Punch Drunk Magic Ch 1, P1
If asked, Carson “Carry” Jenson wasn’t much of anything to almost anyone. To his mother, he was more from her past than her present. To his step-family, he never quite fit in. To is father… well, his father was dead. To his friends a ‘good guy’, his ex-classmates helpful, his ex-boyfriends a fun fuck. And to himself, he was a failure.
But to Carry’s great aunt, he was magic. Not the literal kind, though Carry did inherit the skill from that side of the family, but the magic of family and being a part of her nephew that was still around. Auntie would happily go after anyone who made Carry feel badly about himself with her house shoe and a mean backhand. This included Carry himself.
“Ow!” Carry rubbed at his smarting shoulder. “I wasn’t even saying anything!”
“You had the look,” Auntie said as she slid her slipper back on.
Carry frowned. “I did not.”
“Did too, pacha,” Auntie said with the air of someone who knew everything.
(Carry was starting to think that she actually did.)
Carry opened his mouth to argue before thinking better of it and just eating another spoonful of the porridge that Auntie made every morning. She liked to joke that it was the only thing a cauldron was actually good for, witch stereotypes be damned.
(Auntie made her porridge in a pot.)
(But she still wasn’t wrong.)
“What are you up to today, pacha?” Auntie asked.
She called Carry ‘pacha’ more than his name. Carry could only infer what it meant; he knew nothing of the language that made up a quarter of who he was. He knew he should ask Auntie to teach him, but later, maybe. Learning magic when he was in his mid twenties instead of a small child was already hard enough.
“I’ll call Mom after breakfast and then work on those labels I talked to you about.”
Auntie snorted. Carry wasn’t sure if the derisive noise was about his mother or about his attempts to bring some clarity to the long cultivated clutter that was her corner store.
“The labels will be nice, Auntie,” Carry said, tackling the least thorny of the two options. “People won’t ask you so many of those stupid questions that you hate. And it might help them find other stuff that that might like from your spellwork.”
“Fine, fine,” Auntie said with a dismissive wave of the washcloth. (She couldn’t abide dishes just sitting in the sink.) “We see how your labels do. But if they do not work, gone!”
“Yes Auntie,” Carry said as if this was the first time he had heard that ultimatum.
Auntie gave another little sniff and added, “And if they work, you will make more.”
Carry hid his smile behind another bite of his porridge. “Yes, Auntie.”

DoMAYn Day 5 Ch 3, P 1
posting from the highseas! Masterpost
Bruce closes Leslie’s office door behind him as he steps in. She doesn’t even look up from the reports that she’s going over as she waves for him to take a seat. He does so, folding his hands as he waits for her to finish.
“Jason’s reflexes are slow, but there is already some improvement. He’ll need physical therapy to recover, and he might not recover all of the way. Also, we’ll need to get him in for an MRI and an EKG as soon as possible,” Leslie says. “Danny claims that he pulled Jason out quickly, but Jason’s been dead for months. We have to assume that there might be issues.”
“Right,” Bruce says as he rubs at his face.
“You have your own tests to run too,” Leslie points out, as if Bruce could have forgotten.
Despite the obvious, Bruce nodes. “Dick is on his way in. I’ve called in some help to check Jason’s grave without disturbing it. We’ll run DNA as soon as we’re home. But Leslie, even if he is a clone…”
“I know.” Her words are short but not unkind. “But your family deserve to know the truth, even if it won’t change how much you’ll love him.”
“Hn.”
“Don’t ‘hn’ me,” she says. “You’ll need to keep the wounds on his hands clean, but it isn’t awful. He’ll likely develop some bruises, but that is easy enough. The real challenge will be his mental state. I know that you don’t—”
“Leslie.”
“No, Bruce,” she snaps back. “You ignoring your own mental health is one thing, but this is your son—or at least close enough—who remembers dying. He needs the help of a professional. I don’t care what story you spin for the press, but find someone who can help Jason handle the fact that he died six months ago.”
Bruce takes a breath, lets it out slowly, and nods. “I will.”
“You better.” She says it like the treat it is.
“What about Danny?” Bruce asks, in part to change the conversation.
Leslie crosses her hands on top of her desk. “You are not Danny’s legal guardian.”
“Leslie.”
“Yes, Bruce?”
Bruce sighs. “I know you’ve noticed the same things I have about the boy.”
“You’re not his guardian, Bruce.”
“He pulled my son out of his own grave! He was there so that Jason didn’t have to come back alone. And he is scared,” Bruce says, temper barely in check. “He is scared. Worse, he’s confused by the fact that we care that he’s scared.”
Leslie’s chin dips as she sighs. “I know. His behavior is worrying.”
“Then let me try to help,” Bruce insists. “Let me try to pay back a little bit of what he’s done for me. If nothing else, for Jason. You’ve seen how attached he is to Danny.”
“Like a baby goose imprinting,” Leslie agrees with another sigh. She clicks open new files on her computer. “As I’ve said, his pulse and blood pressure are both worryingly low. Despite this, his reflexes are sharp. Mental acuity is a little low, but it’s late and he has every right to be tired. Also he’s a little dehydrated and could use a good meal or seven. He’s pretty much underweight for his age and height, but without records, which from the sound of it don’t exist, I can’t say if that’s a big issue or just how he’s growing. He wouldn’t let me take blood.”
It’s nothing unexpected, and Bruce nods, “Do you think that stems from him being a meta?”
“Maybe,” Leslie says even though she clearly means ‘no’. “My gut says it’s more than that. A kid doesn’t end up that confused over an adult caring about them unless they don’t have adults who care at home. There’s not enough there for me to make a report on, though. I mean, not outside of being in the middle of Gotham at this time of night, but that’s not exactly unusual around your lot. I assume you have someone looking into his home life?”
Bruce nods. “Barbara is on it.”
“Good. Keep me informed,” she says and stands. “And for now, take them both home, feed them a warm meal, and make sure they rest. I don’t care if they have to be put in a room together to keep Jason calm, you make sure that they rest, understood?”
“Understood,” Bruce agrees. It’s nothing he wasn’t going to do anyways.
“Good. I’ll be over at breakfast to get new data. With all the unknowns, the more we can track Jason’s progress the better,” she says.
Bruce stands. His hair is only messed up further as he runs a hand through it. “Thank you, Leslie.”
“Thank me by getting Jason therapy. I mean it, Bruce.”
Bruce just gives another nod and shows himself out of the office.

