A MIND MAP ABOUT MIND-MAPPING
If you know me, you’d know that I am a highly visual person. I love learning from images and layouts, and my spatial intelligence is probably my strongest type of intelligence. Because of this, I often use mind maps to study, and so do a lot of other people. However, there are people who don’t really know how to make and utilize a mind map effectively. That’s what this post is for! Here’s how you can make your mind maps more effective and thus enable you to retain more information. (P.S. you might wanna zoom in)
By no means am I an expert in mind-mapping; these are just some habits I have when making a mind map that successfully does its job of helping me remember the topics I’m studying.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop an ask!
xx jo

Language change!
I’m going to study Chinese this semester instead of continuing with Japanese. It’s just not bringing me as much joy as it used to and it hasn’t for a long while now. I’ll still want to study Japanese in my own time, but I want to do it at my own pace. Self study isn’t for everyone but I like not being hampered by assessments and exams. I don’t like others testing me, although I derive satisfaction from testing myself.

I’m so over studying Japanese. This was the same feeling I had with French. There comes a time when you hit an enthusiasm plateau and you wonder why you keep slogging through the snow. The exam is tomorrow morning so I need to cram four chapters of kanji, grammar and verb conjugations before then 😂 I mean I’ve studied during the semester but because with Japanese, everything is taught in silo, you don’t get to frequently use what you’ve previously learned.
I’m always comparing my study experience between French and Japanese. I feel French is taught more organically, you build on what you’ve previously learned and the previous material is incorporated with each new topic. But with Japanese, it’s so easy to forget the last ten chapters because each new chapter focuses on that chapter’s grammar only without incorporating the grammar from the previous chapters.
I don’t wholly regret taking Japanese, but now that I know how it is, I feel like I would have been better off learning Spanish or German, or even continuing French, where I would be progressing much farther than I am with Japanese.

So today I found out that I like to get in the study zone by playing my favourite song at the moment on repeat over and over again while I figure out the theory and calculations. Here, I was re-doing my tutorial questions for foreign exchange translations - subsidiaries operating abroad.
Btw, the song I have on repeat is Amore e Capoeira by Takagi & Ketra feat Giusy Ferreri & Sean Kingston. I realised that it was in Italian after google translating the lyrics yesterday, and I’ve been listening to it for weeks. I thought the song was in Portugese this entire time cos it mentions favelas, and the only favelas I know are in Brazil, oops.

Writing out the correct answers for my finance homework. After comparing my work with the solutions, I like to hand write the correct answers in full. Writing words down seems to help me remember information better for when I self-test myself later. Self testing little and often is the best way for me to study for tests and exams.
I have a speaking test for Japanese next week. Time to memorise my lines :)

Today I’m doing finance questions. Lots and lots of them. There’s an upcoming test that’s pretty much at the end of next week if we discount the weekends. There’s something soothing about being engrossed in solving maths problems. It’s hard to get into it in the beginning though. But I always get a lot of satisfaction after finishing a bunch of maths problems, even though I get it wrong half the time!

I totally never bothered to look up the cf. notation meaning until now. No shame. Today, I’m just trying to catch up with finance and accounting homework.

So, I’ve been slacking off with finance lately...now I have three weeks worth of exercise questions to catch up to lmao. And a chapter of Japanese grammar exercises to complete before class tomorrow. I’m planning to stay at uni all day (and evening). Today, I thought to save myself a few dollars and came home for lunch but ended up having my whole afternoon wasted because of family demands.
