My daughter can read anything she wants.
Sometimes I've told her that I don't think she'll enjoy something until she's older, and so far she has trusted my judgement. But I wouldn't stop her if she didn't want to wait.
Sometimes I've decided not to recommend something to her yet, but if she found it herself I would let her read it.
Sometimes I've asked her to wait until I have a chance to read something before she reads it, because I want to be sure I can answer any questions she has. I expect to run into this more often in the next few years.
But she can read anything she wants.
joining the war on kids reading any book they want on the side of kids reading any book they want. simply you will be fine. it's even good to be confronted with things you don't understand and even find upsetting, uncomfortable and difficult. it's a surprise tool that will help you later.

People on twitter have been saying this website is extremely white and tbh its making me very curious what the demographics of this site are (of my own reach anyway) so
DISCLAIMER: Race is a non scientific concept with no exact definitions. It is a social construct primarily characterized by how society treats you and thus this is an imperfect poll. If you feel none of the options here reflect you and your experience I implore you to reblog this with your experience as I am curious about that and want to hear about it.

You're welcome!
My brain's habit of hanging on to seemingly useless information pays off once again.
...I just wish I knew where I first heard about it...

I made this quilt to raffle for a local organization who’s logo is a white unicorn on a purple background. Drafted the pattern myself.

I like it. I could also picture Alda as Mr Bennet, especially since Mr Bennet and Lizzie are parallel characters in my mind. (In the same way that Mrs Bennet is parallel to Lydia.)
I have seen much discussion of the wildcard inclusion of Alan Alda as Darcy. Now, I assume that we all love our guy Alan Alda. I know I do. He has such a warmth and wit to him. He navigates social situations with a sense of unpretentious charm, though he can do excellent rants when people need to be taken down a peg. He has eyes that twinkle so beautifully, certainly that one could describe as "fine."
Thus, I would argue that the best casting of Alan Alda in Pride and Prejudice would not be as Mr. Darcy, but as Elizabeth Bennet.
I would love to hear your thoughts on my vision.
oof.

Just finished reading "Overgrowth" by Mira Grant/Seanan McGuire, which I'm pretty sure is the first of her novels I've ever read. I didn't quite love it, but I really really liked it.
And I can't be the only one who saw similarities to Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis trilogy in addition to the more obvious influences, can I?

ADHD memory: will I remember a significant fraction of every bit of information I ever encounter in my entire life? Yes, yes I will.
Also ADHD memory: will I be able to choose which bits my brain holds on to and which it discards? Of course not, that would just be silly.
Still ADHD memory: will I be able to reliably recall the information lodged in my brain when it would be relevant and/or useful? Don't be ridiculous. Why would anybody want to do that?

Why has Tumblr decided I need to see tons of Spanish language posts about Christianity? There are two problems with this:
A) I can't read Spanish. Between Sesame Street and the dregs of high school French lingering in my brain I can usually puzzle out a key word or two, enough to figure out that they have something to do with God and/or Jesus, but not any more than that.
B) I'm not interested in random Christianity (or any other religion) posts. When I am in the mood to read about religion, I'll go looking for it myself, thank you very much.

I generally prefer print books, but audio books are fine.
Audio is actually better for me in a few circumstances: obviously when I'm driving or doing other things that I need my eyes and/or hands; but there are also specific authors who only work for me in audio format. Mostly Charles Dickens and his contemporaries.
Curious about people's reading preferences, reblogs for sample size are very appreciated ❤️
