lena travelling the world to figure out who she is as a child, technically, is so fun to me.

when she was sent on assignments, it was the job and only the job. she's been all over the world, but she's never done any sight seeing or shopping or just general wandering. she did what she was sent to do, and then she came back. and i think her being able to tie more positive memories in with places, rather than only knowing cities or countries by the names of targets, does really good for her.

she thanks natasha profusely for setting them free, but can't stand the thought of being shipped off somewhere to just?? live a normal life. she's slightly older than the other girls, thanks to being a clone, so it's a little easier to go about her business across the world. pulls the 'my parents are over there' and points in a random direction and disappears when whoever was worried about her looks over.

i have to iron out details about her age but she's around 22ish when she finally finds out she's actually a clone and it truly makes her spiral. all the connections she made over the last?? i dont know 10ish years, all the things she's done, everything she's learnt and experienced feels useless. all the memories she has of a 'childhood' are fake, and she really struggles to discern between reality and her 'memories'

actually i'm twisting it that one of the reasons lena was an unsuccessful clone is because she came out of the little pod she was forged in as a child - which is why anya wanted her, rather than allowing them to simply terminate her. for yelena clones were meant to be into adulthood.

she was a perfectly able bodied clone that could be implanted with new memories and new abilities. what little she remembered of yelana's memories were brainwashed out and she was given new ones. she fit in with all of the other young girls because she was programmed to. and because she was fake - she wasn't real - she was pushed further simply because she was expendable. but she gets really good at what she does with the constant limit pushing, and once they're freed from anya she disappears to find out who she really is, rather than allow them to class her as an orphan and put her with some random family.
