charm and a good sense of people, he's very good at communicating with people, for a variety of purposes; negotiation of a trade or truce, comforting people, or plain old manipulation. He has a lot of courage and is great at getting things done. Weaknesses; His compassion and sheer joy in being social often means he has a hard time walking away from situations; he gets too invested in both the situation itself and the people involved. Also, he has a weakness for a pretty face and a nice smile. Though his courage helps him persevere in the face of poor odds, he also has a tendency to jump in headfirst without planning anything, and he's not great at planning on the fly. (Thankfully, meticulous strategist that Ceres is, she helps mitigate this weakness.) Motivations; Dice just loves life. He loves living, and people, and experiencing everything, even the bad things. He's constantly driven forward by a desire to experience more, to see and learn and do things. As well, he's motivated by a desire to protect his family and make a safer, better world for his kids to grow up in.
KIT
Armor; Crown of Tempests (Crown Joules ornament), Tangled Web Gloves, some combination of the Pathfinder and Meridian Constellation Robes, Meridian Constellation Pants, and the Stagnatious Rebuke bond. His armor is primarily white leather and dark blue cloth patterned with white, as well as pale blue cloth and ice-like crystals instead of metal. Weapons; Riiswalker, a shotgun. Thundersprite, a pulse rifle (custom built for him by Janus), and D.A.R.C.I., a sentient sniper rifle. He favors Thundersprite, but he's actually best just with his hand-to-hand. Ghost Shell; Ceres' shell is the Dreamer's Shell, no color changes. Sparrow; Aurum Pace Jumpship; Vestian Hawk Skills; Besides people skills and seduction, he's a skilled fighter, especially in fistfights. He's also half-decent with probability and future-predicting, though he doesn't like doing it because it gives him a headache. More practically, he's good at technology, his connection to Arc helping him figure out how things are connected and powered, which makes it easier to tinker. He's absolutely awful at singing though.
BACKSTORY
Odyssey is somewhat unusual in that he only died shortly before Ghosts started Raising their Guardians, and that people who used to know him are still alive, rather than being long dead like most Guardians.
Odyssey used to be a Corsair by the name of Orijale Sa, and he worked closely with Prince Sov's Crows, to the point he was considered an 'honorary Crow' and often personally working alongside the Prince himself.
Orijale died on an expedition to Earth, where he was eventually found and Risen by his Ghost, Ceres. As he remembered nothing, it took him centuries to reconnect with his first family- all the way until Janus first traveled to the Reef, in fact.
Until then, though, he spent most of his time wandering, trying to learn and avoiding other Risen, until he got caught up in a scuffle between an Iron Lord and a Warlord, and saved the Iron Lord's life. That Iron Lord was Arkades, whom immediately adopted the lost and confused Odyssey.
Not too long after that, Janus came along, and Odyssey took to being an ori'vod (big brother) with delight.
Odyssey's timeline is much less planned out than Janus', because Odyssey isn't the main character/the "Young Wolf", but Odyssey mostly spent his time kicking around in the background during the events of the games, helping Janus out sometimes and mostly pursuing his own studies.

Janus

BASICS
Name; Janus be'Cabur Species; Human (Punjabi) Age; 200+ Gender; Trans male, he/they Sexuality; Demisexual Callsign/Alias; Janus, "Orrery", "Young Wolf" (etc) Class; Hunter Subclass; Prismatic (All), Nightstalker (Void), Threadrunner (Strand) Clan; Cabur Ghost; Midas, she/her
-
APPEARANCE
Physical Basics; Tanned skin, sulfur-yellow eyes, and dark brown hair in messy curls. Short and very lean, almost worryingly so, though this does not impact his strength. Tattoos/Scars; Due to my headcanons about Guardians being self-actualizing, his body doesn't keep tattoos very well. If he has something he wants to remember, he uses scarification. Notable scars include; the scars from a top surgery he didn't need after being Risen but felt weird without the evidence of, a bullet scar in the exact center of his chest, winding knife scars around his right bicep, a handprint burn scar around his left bicep, as well as several more generic scars from his more traumatic deaths. Posture; He has a tendency to slouch, sinking into the background and draping himself over various furniture and surfaces, except when he feels he needs to make an impression, where he will instead keep his shoulders back and head high.
