Alright here’s my hot fantasy lore take.

Unless your story actually focuses on slavery, and I don’t mean “We can kill some slavers for an easy 200 gold” I mean makes use of and commentary on it, you are always better off cutting that shit. It’s such an intense and heavy thing that people throw in just for “well it’s historical” and it often reads callous and cruel not just in universe but how they treat it as a story element.

Like they’ll get rid of ‘historic’ racism, sexism, land ownership laws (which fed into all the other ills of society) and anything else that makes the world too harsh to public but go “Yeah no slavery is something we must have.”
