Y'all: omg the Skeksis are so cute! *heart eyes*
Me: 13 ft terror birds are not cute. They are terrifying. One sweep of their claws and you're beheaded. Or torn in half.

A Dark Crystal fic that started 5 years ago — Spreading Darkness [Rated Teen]
Basic summary:
Ten years have passed since the healing of the Crystal and the departure of the urSkeks. Gelfling have begun to flourish once more without the threat of Skeksis domination. Yet darkness looms on the horizon as history sets to repeat itself.
A young Gelfling boy sneaks into the abandoned castle in hopes of seeing the Crystal. Upon touching the object, powerful earthquakes grip Thra. Once again the Crystal cracks, the single shard disappearing to an unknown destination. As the castle dims, its walls become black as night, eight hunched figures materialize in front of the purple Crystal.
The Skeksis have returned, but without their urRu counterparts. Can Jen and Kira rescue their captured son? Or will Thra fall victim to the cruel intentions of the withered Skeksis in their quest for immortality?
Part One
"Wow, it's bigger than I thought it would be!" Hoz breathed, staring at the looming white castle before him. Fizzgig whimpered in his arms, obviously remembering what had occurred ten years ago. "Oh, it's fine. Nothing bad will happen, trust me." Running across the field separating him from the structure, Hoz deposited the shivering ball of fur on the ground. "Come on, we're almost to the Crystal." Growling, Fizzgig cautiously entered the castle, the young Gelfling following him.
After taking several wrong turns, they finally found the chamber that housed the Crystal of Truth. It hovered above a shaft filled with magma, steam wafting into the air. Both it and the walls cast a permanent glare that made Hoz squint. Slowly inching forward, he reached out his hand to touch the gleaming object. Yapping loudly, Fizzgig grabbed his trousers, tugging insistently. "Let go, you miserable pup!" Shaking his leg, the boy lost his footing and fell, narrowly escaping a deadly plunge into the magma. His fingers brushed against something cool, its texture like water. Peering through the haze, Hoz saw that he had made contact with the Crystal. "Ha, I told you nothing would---" Suddenly, intense tremors gripped the chamber, interrupting him. Jumping to his feet, the Gelfling watched chaos unfold around him.
Losing their brilliant sheen, the walls of the chamber quickly turned black, groans reverberating in the air. In front of him, Hoz saw the Crystal changing color, going from white to a pulsing purple while emitting what he thought sounded like a pained shriek. Recalling the legend his parents had told him of the sundering of the Crystal, he tried to swallow the fear in his throat. A hideous crack rent the air and a glinting object flew upward, vanishing out of sight past the triangle in the ceiling. "Fizzgig, let's get out of here!" Whirling to bolt from the quaking chamber, Hoz halted when eight beams speared the gloom, resolving into hunched shapes. As they straightened, he felt his heart sink, tears in his eyes. "S...Skeksis."
skekUng took a deep breath, his keen eyes quickly focusing on the cowering Gelfling child. A cruel smile twisted his mouth, needle-like teeth visible. "It seems there is an intruder in the castle." Lithely advancing, he and the other Skeksis closed on Hoz, hissing. The Garthim-Master towered over the child, clawed hands extending to grab the Gelfling's throat. Pausing momentarily, skekUng glared at Fizzgig who was attached to his arm, snarling. "Insolent pup, begone!" Quickly shaking his wrist, he sent the animal slamming into the opposite wall, ignoring the blood staining his robes.
"Fizzgig, no!" Hoz yelled, suddenly finding himself restrained by skekZok, the Ritual Master. Razor talons sunk deep into his shoulders, the intense pain making the young Gelfling's knees buckle, whimpering. The sinister hum of the Crystal mingled with the cruel cackles of the Skeksis as Hoz was carried away to the dungeons.

As Bright As The Darkness ━  A Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance AU Story
Part One  ━ She’s A Little Runaway
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: Hello everyone! Before I begin, I would just like to thank @writtenbyghostsblog for having inspired me to write this with the post that they made. You can read the idea they had here. This is basically going to be a very different storyline featuring the amazing Princess Brea. I had wondered what it was like for her to keep her loyalty to the Skeksis without her knowing of the draining and darkening events that will/are occurring. So, without further ado, let’s begin! Oh, and gif credit to the tumblr you see in the corner!
