today's warm up: Look, the kid is right. It's more impressive when your dad is a giant manifestation of nature for show and tell, not a ranger. Slaney's Mum is a Lawyer dad, how is she meant to keep up with that?

just had a fax come across my desk from a woman whose husband seems to have died shortly after he left my company’s care. i have no doubt the providers did everything they could; sometimes it just happens.
but she sent his death certificate with a hand written note asking that we just write off the bill (enormous, and far higher than it has any right to be even by the standards of the industry) because she just lost her husband and has young children to care for.
her tone was very matter-of-fact. it’s clear she knows that our willingness to forgive this debt is the only chance she has to recover after this tragedy. and i have no idea if they will do it. i have no control over such things; all i can do is keep an eye on the account and see if they do the right thing. and i have no idea what to do if they don’t.
#revolution#communism#anti capitalism#health care#i can only hope they do the right thing#if they send that account to collections i am going to throw hands#not sure exactly whom i would throw them at. maybe god#but i will throw them

let me add— if you do affect the world in a meaningful way, if you are not denied the pleasure of being the cause*, and still wish to become moss for other reasons, this is completely valid. moss has no homework. moss has no shitty parents or abusive partners, and moss does not (for the most part) live in brutalist, concrete-slab cities. moss does not have to pay for its own existence.
what i am trying to communicate here is that the experience of being, or feeling, unable to affect any meaningful change on the world is quite literally unnatural and deeply unhealthy to humans, and is something that the bourgeoisie knowingly and intentionally took away from you to keep you from having the energy and drive to topple their throne of lies.
moss is not the only escape from this prison. we will rise up and free each other.
*basically, the thing that makes us understand ourselves as separate from our surroundings is our ability to have a consistent effect on the world around us. having the power to change our world, even in tiny ways, is what allows us to conceptualize a self. see the work of Karl Groos for more on this.
not to read this entire site for filth but the reason you want to become moss is that you feel you’re unable to affect the world at large in any meaningful way and that is quite literally making you into a shell of a person. moss does not have any concept of freedom and so it cannot be taken away. it is soft and green and gets to lie in the sun all day, making and eating its own food.
you do not want to be moss. you want to live the slow, joyful life that is owed and denied you by the wealthy.

i work in healthcare billing, and as you can imagine, that is maybe one of the most depressing possible jobs for a communist, especially when we hear that a claim is being denied due to lack of medical necessity.
i need to be pretty careful here because my non-disparagement clause is brutal and i am here at least 40% to bitch about my workplace, but suffice to say, the services my company provides are, with extremely narrow exceptions, always medically necessary. usually the insurance companies claim that we could have done something cheaper and it would have been just as good, but i do not believe that is true. this is because, and i simply cannot stress this enough, the providers know what their patients need and do not give a solitary fuck how much the company makes off of the medical procedures they do.
i am a communist, and it breaks my heart to (a) work in medical billing, and (b) see insurance companies refuse claims because profit is their fucking blorbo. but i am, as the url would suggest, also a witch. and every time i see a denied claim, i whisper to the spirits and ask that they make every single one into a bullet bound for the heart of billionaire.
#healthcare#revolution#communism#if i had to accept a job in an awful industry to gather this rage then so be it#my rage and pain is nothing compared to just one of those people who needed care and now bear the burden of its cost

not to be dramatic or anything but if i sent two people into space on a ship with an extremely poor test record, and those people were stuck in space for nine months and i refused them overtime or hazard pay, i would launch myself into the sun.
unfortunately, if i were dumb enough to do either of those things i’m not at all sure i could make my way into the sun.

in simple terms, it's a way of saying that it's natural for men to own women, but not other men. most people recognize it to be Not Cool for an adult to have sex with a child or an animal, and to some of the people espousing it, the comparison is that simple.
but i would argue that same-sex marriage scares the capitalists so much because it bypasses the misogyny embedded into marriage as a contract of ownership by establishing a union where both partners have traditionally taken the same role (owner or owned) in society, and therefore there is no power imbalance in that regard (at least for cis same-sex couples, generally speaking).
if one of the most ancient forms of ownership can be divorced from that context— i.e., if you can marry someone who is your equal— then could we not all do that? and if ownership is not necessary to marriage, then what else might not necessitate it?
the answer, of course, is almost everything in the world. your house, your stuff, and your farm (or workshop, or distillery or whatever your jam, that you personally use to produce things for people to use and enjoy) is yours, and it stays that way under communism if you actually do communism and not red authoritarianism. but there is really very little in this world that a person, family, or company has any business owning.

if your raise does not cover inflation, it is a pay dock.
take my raise this year. it was my first year working this job, and i started a bit too late to qualify for a full raise*, so mine was 1.9%, with the full raise that i "did not earn" being 3%.
*another horseshit trick they will throw at you; they are knowingly scraping off the top of your salary, especially if they count from several months before the raise even goes into effect
if you know how to do math (and you should not blame yourself if you don't; billionaires literally do not want anybody doing math except their math goons), and pay even a passing amount of attention to inflation, then you will know that the inflation rate for USD in 2024 was 2.9% per the consumer price index. that is 1% more than my raise. the buying power of my salary fell after my first performance review, where they claimed to have given me a raise. true? technically. they are paying me (slightly) more money than they did before.
but they have produced far more profit than they did last year, and my salary pays for less of my family's basic needs than it did before. this is a pay dock.
that review was as good as it could have been (given the limits of the new-employee review, which i was apparently given despite some later hires getting a full review. sus). i nearly broke the record for the quickest out of training on my team. and i am very good at my (incredibly boring) job, which is to know exactly how much money the company takes in every single day. so i know how much that number has increased since i've been there.
if it was just me, that would be one thing. but the entire branch of the company (the very large branch that ensures it is paid for services rendered) got "merit raises" of 3%. 0.1% more buying power than you had before is not a reward for loyalty or service, it is a tactic to keep you docile. if you don't get a raise at all, they consider you highly replaceable, and likely assume that you can't find a better-paying job. thus, they feel no need to keep you docile. their mistake.
TLDR: your actual raise is the rate at which the buying power of your salary increases. if it's less than the inflation rate for that year, your actual buying power has been lowered, so your pay has been docked. revolution.
#i was going to go in and ask for a 9% raise thinking i would end up at 6% and then my boss just goes “this will be your raise”#that moment made me understand how little this company values my work#there are four people who know how to do this job#if any three (or the wrong two) stopped doing it for one week max the entire company would grind to a halt#and they docked my pay and insulted my intelligence#they insulted every one of those thousands of employees#also side note don't come for my math i know the inflation adjustment and raise don't have a colinear effect on my buying power#but i am so gay and so tired and i do not want to do math#workers rights#revolution#communism

in practice a non-disparagement clause is a SLAPP suit that will fuck up your life more swiftly and in many cases with far less recourse.
if libel laws don’t cover damaging speech an employee makes about their company (i.e., if their damaging speech is true), and the company still wants to silence their employees, it is a clear cut sign that they know they are doing bad things.
