I had to describe, for a history paper, the devastating effects of the rape of slave women. How can you describe this to your male professor? How can you describe the ugliness and brutality of rape? How can you explain the devastation? The evasiveness? The psychological scarring? You can’t. I said just that in the paper. You can’t put it into words, because there are no words. Needless to say, reading about it from the perspective of the victims left me distressed and depressed. What gives a man the right to destroy a woman in such a way? Because he has a penis? Bullshit. They should be raped, continuously, and castrated. Also, interesting to note, the men blamed the women, suggesting they were ‘promiscuous Jezebels’ who had seduced them. That they ‘couldn't resist’. It’s nice to see that victim blaming hasn't changed in 200 years.

Nearly made it...

to 4 months of good days. Today, I've gone back to square one and woken up to the black cloud looming over me. I'm really happy and it's come back with a vengeance, leaving me bedridden and tearful. I feel so angry with myself for getting this far, and then falling at a hurdle. I know I'm going to end up feeling worse and everything is going to suffer because of it. I don't have time to feel like this and deal with it. I have essays to write and a dissertation to start. I just feel so soul crushingly empty right now.
