2nd Dirigo Film Festival

As part of my foundation degree in film, I helped run the 2nd Dirigo international short student film festival. The festival happened on the 28th of January 2016 at the Cube Microplex in Bristol but worked behind the scenes prior to that on the promotional materials and social media marketing.

For the promotional materials, I rebranded the materials used the year before to reflect better the themes that we wanted to convey as a festival. I stripped the design right back to create something simple that conveyed the meaning of Dirigo, which is Latin for I direct film. We used this branding across all of our social media accounts and print-based media.

In terms of social media marketing, I was the lead manager of the twitter account. My role started with persuading other students / recent graduates that this festival was the one they wanted to be apart of. Towards the end of the submission period, I started posting daily to create a sense of urgency which resulted in our overall submissions doubling. Once we closed submissions, my role changed to convincing people that this was the perfect film festival for them to spend an evening at. Both the production leading up to the grand night and the festival evening itself was considered a success.

St Paul’s Weston

As a volunteer, I work with a team of people within the church to help with the Media and Marketing. My main tasks included updating the social media, responding to queries, photographing events/ services alongside filming and editing the weekly video news. The video news is something that gets shown across all of the weekly services as well as posted on our facebook page. A lot of the content I produce goes up on the church social media. However, we also factor in how well the content would work outside of the social media on things such as Google my Bussiness and the church website alongside print-based media. 

Things I have produced content for/ photographed are things such as the weekly news, Carols by Candlelight, alpha Promos and Craig Sinclair's ordination.

It hasn't quite settled in that tomorrow I'll be back in London for four days. I want to spend a lot of time there aimlessly wandering the streets of the city. Though I also have a small list of things I want to do there such as go back to the Tate Modern, ride on the DLR, visit China town but also admire the view of London from the Sky Garden. This photo is one that I took back in the summer of 2016 from the outside of the sky garden before I knew what it was. I just thought at that time that it was a pretty building that I needed to photograph. So to know that I'm actually going up it makes 2016 me super excited. Also, this is possibly one of my favourite / best photos I've ever taken as it some ways shows the sort of skills I have and the things I love to photograph. I was on a district line train heading for #ealingbroadway when it pulled into #earlscourt. As the people cleared I found myself presented with a few short moments to capture the station. I didn't know what I wanted to photograph as I put my eye up to the viewfinder. All I knew was that I needed to seize the moment and somehow ended up with some photographs that I love. For now, I'm just posting my favourite one as the other one I'd like to post doesn't work so well as square. The Dorchester shot on a 40mm lens. When shooting this I wanted so badly to get the "perfect" shot. One which just had the middle section with the hotel sign in it nothing else. I tried so hard to not have the lavender bush in it but the composition didn't look right without it. Behind the scenes of this shot was me stood on some stone bricks in a small gap between a pond and a hedge. It was the only way I could get the 40mm to fit what I wanted into the frame. Today I went on a day trip to the city of Bath by train with some of my family. We went for a wander around the city where I enjoyed photographing the Roman architecture and viewing the Bath Abby. We also visited the house that my great grandparents owned when they were alive and went in gift shops filled with overpriced merchandise of London. The weather forecast had said it would be the hottest weekend of the year and it certainly felt that way with sun staying out all day. Would like to go back at some point to photograph the view from the top of the hill but for now, this was a good day out. Hey let’s go! The sunshine says hello. The water’s looking fine, so grab an ice cream cone. - #kerokerobonito. Last Friday I got to see KKB live at the Thekla in Bristol which is something that feels like a dream especially as they did my favourite track by them Flamingo.
