The making of my abstract paintings that I got ready for the customers. Then I would draw over what I painted to suit what our conversation was about to be niche to them. I made more rather than less to be prepared as I knew a lot of people were going to choose my art piece. I made over 60 but only about 45 got used. - Cody

CRITICAL REFLECTION OF OUR MARKET
We feel as though our stall was successful. We were very happy with the end result and the feedback we have heard regarding our stall. We had constant participants and were always busy. We feel as though we contributed to the market really well. Our stall fitted into the themes of ‘abandoned childhood’ and ‘abandoned materials’ through the idea of ‘arts and crafts’ and the idea of abandoned conversations. All individual people in our group were motivated and excited about our concept. Everyone was positive and willing to contribute everything we needed to make our stall successful. During the market our stall relied on our individual contributions and efforts, our individual input towards the group is part of what made our stall so successful.
Before the market we feel as though our first and most important success was getting along and working well as a group. We found it easy to come to agreements, even when there were multiple ideas presented. Everyone was constantly contributing ideas and no one sat out of discussions. During the market we feel our stall was very successful. Prior to the market we were worried that conversation would not flow easily, however we found we were wrong in this assumption. All of us found the conversations very easy to hold and could keep them flowing easily without stress. A good way to measure our success was through our number of customers, we had constant customer throughout the market and they all seemed very interested in what we were doing. Our whole stall and materials we used were all recycled or reused. This was successful in keeping to our theme of abandoned materials. Our decorations for the stall were all from previous markets or thing we had chosen to recycle, such as old Massey magazines. We borrowed easels from the art department and they were a huge success in the overall presentation of our stall as they drew people in. When entering our stall it felt as though you were entering an art studio, this is the experience and atmosphere we were trying to create. It also matched with the art pieces we were creating. After hearing feedback from other people we know this was successful.
Improvements we would make if we were to do this again would be to have a larger space for our stall. Our area became quite cramped when large groups came in. There also wasn’t much room to move when customers were swapping over. If we had more time and resources it would have been cool to push the design of the stall further. Such as more decorations, fully enclosed, lighting and possibly another station. Another improvement would be more signage, although we had a lot, some people were still unclear on what to do and how our stall worked. This could be combatted by having more informative signs, explaining the process. We also would choose to relocate our stall, we had the DJ booth next to us and sometimes this made it difficult to hear. Our stalls were very different in the way that theirs was quite playful and loud and ours was more intimate and the key focus was the discussion. We also sometimes had a line of people waiting for our stall, this would probably be the biggest improvement we would need to make. Although they didn’t mind, it still wasn’t ideal for the flow of the whole market. This could be combatted by having something interactive for them to do while waiting, or a way that we could keep them entertained.
We feel as though throughout the market we were very professional in the way we dealt with each other and others within our market. Our decision making and conversations were efficient and had positive outcomes. Our facebook group chat was very helpful within our group for organising and discussing things outside of class. We also had a facebook group for the entire market, although it was not utilised to its full potential, it was helpful in passing on information from the leadership groups to us.
With our prototyping markets due to legitimate reasons, we didn't have all for people there for either of them. This affected our decision making and did not enable us to do a full ‘practice’. Although we tested everything we needed to in our prototype markets, we never did a full ‘prototype’. Each time we tested individual things such as practising the drawing, practising the conversation, practising the layout. In the end, we got the information we needed, however, felt as though we could have committed to a full ‘prototype’. The market as a group also could have helped this process by creating a proper ‘walk around’ so that we had more people to practice on.
When coming across challenges we overcame them quite well. Our biggest challenge was having a line of people waiting for our stall when we were busy. We overcame this challenge by sending in groups of people to one artist. This, therefore, pushed people through faster and also created more conversation. It also eliminated the problem of people waiting for their friends and teammates to finish. On the day of the market we had issues with our designed signage, due to a problem in the industrial workshop. We overcame this challenge by improvising and making make shift signs for the beginning of the market, until our other ones were able to be used.
We feel as though we have learnt a lot from this project, individually and as a group. We learnt how to work with people's different learning styles within our group and also different characters. We learnt how to interact within an organisational structure and the idea of a hierarchy. We also experienced what it is like when there is lack of communication from leadership groups and how to respond to this. We also learnt how to present our ideas and opinions confidently to a group. We found a valuable learning experience was through our conversations in the actual market. Talking with strangers and holding a conversation with them can sometimes be difficult, but we feel as though we learnt a lot from it and it was successful for us. Managing our time was another skill that we learnt from this process.

