Caption taken with permission from a post in the Breastfeeding Support Group for Black Moms (FB group). https://www.facebook.com/groups/Blackmomsdobreastfeed/ —— Very few women have Low Supply. ***They have low breastfeeding education.*** Show me 10 women who claimed to have low supply and I bet my daycare bill that 3 of them weren't replacing pump parts on schedule 2 were timing feedings 2 were taking fenugreek which dried them up 1 got her cycle and thought that temporary dip was permanent 1 was in the top up trap and the 10th just didnt want to (which is her choice and completely fine, but doesn't make her a testimony to low Supply or women who CAN'T breastfeed) Very few women actually have low supply. Edit to add: those with true low Supply (say due to certain types of breast surgery, IGT, retained placenta or PCOS) please seek help with an ibclc who can create a plan tailored Just For You. Many women have still successfully breastfed with those conditions. 2nd edit: some women dont Respond well to pumps. But again...not low supply. Safety is important, and car seat safety will ALWAYS be in style. Here are a few tips and visuals to ensure that you are strapping in your littles properly. Tip #1: Make sure the chest clip is placed at armpit level. Oftentimes parents have them well below where they should actually be. Tip #2: Pinch the straps to ensure your baby is strapped properly. They should never be too loose. Tip #3: Do not use aftermarket products. Aftermarket products that are placed onto car seats pose a danger because you are unable to strap in the baby properly; it can create loose straps that you may not realize are too loose for your baby's safety. Also, aftermarket products void your car seat's warranty. Read the manual. Tip #4: Do not place car seats on the upper most part of a shopping cart (aka a buggy depending on your region). They are not meant to "click" into place, and may cause the car seat to become stuck with no way of removing it SAFELY. It is best to place the car seat in the larger area. However, it is better to babywear while shopping as sometimes placing the car seat on a flat surface while the baby is strapped in, may cause asphyxiation due to the shifting of the straps. Tip #5: Aso not pictured, but do not place car seats on high surfaces, such as countertops, tables, chairs, etc. Car seats can tip over and may cause severe injury. Tip #6: This is not pictured in the slide, but as we approach the colder months, DO NOT strap in your baby while they are wearing a thick coat. Thick coats also prevent a snug fit on the car seat straps. Only place them in the car seat wearing a thin sweater. Tip #7: Last tip from this post, but certainly not least: Consider rear-facing as long as possible. The last few slides (7-10) explain why. Children have a lot of cartilage that takes a while to mature into hardened (or ossified) bone. A child CAN rear-face for longer than you think. Yes, beyond the age of two. Your nutrition is super important in your postpartum period. Make sure you're consuming nutrient dense foods and drinks. Teas and soups are a really good way to get nutrients; nettles are gonna be your best friend. And, if youre breastfeeding you especially want to be mindful of your nutrition and ensure you're drinking enough water.
