Consequential Review of Hold This L x VOLDREGA The Black Mage
Tumblr media
Voldrega The Black Mage the magical orator hailing from the 217 with a dazzling aura on and off stage. He presents us a new chapter on his journey through this life and his palette of style choices tell an interesting story on this project. From R&B to straight bar for bar Hip-Hop he has opened a new valve of creativity and it is clearly flowing. I have very few albums I can play from front to back without stopping and this is surely being added to the list. I have been a fan of Mage since I first arrived on the scene. His commanding presence and strikingly refreshing energy adds a certain spark of interest every time he performs.
The cleverly named project Hold This L is a charismatic mix of rap and soul with all the production being done by The Letter L Beats and mastered by Humbly G. As soon as I heard the horns on the first track Earthbound, it sounded victorious. His artistic approach states that while everyone was gearing up for some sort of competition, he’s already won. It’s amazing to watch an artist like Mage evolve and maintain as the world spins. Alongside music, his soon to be wife is his rock right now and Dungeons and Dragons is what helps him to reset. I asked about what art he’s been feeding himself lately and in his words, ABBA is always a bop, Lupe may be the ACTUAL goat, and Earthbound is the song that gets him up in the morning, as it is also his favorite song on the EP. It gave him a chance to step away from the barred verses and structured choruses and just get up and running and I see him at the finish line cutting the ribbon with his prose.
The fourth track Blue Moon featuring Indigo Pipes is my personal favorite. Listening as he plays with his vocal ability was a treat I wasn’t expecting. The new melodies and cadences had me singing sweetly along. There is a certain sway the body gives when certain rhythms are played, a sweet sort of rocking in a cradle feel. The bass line alone on Black Magic featuring KD takes me away to memories of good nights I spent listening to my grandma dj, sing, dance, and celebrate the lives we do have and the gifts we’ve been given, which is what we have to do, come what may.
Tumblr media
Be on the lookout for his next curtain drop the Hold This L Expansion Pak featuring the original track as well as Hold This L Remixes.
Also for his group Rogue Tendency the eclectic hip hop collective including, Humbly G, Johnny Cashed and MC Rota.

Consequential Review of In Amerikkka x Moe Pesci x Rota
Tumblr media
Moe Pesci of the YAOP squad and a member of the collective Thee Delinquents, is hailing from Texas by way of Mound City. He always comes out with a classic hip hop sound we can’t deny the authenticity of. His love of music developed into rapping when he was 17 years old and he hasn’t stopped since. His first professional show was in 2005 opening up for Dipset in Carbondale, Illinois. His pen is one I’ve always known to be sharp. Bars are always up to par and sending a message to anyone who’s made it through something that there is hope for better despite the darkness that plagues us. His artistry clearly isn’t just a hobby for him, it's a lifestyle.
Intro to Rota aka Sir Rota of Rouge Tendency who is an Evanston native with a passion for poetry and a flow out of this world. I was first introduced to his music while he was performing here in Champaign Urbana. His energy was always high and the pictures he paints while challenging you with a new perspective is something to marvel at. It’s also Rota’s childhood friend who he has been working with since he first started making music, we have to thank for the rhythmic vibrations, Lucca who is ½ of their group The Nocturnals, another extension of Rota’s pen that I have been inclined to vibe to.
On to the sonic boom of In Amerikkka, the pun in the title says everything, yet I will elaborate. This nation has been fighting a war raged on its own people about land that never belonged to anyone but Mother Earth. From shootings to lynchings to wrong imprisonment to straight disappearances, there is a clear issue with Black lives being targeted because of our skin. The fact that Moe and Rota created this record two years ago and it’s message still hits right at home speaks volumes, Moe originally wanted to place it on his project Elm St.’s Finest but the spike of deaths and the intensity of the revolution clapping back inspired him to drop it as a single. Initially it was difficult to listen to simply because just like the countless videos of unarmed, innocent people being hurt or killed it brought me to tears. I appreciated the creativity of Moe’s approach, also Rota’s willingness to collaborate and play this role on such an edgy topic for the sake of awareness. I stand for it and I stand behind it.
During times like these it's the artists we run to for perspective, healing or even just expelling negative energies so please click these links and explore, you might find something you need.

Consequential Review of Purple Hills by Young Club Ft. Kylynn
Tumblr media
Young Club aka Tito Easto of Bloomington, IL CEO of HighLife Music, Also a part of the ever glowing collective Thee Delinquents, has turned a new leaf showing us even more style with his latest single produced and featuring Kylynn, “Purple Hills.” The excitement from the fans waiting for another drop were glad to hear this new groove seeing how he’s known specifically for his brazen stance in his raps even since his first release.
His extensive track work has always shown his versatility. Personally it’s his pen that I’ve always gravitated to. He’s an artist who is so good at showing me a new card I have to break down my definitions of the genres within rap. The Storyteller is the lane which comes to mind the quickest. It takes the ability to grab the audience's attention immediately with the feel of the music and what I call the thesis of the song, initial presentation, but it takes a bit more structure and elocution to keep everyone along for the ride. As soon as this one drops I feel like I’m in Cali rolling up.
Intro for many to Kylynn, who has a adamant tone behind him that clearly comes from experience in producing. The maturity of his ear is all over his delivery. His production skills while collaborating with Young Club, make the vibe ultra smooth. Although this fact may not weigh in for all readers, the two are also avid Mary Jane connoisseurs and purple was rolled in the making of this jam. Purple Hills has a certain bounce to it that makes it versatile enough for me to sing alone while I play it alone in my room or while I’m cruising around.
Looking for a positive vibe, authentic sound, with some dope rappers click the links below and get to know Young Club and Kylynn

