Sato Kaho as Laertes was stunning! She was so kind and sweet to Ophelia and I love how she always appears very prim and composed, in comparison to a tussled and crumpled Matsui Jurina Hamlet :0 you can see it in their hairstyles! Hamlet has her hair in a messy ponytail, if she ever even bothers to tie it at all. Her hair can be seen sticking out, which speaks to her depression and lack of motivation to work on her appearance after King Hamlet’s death. Meanwhile, Laertes has short, slicked-back hair that remains unmoving throughout the duration of the play. This represents her dutiful nature and the pressures of being a “perfect” role model for Ophelia and a “perfect” child for Polonius.

Horatio! As portrayed by Kumazaki Haruka :D she’s such a silly little Horatio. I loved her pep and energy in this production!

Paloma Contreras was such a wonderful Ophelia in this production of Hamlet! I loved the pose she did in this scene; it made her look so vulnerable and sad :(

If you were to look at the yearbooks of HarHarlem’s P.S. 24, Oliver Peck Middle School, you’ll see a Ms. Jeanette Baccay between the years of 1956 to 1973.

Colleagues would describe her as “a damn good art teacher,” but had an odd habit of disappearing and asking for substitute teachers on short notice. It was a miracle she wasn’t let go, but art teachers were in high demand, so it was better to have a flaky one than none at all. Ms. Baccay, known affectionately as “Ms. Nettie,” remained a beloved member of the Peck Middle School community and was praised by former students as “a kind teacher who never gave up on a student.”

In early 1973, budget cuts were announced to HarHarlem’s school districts, as well as the total omission of the art program. Ms. Baccay was subsequently let go.

And with that, Jeanette “Nettie” Baccay has become Spider-Clown who roams the streets of HarHarlem :] backstory under the cut!

Fun fact! She’s one of the few middle-aged spider-people in the Spider Society, as she is pushing 45. By day, she is an unassuming balloon maker and face painter. She resides in a dystopian, surrealist version of America in 1974 where any display of extreme emotion, such as crying, laughing, and screaming, is illegal. “Scientists” post-WWII determined that emotions were the root of all problems in society and, thus, America decided that emotionlessness was the solution.

Nettie was around 16 in 1945, which was when extreme emotions were outlawed. Asylums and jails became one, and this paved the way to an even more horrifically controlling government. Nettie’s “Tito Ben”—who adopted her as a baby with his wife, Tita May, when her parents couldn’t take care of her—was taken away by the government one day. Since Tito Ben fought in WWII and had PTSD, he naturally couldn’t filter his emotions to fit the new emotion laws. He was sentenced to execution.

Coincidentally, after Tito Ben’s death, a clown dressed in unusually bright colors began prowling the streets of HarHarlem.

Spider-Clown has been wanted by the FBI for 29 years. She is an “assistant to emotional extremities” and “an emotions terrorist.” Still, Spider-Clown will not stop until emotions are once again allowed to be felt, as they should be.
