National Pet Day may have have passed, but today is all about James: A few weeks ago he was diagnosed with Lymes Disease and a major case of Heartworm, both fatal if untreated. Treatment for puppy is extremely expensive and time sensitive and requires quite a bit of hope and trust. As a college student I have plenty of love and hope for doggo, but my resources have been expended trying to further my education. There's a link in my bio to a GoFundMe that I would love for friends and family to take a look at and share around on Facebook/Twitter so I can be able to keep my best friend around. Many of you know why he's become a Xavier resident, and he really is more of a lifeline to me than you know. There's nothing I want more than to keep his smiling face on campus for everyone to play with, and I'm throwing away my pride right now to say I need help to do that. Since it's #nationaldogday , I thought I would give some background on my little pack. Cletus (top left and bottom right) is a 3 year old pure bred Red Nose Pit who was set loose in Morgan Monroe state forest. We found him wandering around August of last year, feet bleeding from walking so long, and we let him come home so we could take him to the vet. Since then, he has been our giant baby, a lap dog, and protector from opossums. James (top right and bottom left) is my lovely pure bred German Shepherd. I adopted him in December of last year because he needed a home and I wanted to give him one. He's my baby, the one who lets me lay on him and laugh, and cry, and read, and sleep. He's got some crazy separation anxiety and is always there at the door, ready for a hug when I come home from school. He will sit there and listen to me play guitar for hours, and sprawl out on top of my legs when I'm trying to do my homework, and never leaves my room when I'm sleeping. He's my best friend and my love and will always be there when I need him. And then there's Juno (bottom middle) I adopted Juno in August of 2013. She was the smallest large dog at the humane society and was too scared and weak to come up to the cage door to see me. There were dozens of other dogs that I could have chosen, all of them twice as healthy and energetic, but I latched onto Juno because she was for me. I can't explain how it was like when I first saw her, it was like she was mine already. She didn't need to get up or try and win me over, one look from her cherry brown eyes and I knew she was mine. The day I took her home, everything was like it had been the day before, but I had a new mom. Juno was like a mom, she protected me, she stayed by my side at all times, she endured so many things just to be with me. Juno was 5 years old when she died. She had suffered from an autoimmune disease that affected her digestive system. Her last day was spent at the Martinsville Fall Foliage Festival in October of 2014. And I was proud to have made her last day amazing. They are my family, and I wouldn't be the same without them. 🐕🐕🐕

If you ever need proof that men hate women, just watch how violently and how angrily and how indignant they act when a woman says “my personal experiences combined with the experiences of my female loved ones have made me afraid of you collectively”.

“Fuck you, that’s stupid, not every man is like that.” Maybe not, but you clearly are.

When men say this, it has nothing to do with making women feel safer or changing women’s minds about men. It has everything to do with silencing women through insults and fear. It is an entirely self serving act when a man tells a woman not to fear men. They don’t care about women’s safety or peace; they care how women’s suspicion going into any interaction with them is affecting a man’s ability to do what he wants with her later.

I have never seen a man say “not all men” and come from a place of “I want women to feel safe because I want them to be happy”. It always comes from a place of “I want women to feel safe because their fear is inconvenient to me; it prevents them from going on dates with me, it makes them question my intentions when we are alone, it makes them more apt to notice when they are being treated unfairly, it makes them less likely to leave themselves vulnerable to me emotionally and physically, and it makes me uncomfortable that I may have to tell other men to behave, so I’d rather continue to harass the women who are already afraid of me by silencing them.”
