and the answer is yes, FGO just scuffed up and overly sanitized her character.

Because Nero was such a good character. She was charming. Witty. Imperious. Passionate. Cruel. Competent. Honest– overly so.

So, long-time followers of this blog know that I’m a resident Nero fan. Fate Nero Claudius is probably one of my favorite Sabers that got a really bad rap during FGO. And so here’s my absurdly long essay post explaining why.

Funds for Haiti and Haitian Americans

A Haitian American woman with long Covid and her daughter with cancer have both been struggling to raise funds that would help them during their illnesses. Both of them live in the Midwest, which is where a lot of the most recent fear mongering has been centered.

COJEHA is a Haitian organization that provides financial support for youth, teaches agricultural skills, helps ensure children attend school, and teaches other soft life skills. They're working on building a farm with fish and vegetable crops where teaching occurs, which will also increase local access to fresh food.

P4H Global is the organization that has been working on building the canal connected to the Massacre River, another agricultural project. They have also been working to support education in Haiti, with both teachers and students.

The Haitian Community Center in Springfield, Ohio. Springfield's food bank, community health center, and a local Catholic organization that provides aid are also accepting donations.

Richard Pierrin is a journalist who has had to flee Haiti and is trying to get a visa that will allow him to work, and that doesn't end after 3 months.

Marc Henry and his family have been dealing with food insecurity for months, and are trying to get funds so they can eat, as well as supplies like livestock and fishing equipment so they can sustain themselves even after the fundraiser is done. They're close to their goal.

An elderly couple's home was damaged multiple times over the last few years and they are trying to raise funds to finish construction. They are also very close to their goal.

A fund for several families to secure plane tickets out of the country

OTRAH is an organization that helps trans Haitians and wants to expand their services to combat HIV. They don't have a gofundme, instead donations are discussed over email.

It’s actually disgusting me that people are choosing to forget about Palestine not even a full year into this ongoing genocide. Nothing is better. Nothing has slowed down. It’s just underreported. It’s just that western media outlets aren’t pretending to care. The iof is still targeting aid distribution centers, it’s still killing hundreds of Palestinians a day, it’s still preventing medical aid from entering North Gaza. So many diseases are robbing families of their loved ones. It is worse than it has ever been. Less people are talking about it now because they no longer want to be bothered to care

Good post, OP, so excuse me for adding on. Genshin has had some of its Sumeru characters named after historical figures, such as Alhaitham and Candice. That's the tip of the iceberg. Take this with a grain of salt, but IIRC Mihoyo used footage of actual indigenous people dancing as reference to their fodder enemies, who themselves are basically caricatures of tribal people—they live in huts, they have their own dances, their 'weird' culture, etc. Again, in Natlan, there are plenty of characters who were named after historical and mythological figures (one of them, Citlali, who comes from Citlalicue, an Aztec goddess.) This goes on for many other characters. I don't want to derail the conversation, because FGO really is the worst contender—I just want to point out that what Mihoyo is doing with Genshin is still a very real problem that's quickly getting there. (Also, while the stupid 'lore' reasoning for white skin is god-awful, whitewashing is still bad and doesn't need said "lore" to make it awful.)

Look, the Fate series whole "up to author interpretation" thing with mythological and historical figures and such is cute and all when they take a not currently oppressed people's thing and make them a woman instead of a man like with the most popular FSN Saber, but it becomes markedly and rapidly less cute and quite shitty actually when they now use it as excuses as to why they make people, myths, whatever who would never be white white for dumbass reasons such as "I'm a water elemental so I don't tan uwu" and disrespecting the gods of indigenous peoples by ways such as showing inaccurate, sexualized, or hell any interpretations of said gods (they'll dodge around jesus because he's popular but not the small religions apparently) among other things. People talk about Arknights and miHoYo, but I haven't seen any actual instances of the latter involving indigenous people, nor have I seen horseshitting lore excuses as to why their characters are literally whitewashing for their region, and also their characters aren't actual ass historical, mythological, and religious figures which again makes the issue much worse actually. Like yes, fgo should be scrutinized more than any other gacha game for its bullshit because it does its bullshit the worst out of all the popular ones and then some in more ways than one.