Alright alright alright.
Going on Big Boat tomorrow.
Going to try to do some OG work. Going to work on birb. Going to try to finish DiM. Nightbird's Song maybe? Maybe more masked? Soup?
But if I get birb done, I can start working on new dead on main and another big fic.
What are people curious for?
Dead on Main:
This new older Danny idea
Minx (gnc sex worker Danny)
The Trouble with Tuesday (aka the Fic that I'm Not Writing)
Bury the Years (Jason pulls Danny out of an ancient grave)
Catching Cold (the Fentons take Danny’s core. He runs)
Neon Adjuration (Danny is stuck in a ghost town, Jason tries to save him)
Both Ways at Once (Danny/Jason/Red Hood)
Blood Ink and Tears (pen pals)
Other:
A Hill to Die On
Another Red (vigi Danny attracts the Bats attention and care)
Tired Dads (Bruce/Dad!Constantine)
Specter of Starlight (Danny/Tim)
Shadow of a Bat sequel
Cosmas the Clone (Bruce/Dad!Danny of Damian clone)
(Remember most of these have master posts of bits over on @clockwaysadmin )

Feral anon here. As someone who has a younger sister in a relationship with someone 21 years older, here's some inspiration for how Dick might react.
My sister is a grown adult. She can make her own decisions. As long as my sister is happy, safe, and has her own bank account then that's all that matters. I still want to punch her partner in the face though. Her partners oldest kid is 4 years younger than my sister. They're lucky they live hours away cause if I met them right now I'd be real tempted to beat them in with my cane
Now that we're past that I do genuinely love the clockmaker Danny au. The horny stuff sounds nice, but the possible mirroring of crime and being dead? Jason is being pulled into this dark and dangerous new world of death and destruction. He's a young hotshot with big plans who meets this older dangerous man a la mob romance story style
(when Dick finds out hes definitely gonna shove an escrima stick up Danny's ass. Rip Danny)
LOL yeah that makes sense. Age gap isn't really my thing, but if I'm going to do it there needs to at least be *some* gap. So late 20's will be likely. Maybe a decade gap?
But Dick is still going to hate it! That's his little brother! What the fuck is someone older than him doing dating Jason?!?
Of course, they have to learn that Jason is alive first...

Honestly? I see the appeal in the whole age gap thing. It's very appealing.
But if you end up making it just platonic, or even familial, I'd read it just as eagerly as if it were romantic and/or sexual.
I'm a sucker for Older Danny actually being allowed to be an Old Man, with all the aesthetics and consequences of it, and you're one of the best authors I've seen recently that actually embraces that 💗
Awww thank you <3
And you should know that this put in my head Danny being Tim's pretend uncle with endgame Danny/Bruce. I do not have time for this =^=

Please know that I'm picturing Nick Robles pretty boy Jason for this AU.
Look if you're going to have Danny look like that, and have Jason with all his roaring daddy issues, I would love for Jason to slip up and call him Daddy. Also a contender is a a sarcastic 'sir' and looking up and his mouth going dry.
If Danny doesn't tame that brat into calling him sir, he's not doing his job right 🤣

