In the piece I wanted to include some of my most memorable aspects of Magneto. I loved the fact my guy made an environment of his own in “Asteroid M” which he lifted and has floating in space. That’s just boss 💩. 🤣 The power he wields is bar none and is super strategic and poised. His helmet serves as a great example as he uses to protect himself from his adversaries who have telepathic powers. 🎯 it’s the impact he had on me when he tore out Wolverine’s bones, which contain adamantium, an impenetrable metal alloy that made Wolverine the damn near indestructible force we’ve come to know him as… except that one issue he encountered Magneto. I was left in shock at the ability and the fact he did this to my beloved underdog. But he made me respect it wholeheartedly. Magnus is a real one. Erik Magnus a ruthless real ☝🏾!

☝🏾of my ultimate favorite villains and characters of ALL TIME. Magneto aka Magnus or Erik Magnus Lehnsherr aka Max Eisenhardt. As you can see, I get deep into the history of particular comic characters and he was primary subjects I’d use when using an array of different mediums. This is the first time I’ve ever used oil for him, though. I’ve been pretty busy with a lot of other projects although I haven’t posted them yet. In between completing some commission work and other personal projects for my catalog, this became my #guiltypleasure. It was fun revisiting the reason I started to create… comics. I think a lot of artists have that story, right? Comics not only make dope imagery due to their varying backgrounds, abilities and wardrobes, but also their storylines.

What drew me to Magneto in the past was and still is his complexity. I have a thing for complex characters who exercise their grey areas. They’re simply more interesting and relatable to our human experience. The “villains” in particular hold more weight for me because we all have dark areas or grey areas where life is exercised and expressed. Magneto has a past of surviving genocide within his culture, then as a mutant. Knowing his story, you have to acknowledge his perspective let alone respect it and subsequently his actions. He brings forth the age old question - when is it best to fight fire with fire or show compassion when your very existence and others like you are threatened constantly?

People have been asking about some of the symbolism within “Clarke’s Ever-Ascending Climax: TC’s Impact” so here it goes! 🙏🏾💙🕊

While composing TC5’s piece, I utilized oil paint to make it as rich in texture, feel, and spirit as much as possible. I wanted his skin and hair to have a different sheen and glow accordingly. It also preserves the integrity of the primary part of the painting and that’s him as a human being. When crafting the jersey, the original pic is derived from my cousin’s picture which took place in practice. Ironically, he was floating the ball over Isaiah. I never asked if he made the shot over him. 😂 I’m assuming he may have, which is tough in itself, due to Isaiah’s prowess as a shot blocker. 🤐 Anywho, I decided to dress him in his home uniform not only to contrast the pure, blue background, but to symbolize him being called home to heaven.

In the same vein, I included three doves soaring representing the Holy Trinity; Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are faintly applied with minimal detail as they can be viewed as subtle clouds, too. I dwelled for awhile as I contemplated going with a crown vs a halo. So I wouldn’t take away from the main subject, being TC, I kept it subtle and combined both. I thought it’d be cool due to the composition already in place to have the most distant dove above his head flying through a clouded, smoke ring, creating the halo and pulling through the top. This organically created a crown like combo. To give some prestige, I included hues of gold to make it more regal, but could be viewed simply as the suns reflection on the cloud ring itself.

The foreground represents Boston, specifically, Dorchester, as the bronze pear that sits in the square is leaning from the right. Those are Boston buildings in the skit line as well. On the opposite side is TC’s collegiate home, in University of Kentucky. I find the library to be a really dope design and wanted to include that instead of the gym showing the scholar-athlete aspect in one with the stadium and towers in the back.

“Clarke’s Ever-Ascending Climax: TC’s Impact” || Oil & Acrylic on Canvas || 24x36” Canvas 🕊💙👑 This one was ultra-meaningful. Terrence Clarke was a beloved teammate and close friend to my younger, cousin Isaiah Jackson (@isaiahjackson22). Isaiah and I spoke few times in life, but I knew when he hit me shortly after the tragic news that TC passed Isaiah’s soul was calling for solace. I humbly told him, “Say less”. I already knew. Something to commemorate his late, great friend was in need. For this is one of the primary reasons I feel God utilizes my talents as a vessel. Isaiah sent a specific image of TC elegantly floating the ball during practice which is exactly what I’d hope he’d send for a reference pic. Witnessing him play, Terrence seemed to be graceful both on and off the court. Terrence was primed to have a bright future and seize everything he worked so hard to achieve at the next level, playing in the NBA being a rocketing start to solidify his journey. Everyone was excited to see him grow even more. Unfortunately, Terrence’s rise was cut short due to an automobile accident. However, I’m hoping this piece captures his being while aiding those closest to him, those who’ve encountered, and those who’ve admired his play and character, remember his spirit and reap the reverence of his sheer essence.