Week 12
This week was about reflection on all 3 markets, each team member was to attend their reflection clinic and report back to the team when writing the group reflection report. We found that each clinic had a different style, one was very report based, explaining what to write about in the report whereas another was all about the personal reviews of the other two markets and receiving feedback from peers. Wiktoria had to fly to Poland that afternoon so started the report off and added a few points and photos in where she could, the other 3 of us met on Thursday to complete this since we all had hand ins due then that needed more attention at the current time. We all contributed to the writing of the report and thought that our market stall overall was a success, based on our reflection and the feedback we heard from others.

My final art piece was semi-abstract. I have decided to use paints, and I was using them during the market as well. My painting depicts a pathway , mountains and the sea which is connected to the subject of the “creative conversation” I was having with the person that would choose my art piece. My topic was future plans, travels and ambitions.  - Wiktoria

Week 10
This week was the immaterial labours market which we entered part way through the class so leading up to that the 3 of us, Wiktoria was home sick so was unable to attend, worked on organising our market for the next week. Wiktoria wasn’t there to help with that but she had been in contact and let us know she had bought some sheets that she is painting for our stall to cover the chairs. We then worked on updating the blog with anything we had missed such as adding the production plans and photos. We went through the market as reviewers and completed our group review. This is a screenshot using the zappar app to reveal a lovely message from the market. Next week is our market so we knew we had to meet up again before set up on tuesday to make sure everthing is prepared and wiktoria has been updated.

Week 11 MARKET DAY
Today was the day of the market and we all decided to get there at 8:30 to finish setting everything up. Cody went to sort out our signage in the industrial block while the three girls finished the wall art, cleaning up and getting market ready. Cody arrived in class with the signs just as the market was starting thankfully and from there the market went as smooth as we could have hoped. We had plenty of great responses to our offering and a lot of great conversations with people. Everyone got turns creating their art pieces and talking with people but Teagan and Cody were the most popular choice on the day, but it all worked out since Brydie and Wiktoria were comfortable talking at the front of the store more often and Wiktoria was able to take photos with her camera for documentation. We were busy right up until the last group and had produced a lot of art pieces, we deemed this market to be a success.

Market Set up
For our market we were able to start setting up on tuesday after 4, we also had to get signed off by health and safety at this time as well. We picked up the 2 easels and 4 easel boards during the day and starting setting up at 6. We worked really hard on making the environment seem like an art studio and very artsy. We found when we started setting up that one team next to us had pin board dividers which combatted our dilemma on how to separate us from the neighbouring stalls, on the other side we decided with that team to use two whiteboards which also worked very well and were the same height as the pinboards. When setting up it was a tight squeeze to fit the stations in there with the easels at the front but fitted pretty perfectly in the end. We draped the 4 painted sheets over the chairs which covered pretty perfectly and worked so well with the paint splattered easels we gathered. the stall was taking shape at this point and we found some sheets left over from the previous markets that we used as a backdrop to keep out some of the light and cover the Imacs. we thought at this point that the walls were a bit plain and ruined the atmosphere a bit so decided to use the many left over massive magazines we had to cover the walls and paint over. This was all the preparation we needed for the next day and were really pleased with how it all turned out, as this was the first time we got to see the finished sheets and using the easels.

Abandon Materials We have decided to use only ‘abandon materials’ during our market. That is why we are RE using old Massive Magazines as our canvas. Also, we are RE using all of our old art supplies.  - Wiktoria, Brydie, Teagan, Cody

Inspiration for my art piece and style. At the beginning I just wanted to use a range of old paints, however after prototyping I have realised it might take too long during the market to paint an abstract painting so I have decided to mixed styles and prepare recycled paper painted beforehand and then during the market use less paint and more markers and crayons. - Wiktoria

