It's always hard to go on a diet. Too many temptations abound, and even your friends constantly play the devil's advocate and encourage you to cheat! I'm doing the Cohen program right now and decided to start this blog to help me monitor my progress and discourage myself from cheating. Join me in my journey. :)

Spur of the moment dinner out of the house. Managed not to cheat on the diet - pan-fried lapu-lapu fillet with a huge mound of mixed greens. (at Café 1771)

No cheat diet, day 3
Back on the Cohen program for the month of May because of 2 things: a) I've gained a few pounds recently with all the good food I've been eating; and b) I just know that I'll gain a few pounds in June when I go on vacation. I encountered my first temptation today when my sister wanted to pass by Dairy Queen for a blizzard - I managed to restrain myself from ordering one for myself! So what has kept me going and stopped me from cheating these last few days is the thought of all the good eats I'll be having in Italy for 3 whole weeks. Pizza, pasta, wine, gelato, truffles, cheese, and so many more! Can't wait - and I'm sure it will be worth the sacrifice I'm making this month. :)

I love ceviche! Will definitely try this recipe once I'm on the maintenance part of my Cohen program again.

A vegan take on the refreshing appetizer, ceviche! Perfect for Cinco de Mayo!
You can find this recipe on Vegan Yack Attack, along with a round-up of other Cinco de Mayo foods!

Coping with stress eating
One of the reasons that I've gained weight in the past is that I'm a stress eater. I gorge on chocolate when I'm stressed at work (and boy, work can be stressful almost everyday!). I feast on Ben & Jerry's when I'm heartbroken. Whenever I'm depressed or stressed out, I automatically reach for a chocolate bar. Talk about low EQ. :) So here's a new trick that I've taught myself on how to cope with work stress (by far the most common issue) - I leave the office and take a walk around the block. Thankfully there's a park nearby, so I can sit on a bench and take in the greenery in peace. Bliss!

Chicken breast en papillotte (marinated chicken breast cooked en papillotte style with julienned mushrooms, cabbage, and zucchini with green pepper purée). Glad that #nacicomfortfood has reopened in Fort so I can easily eat out without cheating on my diet! :) #cohen (at Naci Comfort Food)

Doesn't look like much but surprisingly good. Experimented a bit - seasoned the chicken with salt, pepper, cumin, garlic powder, and cilantro. #cohen
