the crows are so young. they're so young. they make fun of wylan for playing the flute and being a bad criminal. they love waffles. they mock kaz's bad haircut. matthias mentally addresses kaz only with insults for nearly the whole two books. they have all been jealous of each other showing other people attention at some point -- jesper is jealous of anyone kaz gives attention to. matthias is jealous of anyone nina gives attention to. kaz is jealous of how comfortable the others are with each other. wylan is jealous of kuwei flirting with jesper -- they're all insecure at some point. nina gets mad at them for eating her cookies. they're all horny and fantasize about their crushes while actively running for their lives. they all want to kill the woman they kidnapped because she's whiny. they tease inej for sounding philosophical. they have secret hand signals. jesper and nina make sex jokes all the time and love to make others blush. they spite each other. they threatened to tattletale on each other to each other. they compete over who has the biggest bounty on his head. inej uses "being a matthias" as an insult. kaz and jesper have a physical scrap and have to be pulled apart by an Adult. i adore them so much

I have so many moments from the N2N proshot that I LOVE but one that really stuck with me is the point during my favourite song(s) "You Don't Know/I Am The One" when Diana starts having a full breakdown, and the camera cuts to a 3 second shot of Natalie upstairs, crying with her hands over her ears. I can't even describe the absolute gut punch that camera shot gave me. Like I already have chills and am on the verge of tears from that part of the song alone and then WHAM punch in the stomach. I saw too much of myself in Natalie in that clipš

One thing I havenāt seen discussed much is the fact that Gabe is actively crying during Iām Alive (Reprise) (or at least has very recently stopped). Like tear tracks, spiky eyelashes, red eyes, the whole thing. I think this is such a cool choice and I can think of several possible interpretations:
- Itās an emotionally heightened moment where Gabe is (if we see him as having his own emotions) feeling a lot of relief as well as anger and a desperation to be seen and crying from heightened emotion works well for the younger version of the character. Alternatively it also just adds an extra layer of emotional instability to what is already an extremely emotional moment for the family
- This is Danās āversionā of Gabe who is therefore crying as that is what Dan remembers him doing. He has none of Dianaās delusions of him growing up, so when he remembers Gabe he sees him crying as he did in the weeks/months before he died
- Implies that while Gabe has been shut up in his little box heās been crying watching everyone else go about their lives
- This comes just after How Could I Ever Forget and the broken music box and is a further manifestation of Diana and Danās pain and guilt (could also see it as Gabe grieving his own death if you want to perceive him as more independent and ārealā)
- Gabe is at the height of his power over the family here and the tears maintain that air of vulnerability that characterises Jack Wolfeās Gabe as compared to previous versions
There has to be a reason for it imo because to enter in that state Jack would have to be standing offstage crying his eyes out (or like inhaling an onion or something). That takes effort and has to be deliberate. (Unless of course he was simply sobbing at Caissie and Jamieās How Could I Ever Forget in which case same how relatable). Anyway I would love to discuss/hear your thoughts!

Jack Wolfe deciding they wanted to play Gabe as a real person with real emotions is I think objectively the best choice. like I donāt think Gabe is real at all, but we see Gabe from Dianaās perspective for most of the musical and to Diana he is a real person with real emotions, so it makes sense to play him that way and when we donāt see him from Dianaās perspective (in songs like āIāve Beenā and āI Am The One (Reprise)ā) the emotions that Gabe portrays (sadness and guilt in āIāve Beenā and anger and desperation in āI Am The One (Reprise)ā) are those of Dan. Theyāre all the feelings that Dan has actively been repressing showing you that Gabe is grief personified. like i feel as though if Gabe were played as simply a device for Dianaās mental illness or as purely sort of sinister and vindictive, it takes away the fact that navigating mental illness and grief is extremely difficult and by Gabe being portrayed as a real person it makes it easier for the audience to see why the Goodmans make the choices they do and sympathize with them rather than it being clear when something is a ābadā choice because we have been viewing Gabe as sinister and simply Dianaās illness.
