But also! The above is not true! Because of how tags work on AO3 (and also due to the tireless efforts of volunteer tag wranglers) the above tag would probably get synonimised to the tag Animal Play. Click the link and check out all the synonyms! Pet Play is one of them, but there are also a bunch of rambly-like tags that are syn-ed to it as well. Animal Play is a canonical tag that you can properly search/filter on!

Therefore, if someone wanted to filter works by the tag Animal Play, then yes, anything that got tagged as pet p!ay, would probably show up in the list, as long as the connection had been made by the wranglers.