“I truly feel there is something amiss, Brea. Please reconsider.”
“You’re my youngest daughter. I don’t feel you’d be safe to stay at the Castle of the Crystal on your own with the Lords.”
“You’ll only cause trouble! Like you always do!”
NO. They’re wrong. As much as I love my sisters and mother, why would my going to the Castle of the Crystal be so terrible? I’ve only ever dreamed of being there, and to meet the other Lords. But if I’m not to be given this blessing, despite Lord skekOk’s invitation, then I’ll just have to leave myself.
And that’s what Brea did. Taking only what she needed, into the air she ascended, flying all the way to the Skeksis’ castle. She was certain the guards would question her presence. Luckily for her, Lord skekOk just so happened to be passing by.
“Princess! What brings you here at such hour!?” skekOk exclaimed. It was quite late in the evening when she left.
Brea stammered as she tried to explain herself. “I-I…my mother…and sisters…they didn’t…so I left and…” She sighed aloud, though skekOk seemed to have understood. He had a feeling his invitation wouldn’t go over well with the All-Maudra.
“Dear princess…” skekOk shook his head sadly. However, he wasn’t alone. Emerging from the shadows, another of the Skeksis Lords joined his side. skekZok.
“Quite risky for you to travel on your own…Although…impressive to go against your family’s wishes.”
Brea was taken aback by skekZok’s words, but she nodded her head silently. She had to assume her actions would put her in the lords’ favor.
Clearing his throat, skekOk spoke once again, “Come along now, princess. I’m sure you must be exhausted from your journey.”
“Yes, thank you,” Brea responded softly, following the lords inside. She already could see how spacious and grandeur the castle was just standing in the hallways. It was just how she imagined from the books she had read.
“Now, allow me to introduce Lord skekZok,” skekOk had started.
Brea’s eyes sparkled. She recognized that name, and chimed in after him, “The Ritual Master! You oversee all the different ceremonies and practices of divination!”
Color him impressed once again. Maybe his doubts about her could be swayed after all. It was skekZok’s turn to stutter slightly as he replied, “Y-Yes, princess. That is true.”
“And I’m sure you will have time to speak much more and meet the others in the morning. Let me take you to your chambers,” skekOk cut in before anything else could be said.
“Right, of course,” Brea nods, turning to walk beside skekOk. She looked back for a moment, smiling towards skekZok. “Good night, Lord skekZok. It was a pleasure to finally meet you.”
“Yes, uh, rest well, princess,” skekZok returned softly, surprising himself. Sheesh. Her kind nature rubbed off on him a tad. How strange.
Brea continued to follow skekOk through the halls until finally showing her to her quarters. The room was incredibly large, even bigger than her own room back home. Was she even going to be able to sleep from how excited she felt?
“Oh, this is just wonderful! Thank you so much for letting me stay!” Brea let her arms wrap around him as best she could, just like she had done so before when he visited Ha’rar. The gesture still took him by surprise, but he let himself give a gentle pat to her head.
“Alright now, I shall leave you for the night. I’ll come to fetch for you in the morning,” skekOk says once he’s able to carefully pull away from her grasp.
“Good night, Lord skekOk,” she says to him kindly.
“Yes, pleasant dreams, princess,” was his response before letting the door close.
As thrilled as she was in being here, sleepiness did begin to overcome her. So, she changed into some comfortable sleepwear before sliding under the covers of her new, ginormous bed. She curls up, smiling as she soon drifted off to sleep.
Meanwhile, outside, skekOk had noticed skekZok had still been out in the halls. The Scroll Keeper couldn’t help but grin as he passed by. “Not so bad now, is she?”
skekZok only grunted, rolling his eyes. He wasn’t too sure about the princess yet. Yes, he was concerned about her staying here. But just how long was that going to be possible?
