the absolutely total complete normal human urge to make liam act as practically the person that raised the twins when he was still alive as the person who’d care for them and would rather rip out his own bone than hurt them because he knows what it’s like to be around their father he knows how hard it is to live up to this whole legacy expectation they have and he doesn’t want the twins to be hurt at all but he can’t be soft for them all the time because they needed to understand that the world wasn’t, would never be kind to their folk or them. and when he was taken when he was yk..he had to stop that pooling feeling of pure dread in his stomach because he left his little brothers all alone at the mercy of their heartless and cold father who’d quicker accept an offer for original books than to save the life of his own son and he couldn’t help but feel grim because he’s just exposed jess to the harsh expectations of the world—threw the twins in it practically and now he regrets never being able to teach them everything but he will never regret caring for then and loving them because he does so fiercely and he promises himself, even in death, that he would rise once again even just for a second to see their faces again, the ones that are more mature and knowledgeable and he knows he’d regret it the moment he does because the guilt of not being able to protect them from that reality of the world would be too much to carry.
