Confessions Of A Pet Owner
36 posts
I'm just a girl blogging about her pets. I'm 26 and I live in Western Kentucky. Jasmine is an 11 year old American Staffordshire Terrier, Sheila is a 6 year old Australian Cattle Dog. Nova is an 8 year old female Domestic Shorthair and Natsuko (Sukki) is an 8 year old male Traditional Siamese. We share a home with my mom, father, and brother.

Hey Everyone! :)
So, 2018 has been one hell of a year for us. In February, my brother got sick due to complications of an incredibly rare disease he has (Hirschprung’s Disease). He was hospitalized for 5 months where he suffered two mini strokes and had a major surgery done on him. One week of him being home my mom fell and broke her him. Then she developed a bed sore while at home and had to go back to the hospital. Last week my brother developed an infection and had to go back into the hospital.
Needless to say, it’s been hell here, haha.
All of the animals are doing good! Jasmine is still going strong. I hope to start updating this tumblr soon. Just hang in there with us!

Some Unfortunate News
A few weeks ago, Jasmine went back into the vet for more medicine and another round of blood work. Her levels, liver and gallbladder, tripled in a month. The vet took Jasmine back for x-rays and an ultrasound. Everything looked normal. Dr. Moore diagnosed her with the beginning stages of liver failure. She's on the same medication, as it's keeping her comfortable. She's also now on Hills Prescription liver care food.
I'm not gonna lie, that was a punch to the gut. The vet couldn't give us a timeline. It could be a year, it could be a few months.
I set up a GoFundMe before her diagnosis because we were spending $153.35 a month for medicine and blood work. Now we're spending $173.35 a month (medicine and food). Now it's to afford her comfort and anything else we'll need to make absolutely sure she's comfortable.

WE DID IT!
We got our $700! Mom was approved for $500 by care credit. $170 was from the fundraiser and I raised almost $30 more, hopefully $60 more if all goes well! I've set up an amazon wishlist of things we could use to help aid in Jasmine's recovery. http://a.co/4QGdr4P I believe that's the link, I'm on mobile right now, so if it's not, I'll have to fix it later.

STILL At $170!
Come on guys, we can do this!  We're still sitting at $170 in donations out of our $700 goal! We have roughly 14 days left to reach at least HALF of our goal. Remember, every little bit helps! Even if you can only donate the minimum of what the site allows!
If you are hesitant because you don't know if this is true, it is. Jasmine has a lump on her liver that NEEDS to be removed. From how she's been acting lately, it seems she's had it for some time and that it's been slow growing. She's back to her young self again. Wanting to chase after things, playing even!
Even if the lump is benign, it is big and without medication it is making her liver angry and it would be in her better interest to get the lump removed asap.

Jasmine Is Going To Need Surgery
It’s inevitable. She needs to get the mass removed and have a biopsy done on it.
The reality of it is, is that we can’t afford it. It’s going to cost about 700 USD. Jobs are scarce here, but we are trying out best to find one. Currently we live on one check, and it’s stretched thin as it is.
If we could just come up with even half of what we need, that would be such a great help!
If you can’t donate, SHARE. Share and find people who CAN donate. <3

She’ll Be Okay
WARNING: SOME TMI
Please note I am getting this info second hand, I was not at the vet.
Lately, Jasmine has been having green sometimes runny stool. It was off and on and she acted normal otherwise, so we thought nothing of it. When her stool came out green and greasy, we decided...

Birthdays!
Two birthdays past! One was obvious, it was Nova’s. She’s 8 years old now! Can you believe it? I still see that super scared little 4 month old kitten we found starving. Gah, she’s still ever so beautiful.
The other one was my mom’s! Mama.....

Busy Bees!

Car Rides!
So we took the dogs on a car ride. We were gone for an hour and a half to about two hours. The cats were left home alone, and Nova sulked, haha. The dogs had so much fun! We let them stop an forty-five minutes to an hour in to potty, stretch their legs, and to get a drink of nice cold water (not too cold!) in their new travel bowl.
We roll a window down just a crack for them to sniff. They whined just a bit leaving the house and coming back to the house, but for the most part they were really good. We learned that Jasmine won’t eat anything in the car unless it’s ice cream--maybe a burger, but we didn’t get anything for them but some vanilla cookies--and Sheila will definitely eat anything.
I showed my mom and brother the new dog park in town. We only drove by, I’m not letting my dogs in there if I can help it. Unless there’s absolutely no one there, too many rude people and un-socialized dogs. Plus, my dogs bombard new dogs to smell them and greet them, and the other dog might not like that, so for safety, I don’t take them.
I wish I had a new SD card and charger for our camera! I would have taken pictures! Hopefully next time! :)

Feeding Time In The Zoo
So I’ve started feeding the cats a can of tuna and a bit of dry kibble every day at dinner time (so it’s just dry kibble for breakfast). They won’t eat wet food, I’m not quite sure as to why, and I know that they normally get their water intake from their food. So I’ve been feeding them tuna, plus tuna isn’t expensive, haha.
Anyway, I bought these cute little bowls for them to use. <3 I was using small plates, but they still took up too much room.
Everyone is sleeping all day long because of this heat wave. My computers weather app says that we’re supposed to get some cooler temperatures sometime next week. We cannot wait! These poor dogs are cooped up in the house all day long. They need some walks and romp times!
I apologize for the lack of pictures, I won’t be able to post pictures again until I can replace the camera’s charger. That won’t be until end of August, beginning of September.

Back!
It’s Summer, and school has been out for me for about a month-ish now, so I’m back! It’s been dreadfully hot here in Kentucky, about mid nineties with heat indexes of over 100!! Holy cow!
So we’ve all just been staying inside, in the nice air conditioning. I hope it cools down enough to at least walk in the morning again, even if we’re only able to do that!
All is well here! Jasmine was starting to become a huge diva on her morning walks. For some reason, for the first half of it she seemed like she just wanted to go back home. She was fine, though, not hurt or stiff or anything. She’s just a little diva. ;)

Change
Well, I’m having trouble posting to tumblr. At least, posting photo’s, that is. See, I’m watermarking my photo’s before posting them here, and apparently that means that they are too big of a file size to post here. I’ll post the new link for you guys.
Also! Dogs are going to the vet tomorrow to get their nails trimmed and then to tractor supply to get some cat food! :D
Also! Started a vlogging channel over on youtube. Thought it might be a tad bit easier than always blogging, since I don’t have a phone to instantly update anyone. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsBhArrfJ53P8geKgpNDqxA

This is devastating! I’m so glad I no longer use Tidy Cats and am glad I NEVER used their new lightweight formula.
ATTENTION CAT OWNERS: DO NOT BUY TIDY CATS LIGHTWEIGHT CAT LITTER
my friend’s cat ended up with severe wheezing, a bloody nose & bloody urine, & almost died. only antibiotics & a $500 vet bill saved her cat.
she complained to Tidy Cats, & they mailed her a check for $300, but IT IS STILL BEING SOLD!!!??? a quick search of amazon reviews reveals many similar experiences of illness & death.
PASS THIS ALONG. SO FUCKED UP.

Autumn
Leaves EVERY WHERE. When my dad goes back to work, hopefully Monday, I’m going to go out and get a TON of autumn pictures of the dogs! I’m hoping to get some portraits of Jasmine, so don’t be surprised if there are a ton of pictures uploaded within the next few days. ;)
