One window was forgotten, as in the guy who took the measurements didn't wrote down the info. Instead, he put in the wrong measurements. Like the fact we didn't want the kitchen to have two tiny windows over the sink but rather one longer slider window. To make it easier to blow the smoke out of the room when cooking. A tiny window we did want replaced was ignored. Measurements were incorrect too, and the guy who took those numbers down is no longer with the company because every job had been pretty much the same.
I've contacted Dabella and informed them of their errors. The person we had been speaking with since this whole thing began weeks ago agreed this is unacceptable. He has promised to fix this, that we get the windows we paid for. That was several hours ago, and I dunno what's going on now.
What I do know is the anxiety and stress caused me to have a very hard time this afternoon. I had a seizure and ended up taking a nap to help recover. Do I feel better? Well enough to finish sewing, but my anxiety will not be coming down until this issue with the windows is resolved.
Save yourselves money and go with someone else. We will not be going with Dabella ever again.
Just as one major project ends (bathtub and shower replacement), another begins. Tomorrow, four windows are being replaced. Three are separating from the house, and the fourth is replacing one in my husband's man cave so he can install a air conditioner on it. His room is an oven at this time of year.
After the windows are done, it's gonna be a few days of deep cleaning. Then...we paint. Except I need some help affording the paint. What's going on, you ask? The dining room, which has two of the windows, will be converted into my quilting room.

That table is for my frame and new machine, and will be moved once the windows are in. I'm painting the room green, and moving The Monster (a massive hutch) in there after making some adjustments to it. Namely, new hardware, removing a spoon display, and putting a layer of paint primer on it. The Monster will house all my mugs, teacups, tea, cookbooks, and all things related to using my new frame and machine.
What I need is some help buying the paint, hardware (nobs and hinges) for The Monster, painting supplies, and a few other things for the room. With your help, I can have this project done by the end of the month.
You can help me out twice over by freeing up limited space in my sewing room and standing wardrobe. How? By purchasing work from my shop. I have many listings and they are definitely taking up limited precious space. Here are pics of my most recent listings.

This is the summer of Get Stuff Done. With your help, it will be done faster. The sooner this is done, the sooner I can get back to sewing. After the room is painted, I'll be making a stack of quilt tops to turn into finished quilts. Ideally, a half dozen finished quilts in my shop by December 1st. Until then, work on the room and then on a dozen quilt tops. I just need help getting the supplies I need.

I bought a quarterly needlepoint magazine from 1991 today for $1 at an op shop, and there’s a four page spread about a woman who completely faithfully remakes samplers from the 1600s and the part that blows me away is that she was keeping women in history alive.
The original sampler maker was a teenaged girl called Loara she’s the only one known of seven siblings in that family. She was born approximately 1632 and had passed before her father had in 1656 which they know because it was mentioned in his will.
So in the 1630-40s a girl made a sampler, in 1991 a woman had put in years of research before recreating the sampler as Loara had 350 years earlier , and I’m reading about it in 2024.
Embroidery keeps women alive in history, and it’s part of why I love samplers so much.
Here’s a quote from samplers that I think about often:

Avoiding Fast Fashion: How to Repair your Stuff
A friend texted me asking how to avoid fast fashion and the short answer is: you cant. unless you have the money to make all your own clothes, fast fashion is going to be a part of your life because it has permeated every corner of the fashion industry. However, you can learn basic mending and repair techniques to help your clothes last so that you are contributing far less to the fast fashion industry

Commission is finished!!! It's 32x36 inches, the ideal size for wheelchair users and traveling. Unless you're tall. My client is short, like myself, and this is perfect for them.
Technically, commissions are closed. However, if you know you will purchase whatever it is I'm currently working on, contact me about it. I will give you the guess-stimated price and require half that amount up front. When the quilt is finished, I will provide you with the true price and require the rest of that payment before shipping.
In this case, I guess-stimated 20 hours, and with my hourly wage ($27/hour) and cost if materials, it came to $607 USD. They paid me a little over $300 USD. It ended up taking just 13 hours, and they owed just $144 USD and paid me $150 USD.
This type of commission is my favorite because I'm already working on it.

Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.

In a world where trauma and loss often leave children feeling unseen and unheard, a simple square of fabric has become a powerful symbol of hope. A child’s drawing, stitched into cloth, becomes more than art—it becomes a whisper of love across borders and oceans. For those growing up with loss, fear, or isolation, simple squares of hope have grown into a tapestry of healing, connection, and care—one quilt, one message, one child at a time. What began as a symbolic gesture quickly revealed its deeper emotional impact. For children growing up in poverty and trauma, especially those orphaned by the HIV/AIDS crisis, the quilts became more than blankets. They were visual proof that someone, somewhere, cared. In 2012, The Love Quilt Project was formally founded to carry that spirit forward with a mission: to provide emotional and educational support to vulnerable children in South Africa and the U.S., using the power of art, love, and connection.

If you can afford it, consider purchasing from their shop.
We are now offering Love Quit Project merchandise for sale – right from our website. We have been working with our partners, the Bandanna Company and Springs Creative to produce the products which include South African archival fabrics for quilting as well as T-shirts, tote bags, and bandannas emblazoned with our logo and tagline. All proceeds from the sale of our merchandise will go to support children living in foster care.

Let’s be honest—pressing isn’t the most glamorous part of quilting. There are so many rules—AND opinions. But oh, what a difference it can make! A well-pressed block can be the difference between a quilt top that lies flat and one that waves at you like a flag in the wind. Let’s see how ironing versus pressing can make your quilting life smoother—literally.
Ironing vs. Pressing: What’s Best for Quilting? If you’ve ever scorched a seam or stretched a carefully pieced block out of shape, you know how important it is to understand the difference between ironing and pressing in quilting. Though they both involve a hot iron, the technique—and the result—can be dramatically different. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons of each method.

Quilting is done!
Tumblr media
My client is loving it, and their opinion is the one that really matters.

I have this batik remnant in my stash, and barely enough to bind this. It's too perfect for the quilt, and if I didn't have enough, I was going to the quilt shop. Thankfully, I had just enough. Woooot!

I won't be adding anymore to this post. When I finish the quilt, I'll share it in a new post.
I got this charm pack, Dreadful Delights by Robert Kaufman, last year and have been wanting to make a small something with it. This particular pattern is made for using just a charm pack, and I love the way this is gonna look.