Review of Immaterial Labours
Group Analysis:
As reviewers we felt that they did well with the topic of ‘immaterial labours’, According to Michael Hardt and Paolo Virno, immaterial labour can be defined as a “labour that produces an immaterial good, such as a service, knowledge or communication”. We feel as though they did well in this aspect as it is quite a hard topic to come up with a stall for. Their theme of a journey through emotions tied in well with this. “manifestations of a subjectively experienced emotion.” These manifestation, or affects, can include “a feeling of ease, well-being, satisfaction, passion - even a sense of connectedness or community”. (96) Each stall was very different from the other which really gave you a full experience of different emotions, it was also very clear what emotion each stall was trying to convey. The stalls all had really good idea development and this showed in their end products/experiences. The overall atmosphere was very colourful which helped you link particular colours with different emotions. It was a very open big atmosphere with a lot of spare space, which was less stressful when moving between stalls as each stall was quite intense. Their way finding team did really well with providing directions and advice on particular stalls. Their system of exchange was quite unclear and we were unaware of what it was until after the market was over. Therefore initially we don’t think it was a strong idea. It could have been applied better and more clearly defined. However after learning that their system of exchange was emotional exchange we do think this would have tied in well with their theme if applied properly. There was a wide variety of offerings with a wide range of emotions which we think helped make the market so successful.
Brydie:
I think this market was really successful overall. All of the stalls tied in really well with their theme which gave the market a very cohesive feeling. The market, although very spread out, was very easy to find your way around and flowed easily. Their way finding team had a really strong presence and gave information about the stalls when you walked past. I think the choice of their theme was so successful due to the extreme differences of all of the stalls. You came out of each one feeling a completely different emotion after your experience. I think their system of exchange could have been made slightly clearer as I was a bit confused as to what it was, but then maybe that was the point of it? Because it was an emotional exchange it didn’t need to be spoken about? I really enjoyed this market and thought they did a really good job as a whole.
Teagan:
This markets theme was immaterial Labours and emotions. This was pretty successful however some of the stalls seemed stick to this stronger than others. Labour to me meant that the person would be doing something for them but some were more focused on the emotion theme with more of an experience rather than labour, but it depends how you interpret the theme as to how you rate the success of this in the market. The beginning was very dark and minimal and ended very colourful and engaging. The stalls also switch drastically between stall as you go through, eg a happy dance stall next to a panic stall. This definitely made the audience experience a range of emotions. The layout worked well with the theme because the stalls were spread out and there was clear separation between them, allowing for a relaxing environment to stop being overwhelmed by the different emotions all at once. I assume the exchange was an exchange of emotions because of the theme however it was not clearly defined at the beginning or throughout. The exchange obviously was designed for the specific theme however could have been employed more successfully and communicated better to the audience. The extra element of using the zappar app was an interesting concept and worked really well however was not utilised throughout the market and they missed an opportunity for each stall to use this in some way.
Cody: I thought the overall vibe of the marketplace was really strong. I could tell the layout was thought about and was easy to walk through and if you did have trouble figuring out where to go next the wayfinding group presence was really strong. I thought this marketplace addressed the theme of emotion in a very abstract way. When first entering the market I felt happy and grateful for getting a cookie then entered into the market and straight away my emotion changed I felt confused and disorientated in the dark room. I was then taken through to the next room which was an extreme contrast which I was made to run around dancing to musical chairs which then again changed my emotion. I defiantly felt changed after coming out of most of the stalls so on that note I can say that the overall market was an excellent success that was enjoyable and addressed the theme strongly.

Review of Impossible Things Market
Group Analysis:
As participants in this market we felt the overall atmosphere was created really well. It was very cohesive throughout the whole market and the entrance flowed well. Once entering the market it lost the easy flow it began with and was a bit confusing with lack of direction. The music and lighting worked really well with creating a psychedelic environment that made you feel like you were somewhere else. The stalls, although creative, could have been developed a bit further to engage the participant more. Through more engagement and service it would trigger a stronger response from us as participants. It was sometimes unclear who was running the stall and who was a participant, could have had uniforms?? We thought they utilised their given space really well. We really enjoyed the market and thought it was done really well for the amount of time they had and considering they were the first market.
Teagan
The atmosphere at the market of impossible things was super cool and cohesive! The psychedelic music and lights were really engaging and really did make you feel like you were somewhere else. The beginning was very clear and engaging but as you moved to the bottom of the pit it was a bit confusing and unclear where to go and what to do. Some stalls were a bit crowded and/or had longer lines but other than that was easy enough to go through the marketl. Because it was open you could choose where you wanted to go but some of the stalls didn't explain their stall very well, leaving a lot of people just standing around, which I was doing a lot near the end. My favourite stall was the fortune teller because it was clear what it was, what the audience had to do and was really engaging, even though there was a huge line.
Brydie

Wiktoria Personally, I really enjoyed the Market as a whole. My favurite stalls where the tea at the top, fortune telling ( even though you had to wait for quite a long time to get your fortune told ) and the mirrors. The downside of the market was waiting around to have a chance at experience the stalls, some of them had such a big lines that I hadn’t had a chance to exerience some of them, for example the airplane stall. Custmers should be handled with care (Schmitt, 1999) and I think the market of Impossible Things was lacking the organization of customers that were waiting to experience some of the stalls. On the other side, I really enjoyed the snapchat idea! It was entertaining to watch the collctive story and see how other students and friends were experiencing the Market. The only confusion was taking photos with those signs, I still don’t know why we had to do that. Overall, I enjoyed the atosphere of it, music and screening of the video & photos were adding to that psyhedelic vibe.

Revised art pieces
After deciding we needed a specific topic to talk about, mine being sexuality, I went back to my art pieces to try practice with that one topic, and revise my skill as well. I decided to ditch the pastel because we were now using recycled magazine paper as the base, and instead tried to incorporate a blind continuous line to begin my composition. these were the pieces I came up with, and the last was my final piece for the stall on the day.