Genuine question for Coyote City: who is Danny's clientele? I can't imagine anyone in Park Row buying/upkeeping/repairing watches all that often, that seems like more of a Diamon District thing.
Oh, no, totally most of his work is from elsewhere in the city or region. His place is less for sales and more for repair. So he will go and pick up pieces to work on or have the couriered to him.
Though he does go to pawn shops in the Alley, "rescues" pawned watches, and (if they come to him) sells them back for cheaper to their owners.

for older danny age, what if he's not even entirely sure himself anymore? maybe on paper he's 35 to match with airing time (which is a fun detail in and of itself), but he's spent enough time here and there in the ghost zone or running errands for clockwork or something and just generally existing outside of linear time (of the regular dimension) that danny doesn't/can't keep track. there's times he's spent what feels like a day in the zone but a week has passed in the real world and vice versa, so maybe it balances out but who knows. it's easier to just stick with the on-paper age even if he knows it's not entirely accurate.
add in ectoplasm/being dead keeping him physically appearing younger, but the white bleeding into his hair conversely makes him look older. plus an air of weariness and experience that also ages him in terms of presence, not to mention the beard in the drawings you have. dye the hair and shave the beard and he looks maybe around mid 20s while still carrying himself with 30+ years of existence
just, schrodingers age danny lol
(plus potential little shared experience for him and jason over not 100% knowing how old they should be bc do you count time while dead/buried/comatose/etc)
Could be! He deft spent maybe too long with Clockwork there for a bit...
@mastertorchmaster
He's probably gonna need some kind of company to help keep Park Row from being Crime Alley, too.
Hum. I think he is less hands on. More strong suggestions, creeping horrors, and possessions.
@ anon
Does Bat's know about Danny????
Does the bats even know about Jason is the real question!

Oyay okay... late 20's to very yearly 30's Danny. Benign seeming watch/clock repairman by day. Zion of Crime Alley by dark. The ghost of Park Row by death.
What look do we like? I think no matter what he wears trousers, vests, maybe some cardigans. Has a dark wood and brass cane. And of course a pocket watch.
(And paired up with a bratty reverent Jason. Danny has a snippy puppy to train to behave. 😏)

Ok But! WHAT DOES IT MEAN that crime ally is seemingly under control of a benign watch repair man?????? Is this a 'crime still exists but you gotta play by these rules' situation like Hood will/would've set up? Are their ghosts involved and do people know that if they're are??
How does Jason find out about this?
I have 50047458400 questions
BUT ALSO, how does this effect Jason's original plan? Is he harassing Batman and then going home to harass a different man with entirely different vibes? Or has he been completely sidetracked?
Oh, 100% side tracked from everything. Crime Alley was his first step! Who is this guy!? ...and why didn't Talia know about him? What else... didn't she know about?
Danny... does it a bit Red Hood like. There are rules and people not to fuck with. People need to feel safe. Violence answers to him. And there are... stories about what that means. People who never come back, who come back mad, who refuse to talk about what happened... and the faint scent of death.

I love the responses lol. Notably:
Not those kind of Daddy Issues!
That would worry the family ._.
That would worry the family >:)
Anyways, doodles.
So, um, those who follow my main will know i need a distraction. Fanfic might be easier than og work.
Considering the reverent!Jason and older!Danny who rules Crime Alley story. Question is what sort of age gap... Jason is fresh from the LOA at 19.
Danny is...?
Airing date time age of 35?
Older?
Younger?
35 but with some white starting at the temple?
What sort of Danny do we want to pin Jason down over er... be around?

This is lovely!! I love how "messy" the ink bird is. It fits so well! Esp with the pops of green. I can't wait to see what quotes you choose!
This is a mock cover of the absolutely amazing PaperPuffin (A03) or @clockwayswrites (tumble here) of her recently started Danny Bruce fanfic A Thing with Wings. Thank you so much PaperPuffin!
This is heavily inspired by the cover of a very specific cover of grief is the thing with feathers (see below) that, as soon as I read the 2nd chapter of the fic, I suddenly had a feeling of deja vu and went searching for... and found!

At the monet the cover only has two quotes on the front but the plan is too add more as the chapters update because there will be no shortage with such a fantastic author!
This was designed using the original art of the ink drawn bird which has been very slowly added too with various elements from Canva. It took about 1 hour and 15 minutes with changing all the colours around as I wanted them and trying and cutting things (I originally had more floating eyes but did not like them).
I have designed it with the same format so it is a wrap around. I really like this fic so far and tbh I'd never even considered Danny Bruce but now I see it. Love the whole idea of it all and can't wait to read more.
Keep fanfic free!