ATTITUDE
Personality; Janus is so, so sad and so, so angry. He doesn't talk much due to a severe injury to his throat shortly after first being Risen, instead preferring to sign or let Midas speak for him, which makes his personality somewhat difficult to discern sometimes since he almost never removes his helmet and tends to stay very still. He doesn't like interacting with people, preferring to get the job done and move on to the next, but if forced into extended interaction, he'll be blunt, short, and borderline rude. He's capable of politeness, and will use it if he feels it necessary, but he finds most social niceties to be tiresome. Despite his prickly, weary exterior, he's incredibly compassionate, which is why it hurts so much to keep losing people and why he's essentially a walking mess of grief. He has a deep-rooted urge to keep moving, and has a lot of trouble sitting still without a specific mission to complete. He also sees himself more as a weapon than a person. Likes; He adores his family, above all else. He also loves his friends, especially Cayde and Eris, and his complicated partner, Crow (and, previously, Uldren). More simply, he likes crafting weapons, exploring, and warm cloaks. Dislikes; Loathes Savathun, and isn't too happy with the Traveler, either. Despises Ahamkara (and most other dragons), and has a general distaste for royalty, though that's been fading of late. Strengths; Janus is essentially a powerhouse of Light. Due to circumstances elaborated on in the 'Backstory' section, he is, himself, a source of Light, and cannot be incapacitated by cutting off his connection to the Traveler. He's seamlessly skilled in numerous fighting styles, able to adapt himself to any combat situation with ease. He has a Knowing, a knack for seeing and learning things he shouldn't have any way to know. He's resourceful, able to live off the land no matter what terrain he finds himself in. Weaknesses; He's fucking awful at communication. He can't ask for help to save his life, and he has a nasty habit of wallowing in guilt. He's also essentially a walking mess of fault lines, so if you can hit one of those, it would completely and utterly shatter him, with mixed results (breakdown, or breaking something else, occasionally reality). He's also completely incapable of just stopping, of letting himself rest, and has to completely wear himself down to get any sleep at all that isn't full of nightmares. Motivations; His love is nearly as great as his grief, and these two things drive him to his limits and well past in his striving to keep Humanity, it's allies, and Earth safe from harm. As long as he has something to love, he'll keep doing everything he can to protect it.
KIT
Armor; Iron Companion Mask, Errant Knight 1.0/Meridian Constellation Gloves, Shadow Specter, Orpheus Rig (Calliope's Lullaby ornament), Dynamo Current Cloak. The metal is a sort of ivory white, almost pearl-like, with the leather and cloth being various shades of black and grey, except his cloak, which is a dark purple. Everything but the cloak has gold accents. Weapons; Ace of Spades (no ornament), a hand cannon. Point of the Stag, a compound bow. Quickfang, a sword. He treasures Ace of Spades, but is better with Point of the Stag. Ghost Shell; Midas' shell is the Aggressive Shell, though her colors are black and a mottled grey instead of dull golden-bronze. Sparrow; Argent Turbo Jumpship; N33-DL Skills; Aside from resourcefulness, tenacity, and combat skills, he's also a talented weaponsmith. He's got no interpersonal skills at all, but practical skills are something he picks up quickly, though he can't swim (or fish) to save his life.
BACKSTORY
Janus was first Rezzed in a broken escape pod somewhere between Earth and Europa. Given he had no protection from the vacuum of space, he died again immediately. This was the extent of his experience with existence until he finally crashed on Earth during the Dark Ages, whereupon he proceeded to scream until he literally couldn't anymore. (This is why his throat is permanently injured).
Largely gone mad from... all that, he scrounged out a shit living from the wilderness until a Warlord named Argon found him. She took him in and shaped him into a weapon, and when he eventually got sick of her cruelty and bit the hand that fed, Argon met her final death at his hand, leaving him as the Warlord in the area. Knowing nothing but cruelty and a feral urge to kill, this did not end well for the few civilians there, though Midas did her best to keep his attention focused outwards, on his borders, and away from them.
Eventually he met his family, his brother Odyssey and his buir (father) Arkades, who essentially rehabilitated him like a feral kitten- extremely thick gloves and being burrito'd and all. Janus learned nearly everything he knows from them, including compassion, tactics, and language.
He stayed with Arkades (an Iron Lord) up until about ten years before the first game takes place. Janus had tracked down some sort of enemy (I'm still not sure on this, torn between Vex for their time fuckery and Ahamkara for the vibes) which resulted in him being sort of... forcibly re-deaded? Unrisen? Regardless, Midas found him again in Old Russia and Raised him for the first time again, kicking off the events of the first game.
From there, events proceeded according to the games.
This is where it diverges into AU territory; the first time around, Janus experienced the 'bad ending', where he and everyone he loves lost to the Witness. The struggle between the Witness/Black Fleet and the Traveler literally tore apart reality, fracturing it like a pane of glass, and Janus- the last living thing in the area, at that point- sort of got... caught up in all the paracausal energy, gaining his unique abilities, before falling through the cracks and ending up back in Old Russia, at the beginning again.
He has so many aus, but the ones that are easily adapted for this blog are the Everybody Lives AU (exactly what it sounds like) and the Wings AU (not quite exactly what it sounds like- its complicated).
