Charities Recommended by Animal Charity Evaluators
Tumblr media
A resident of Corvallis, Oregon, Cody Gotchall graduated from Crescent Valley High School, enrolled at Oregon State University, and is now enrolled at Linn Benton Community College. In his free time, Cody Gotchall enjoys volunteering and helping animals. While the Humane Society is the most recognized nonprofit devoted to helping animals, there are many other organizations for animal lovers to support. According to the nonprofit Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE), these are the top three nonprofit organizations that offer the greatest benefits to animals: - Animal Equality is an international organization that focuses on undercover operations, grassroots outreach, and corporate outreach to end cruelty to farm animals. ACE admires Animal Equality’s ability to make significant gains with a small amount of money. - The Humane League also advocates on behalf of farm animals, striving to reform the way they are treated while encouraging people to make more compassionate food choices. - The Good Food Institute focuses on promoting and developing alternatives to meat, dairy, and egg products, and supports cellular agriculture and cultured meat companies.

CBS Series Elementary Renewed for Sixth Season
Tumblr media
Cody Gotchall is a National Honors Society graduate of Crescent Valley High School who is taking business courses through iLearn at Oregon's Linn-Benton Community College. When he isn't studying, Cody Gotchall enjoys catching up on his favorite shows, including Elementary. Despite evading mention in CBS's renewal announcement in March, Elementary will return for a sixth season in 2017. The series stars Johnny Lee Miller as a modern-day Sherlock Holmes working in New York alongside Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson. It was renewed in May. Although the show’s ratings have declined in recent years, it continues to do well internationally and on off-network online streaming services. These strengths were major reasons for its renewal. Season 5 episodes averaged only 7.4 million viewers, and the show was CBS's lowest-rated drama among adults between the ages of 18 and 49. However, according to CBS Corporation CEO Leslie Moonves, it made the network approximately $80 million in profit in 2015. Although the show was renewed, Season 6 of Elementary could begin midseason as opposed to its usual fall premiere.

Bruce Springsteen - a Humble Background and Social Justice Commitment
Tumblr media
Attending Linn-Benton Community College, Cody Gotchall has completed a STEM curriculum that spans mathematics and science, and he is also keenly interested in data analytics. In his free time, Cody Gotchall enjoys listening to music and is particularly drawn to the social justice message in many of Bruce Springsteen’s songs. Speaking with CNN on the occasion of the release of his album Wrecking Ball, Springsteen spoke of his early family background in blue collar New Jersey, in a household led by a father who held odd jobs much of his life. With his father struggling to find work, a “crisis of masculinity” occurred and the house was like a “minefield.” With the release of 2012’s Wrecking Ball, Springsteen hewed close to the pathway pioneered by iconic songs such as “Born In the USA,” which seemed to offer an anthemic celebration of American life but, when looked at more closely, portrayed the trials of a Vietnam War veteran unable to adapt to the reality of life in the country he had fought for. Songs on the album focus on social issues such as governmental responsibility, corporate excess, and joblessness, and offer what Springsteen has described as a “questioning, often angry sort of patriotism.“

Safe Haven Humane Society’s Senior Outreach Programs
Tumblr media
A college student who enjoys STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses, Cody Gotchall lives in Corvallis, Oregon. When he is not studying, Cody Gotchall has given his support to the Safe Haven Humane Society (SHHS), which focuses on providing shelter to and rehoming animals. Not just a humane shelter, SHHS has a number of programs reaching out to those in the community. One of these caters to seniors. The SHHS senior outreach program is comprised of three initiatives. Pet Therapy. A service dedicated to seniors living in retirement communities and nursing homes that don’t allow pets, Pet Therapy sees SHHS volunteers visit senior communities on a monthly basis, alongside adoptable and alumni animals, so seniors can enjoy the company of these temporary pets and their companions. Pet Food Program. In partnership with Meals on Wheels, SHHS provides additional pet food to senior citizens who may have difficulties procuring an adequate amount of food for their animals. In addition to donations from individuals, the program is made possible by pet food donated by Petco, Target, Coastal Farms, and a collection of local businesses. Seniors for Seniors. This program halves the price of pet adoption fees for senior citizens who are over 60 and are adopting a dog or cat that is older than five.

Pat Casey Talks about the 2017 Oregon State Baseball Season
Tumblr media
Since middle School, Cody Gotchall has closely followed the Oregon State University baseball team. Cody Gotchall considers coach Pat Casey one of the best in college baseball. Last year's season was a fairly interesting year for Casey, as he was heavily and publicly pursued by the Texas Longhorns, yet he decided to extend his contract with Oregon and comes into the 2017 season with high expectations for his team. Casey is not the only one expecting good things from the Beavers, who have been in the top 10 of several college baseball preseason polls. In a recent interview, Casey discussed what fans might expect from the 2017 team. Last year, at the very start of the season, he said that he had only one person who would definitely be in the pitching rotation. He said this year is a bit different, as both Luke Heimlich and Bryce Fehmel had excellent performances last year and are prime candidates to be a regular part of the pitching staff. Max Engelbrekt, who returns with a great deal of experience, was another player Casey brought up. A perhaps surprising name when the rotation was discussed is Jake Thompson, who did not have the best season last year from an outsider’s perspective. According to Casey, however, he has matured a great deal and will be an important player to watch.