Consequential Review of Young & the Restless by Fessa (self and co produced) Written by Peach Bassy
Fessa, of Chicago comes out this season with a hot new album for the Hip Hop seekers. He is a part of the illustrious collaborative WWNNN Chicago a team of multi talented artists of all forms, but generated by their mutual love of music
Wordplay immediately gets your attention. His linguistics vs verbiage add up like rap math. He’s been a writer whose lyrics are good to see while listening, simply to look up the new words he’s teaching. His life perspective continuously comes out while listening. True Hip Hop fans are listening for the authenticity factor and this project is stamped. From his breathing technique to mix quality, to rap cadences, Fessa has the complete package.
Quotes that catch my ear From Young & the Restless:
Boo Thing:
“If you can just believe me, and take a second, it could get kinetic, I got a weapon, I owe my predecessors. so I put my brain on display for a second.
...I tried to force it, but ended up learning my lesson.”
Numb:
“let me get serious, not a kid with the raps but I throw fits,
..Man I gotta keep in motion, receive promotions, and them I keep floatin, exceed notions, my eve got an ocean”
Platinum: This flow so wavy to me.**
“10′s keep em clean rollin platinum, smokin good rollin calabasas, silver surfin lookin for that action, in the mornin act like it aint happen, in the mornin crunch you like a captian, know its early but I get it crackin”....and on and on.
As artists we all know finding the perfect vibe, music, and engineer can be too good to be true, but when you learn to do it for yourself you gain a confidence in sound, one I have watched grow in Fessa’s music. I remember watching his first real performance with WWNNN and how he stepped into his light wholeheartedly, turning mistakes into shining moments, turning fear into power. He has always been an artist I admire because of his drive. No matter what part of the music industry he is interested in, he dives in headfirst, hands on and makes his dream reality.
Find the link to the new album Young & the Restless below and go surf through his discography, its worth it!
All tracks were produced by Fessa except Numb produced by MUSIC UNDEFINED and B Simone was produced by HDL Chosen, both blood brothers, both part of HDL entertainment, and affiliates with WWNNN and friends and frequent collaborators.

First Official Review.
•Consequential review of $ojo Da Poet - Ed Edd & Eddy Prod. by 94 Cove and Shot by JayyWillsEnt•
Written By: Peach Bassy
$ojo Da Poet, is the latest addition the eclectic collective self proclaimed Thee Delinquents coming from various areas to collaborate in Central Illinois
This is $ojo’s first video production shot in Urbana, Illinois, with feature scenes in the local artists alley, The Sipyard. A simple yet adequate vision for the allegory present throughout the track.
While watching him talk bout his dreams with his crew all around, I was downright inspired. He plays on the shows storyline of Ed Edd and Eddy and the friends from their cul-de-sac. Jonny 2x4 had a wooden 2x4, Plank, of whom he would talk to plank about all his thoughts, dreams, nightmares, ideas to make money and issues he deals with. $ojo uses Plank for even more in the visual as a metaphor for the higher power he tunes into to grow through his day to day situations. He confesses over this flawless bouncy track from 94 Cove, some of the mantras he’s been putting into his poetry. In the visual the crew joins him in an almost tribal charging up with Plank to the energy they are creating, while promoting their comrades new music.
$ojo speaks on his personal moral, life experience and standards with lines like:
“Ride or die before I be dishonored”
“Love is illusion ”
“Bet you sit down if you have nothing to stand for”
He’s stating he won’t take the usual route to become successful in any area, no matter how outside the box it is, or how anyone criticizes his work. Furthermore he has the support of his crew behind him, encouraging and pushing him toward greatness.
The cartoonist creator Antonucci used the characters to show how three boys came together for a common goal despite their different views of life. They realized their goals were the same and needed to work in unity to achieve them. They were stronger as a unit so they try, fail and succeed together. $ojo and Thee Delinquents are bringing a new air to the central Illinois community by coming together, as opposed to working alone and competing to be called the best, they are collectively gearing up to take all the trophies
I remember when I first met $ojo at an open mic, he was so reserved, I thought this man has some sincere discipline, very observant which is natural for a deep seeded artist. He’s been writing poetry since about seven years old, and now has the tools to push his writing through a a new medium, with music, to show us more of what his gift can do.
Check out this visual and subscribe to Thee Delinquents on YouTube for more of the collectives new material
