Today is Red Velvet’s 5th year anniversary so I just wanted to talk a little about how much they have impacted me and my life.

In early 2018 I clicked on a video that was comparing English and Korean songs with the same name, thinking not much of it. One of the first ones was “Russian Roulette: Red Velvet vs Rihanna”. That chip tune sound got me interested in the song so I immediately searched it up to listen to it in its entirety. On February 6th of 2018, I downloaded my first k-Pop song onto my phone; and that song was Russian roulette. Not only was it the start of my K-Pop obsession, but it was the first time I had ever really felt interested and captivated in music. Without knowing any of the girls names or positions or abilities, I fell in love with the song. I was going through a rough time with bullying and school, and somehow it kept me calm. The song was that perfect spot in between calming and happiness. From this song, I began to listen to other Red Velvet songs, then other groups songs, and et cetera, et cetera. Though I’ve been obsessed with many groups in this category of K-Pop, Red Velvet always stuck out to me. Their songs were so addicting and joyful, and nothing like I had heard in western music. K-Pop has helped me through some horrible times in my life. Times where I’ve felt at my lowest, to where I felt no person could help, this music was there for me. I know it sounds dumb but I felt at home listening to these 5 girls sing about a “red flavour”, or an “ice cream cake”. There have been times where I felt so alone and like nobody was there for me, and though my family would try to help me through it, the only thing that could bring me up was music. Though we might get made fun of for listening to “annoying Korean” music or being “koreaboos”, K-Pop and it’s community has helped me - and I’m sure lots of other people - through life. It’s no longer just something I like. It’s my life, it’s my support, it’s my passion. I can’t think of many things that I’ve dedicated this large amount of time to other than k-pop.

Red Velvet has been a huge inspiration for me. These 5 girls are proof to how dedication and passion and doing what you love can lead to success. I will always support them, even if they keep making “zimzalabim”s (which to be honest would be great).

5 years is a long ass time. These girls have dedicated basically a quarter of their whole lives to performing and making music which I have such great respect for, not to mention all the years that they had trained in SM.

This is only the start for Red Velvet. 5 years might be long but they have plenty to go. They might keep pumping out hits, or they might disband. But Red Velvet will always be Red Velvet, and I will support every member in any endeavour they choose because of how they’ve supported me.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such an amazing group. Here’s to 5 more fantastic years of Red Velvet!! <3. 감사합니다 레드벨벳! 사랑해요!!

A snippet of the title song in the next comeback was released !! I really like how it sounds because it seems a bit rougher than their typical comebacks and it has a disco vibe to it ! It’s only a mini album though which sucks since the last comeback was a mini album but I’ll still listen to all the songs on it on repeat 🤤🤤
