i think the reason pjo is so fun to reread for me is because its babys first classical ideas unpacking analysis. like its easy to understand whats going on because its for kids, but the ideas arent so simple, so its a nice break from the other texts i read for class/fun which are so dense with meaning and so take longer to fully digest and understand

to me the obvious reason is the double edged sword of fetishization of japan and anti chinese sentiment but still its weird
hmmmmm the concept of big hero 6 wrt the “japanification” of san francisco is so… weird? like a. the city of san francisco has the oldest established chinatown in the united states and the earthquake of 1906 (the proposed split off alternate history starting point) was actually quite a boon for chinese immigrants and chinese americans who could then forge papers to naturalize themselves (which was illegal at the time) and much of chinatown was rebuilt in a “chinese” style so b. while there is a significant japantown in sf to completely ignore the chinese american community/history of sf where the actual history is so aligned with the alternate is very strange
