ctwc 2024 is this weekend!
the two agreed favorites to win the whole tournament would probably have to be alex and fractal - alex has been on fire these last few months, and fractal will look to be defending his world championship title after a ridiculous streak of wins at the start of the year!

sidnev and blue scuti are perhaps the next most likely contenders for the title! blue scuti got 3rd at the world championships last year and has since become a cultural phenomenon - and as for sidnev, she'll want to improve on her 2nd place from 2023 and win the whole thing!

but even in this new era of tetris, we can't count out the artiaga brothers... since 2020, at least one of them have made the top four, and it's usually been both of them! could andy win his first world championship, or could dog become the first and only person to win the title with two different playstyles?

with how good tetris players are getting in 2024, though, someone unexpected could always come out of nowhere and pull off an incredible bracket run! noah, myles, danv, rahmations, huff - all of these players are regulars to the top level and have potential to cause some chaos for the favorites! or maybe even... someone else???

the classic tetris world championships are taking place june 7th to june 9th, and all the action will be livestreamed on the ClassicTetris twitch page! be sure to check it out this weekend

as ctwc 2024 draws ever closer...
fractal's unbeaten streak in CTM tournaments has finally come to an end, dropping matches in april and may to pixelandy and sidnev! even still, the quality of play was unbelievably high...

the summoning salt tetris video was released a few days ago, as part of the most hype evening classic tetris has seen in a while! myles streamed games with summoning salt himself in the chat cheering him on, and managed his first ever glitched colors with a run that puts him 4th on the score and level leaderboards...

while myles played this game, the two-time world champion dogplayingtetris was on a run of his own! he reached level 145, his first ever glitched colors run too, but his 5.9 million score wasn't enough to move him up from 9th on the overall score leaderboard...

finally, a player on the rise lately - danv, part of team UK in the upcoming world championships! he's been tearing apart the established top seven, not only winning against gerald freeman but defeating blue scuti 4-1 in the ctwc paris qualifier!

the quality of play has skyrocketed lately, and anyone could make a potential bracket run in the world championships next month! watch this space for more...

april has been busy!
fractal has continued his domination over competitive tetris, with a killscreen-speed dig for the ages to win a third consecutive CTM event in the deciding game against gerald freeman...

alex t is dominating the score world records, being the first to reach "satan spawn" on the original cartridge and then crashing the game AGAIN on his very next try!

and noah "pace master" dengler achieved the first ever perfect game, with an insane 43 tetrises in a row from a level 18 start to max out the score counter with no lines wasted! give it up 👏

special mention this month goes to hydrantdude, the original rollover-er and community educator on how the game works, making a PB jump to 2.3 million! he's on the rise, and i expect to see him somewhere in the top 25 in this month's premiere poll of tetris journalists...

that's all for now! in may, i expect to see a lot of familiar faces getting back in practice as CTWC 2024 is just around the corner - i'll be giving my personal predictions on that event as it gets closer...
may the longbars be ever in your favor!
