I don't think Snape's physical features contradict an Asian reading of the character.

Going solely off his physical appearance, I don’t see it as an impossible interpretation at all!

But for me, the other aspects of his character, the canon lore that’s already written, his name (this is a big one for me bc last names hold lineage and ethnic roots), and the cultural context make it hard to imagine him as Asian without reworking some of those details.

James is another example of why I’m not a big fan of changing character ethnicities. A lot of people like to think of James Mexican/Indian. But James wouldn’t even be the person he was if he was Mexican/Indian. Speaking as a South-Asian/Desi person myself, from separation from the British, the partition in the India in the 40s itself would change James��� entire upbringing and he’d be an entirely different person. He wouldn’t have the sense of entitlement he had, if anything he would be bullied right alongside Severus.

I don’t mind at all that others like to HC him as Asian! I totally get why others do, I would probably do the same if there was more that hinted towards it. Basically, for me, it’s just one of those things that doesn’t fully click for me bc I feel like someone’s background is very important to who they are, you get what I mean?

After what became known as the "Rise of Voldemort", we now find ourselves in 1995. Voldemort and his followers dominate wizarding Europe, with the capital of power in the British Ministry. Hogwarts School has been dismantled, and purebloods are the only ones with access to education, at home or at Durmstrang. Some people, however, have risen to resistance. The Order of the Phoenix grew, with HQ's all over the dominated places, acting as vigilantes against the rule of the Death Eaters. France is the only country to have resisted invasion, and continuously fights it, becoming a designated place for escapees from dominated countries. The Muggles have become aware of wizarding presence, but are allowed to carry on with their lives provided they don't fight against wizarding reign or try to act against violence. Minerva McGonagall has established a clandestine school for halfbloods and muggleborns, located in a magically expanded closet (with a similar structure to Newt's suitcase) inside of Grimmauld Place, the order's headquarters.
